Hotel Osteria Dell' Orcia is a beautiful boutique hotel in a restored farmhouse in Tuscany. It's…read morethe perfect place to spend the afternoon poolside and to then have a leisurely dinner al fresco. Be sure to use Google maps and/or to call the proprietor for a bit more specific directions as a standard GPS will likely take you into town. The hotel and the staff are all warm and inviting. Upon arrival I was invited to the pool after dropping off my luggage and then asked when I might want to dine. After a bit later departure from the pool I asked if I could push the reservation out to 9 pm and there was no problem at all. Dinner was quite tasty. As it was Friday, fish was featured on the menu and I had the seafood soup (pretty good save a few bones) and the turbot which was exceptional. I don't normally do desert, but the tiramisu was exceptional. My only regret was going with the Rose prosecco vs. a local white wine. Breakfast started at 8 and featured a wonderful spread of fruits, hard boiled eggs, cheeses, meats, breads and pastries. And of course great coffee of my choice. Parking at the property was plentiful either outsid or in the private garage. Overall it was a great retreat in the heart of Tuscany and look forward to returning!!

Located an easy walk down the hill from the center of Bagno Vignoni - take the turn to the right,…read moreoff the road, and cross the pedestrian bridge that crosses the Fiume Orcia - quite a charming approach to this beautiful hotel. Or, if you're walking into town, it's less than 10 minutes across the bridge and back up that hill. Be sure to observe the donkey on the way, originally retained as a kind of tourist attraction, we're told. Hotel Osteria dell' Orcia has spacious rooms, spotlessly clean, and the entire place has a newly renovated look to it, while retaining a traditional style. Gorgeous lawn, with beautiful outdoor dining areas. Didn't have time to get in the pool, but it looked quite inviting. A shout-out to the energetic proprietor, Silvano, who is a kind of hotelier factotum, handling everything with excellent attention to his guests, a sense of humor, a great zest for life and good food. Can't recommend the restaurant more highly. Consider taking Silvio up on a grappa tasting.

There are just certain hotels that you really don't ever want to leave , or (when you have to) you…read morewant to immediately book your next stay, and you almost want to keep it a closely-guarded secret. Podere L'Olmo is one of those places. A small hotel (fewer than 10 rooms) set in the gorgeous open rolling hills of the Val D'orcia, just south of Monticchiello. The place is just idyllic. The hotel has luxury amenities, a heated pool, its own small restaurant, and extremely comfortable, well-appointed rooms. The ground floor suites are just terrific. The hotel grounds are sizable enough to relax in peace and just watch the world go by if you choose. Views all around the valley, with Pienza perched on the hill nearby. But its also the perfect base for exploring Val D'orcia: a quick 10 minutes' drive to Pienza, 5 minutes to Monticchiello, and surrounding territory including hill towns and other attractions such as Bagno Vignoni. Montepulciano, Montalcino and other towns are short drives away. Your hosts treat you like you're family. Maybe the Royal Family. With only a handful of rooms, Giulia, Gabriella and Antony can lavish attention on their guests. And...they do! We had a great deal of fun just passing idle moments with them chatting, about local sights, Italy, and the world in general. Such wonderful people. They're great stewards and ambassadors for the local territory and can help you set up itineraries, reservations and day trips that will make your stay magical. We were there for 5 nights in late April and our stay was indeed magical. It's quite clear they receive many return guests who have fallen in love with L'Olmo. We'll be among those return guests, I promise you. But in the mean time....ssssssh! It's our secret!
