He didn't have his mobile phone on at all and the journey was very swift. He even took the quickest route which they don't usually tend to do these days instead taking you all round the houses. Western are a tried and tested taxi firm that have been around in Derby as long as I can remember…read more They are quite reliable and their drivers all seem to be pleasant enough except of course the one or two that don't speak and just spend the whole time on their mobile phone. They have an automated phone service now though. So if you have rung them before, your number and address will be on the system. This mean you ring and it goes straight through to the automated machine which asks if you are at that address and you push a button then it tells you a car will be straight round. The message is just then sent straight top the driver which I think is pretty cool. If you are on a mobile or if your number isn't recognised then you just get through to the cab operator as usual. I was impressed with them over the Christmas period. Instead of doing double/triple time on Xmas day etc They just added £1 on to all fares which made it a lot cheaper to visit family on Boxing day. They also stayed pretty reliable at Christmas. On New Years eve I asked for a cab at about 1.30am and when they said 20 minutes, it arrived exactly 20 minutes later. I would gladly use Western anytime.

They have really gone down in recent years though and now I only use them as a last resort. For a start none of their drivers ever seem to be able to find my new home. I stood 20 minutes once waiting and when I called they said the driver had driven past twice and not seen me. He was obviously in the wrong place as I had seen no PJs taxi. Another time I rang up and asked to be picked up at the Riverside centre. After waiting half an hour the taxi driver rang me and said he was waitingAt ASDA so it took him another half an hour to get to me from Spondon. We were stood out in the pouring rain. The drivers are all ignorant. They are always on the phone and I fear for my life, even if they had handsfree I wouldn't mind so much. They don't speak to you from the minute you get in the car to the minute you get out. No Hello's or Goodbyes so No tips from me I am afraid.

Do Not Use This Service!!! after the terrible interaction i…read morehad with the phone handler i went to make some sort of complaint/review and was shocked by the fact that no one had commented on their poor communication skills and customer service. i am a new customer and was told to use this service because it was cheaper but today i called them up and the handler was being condescending, rude and just plain talking over me. proceeding to call me 'my dear' whilst being aggressive down the phone honestly made me feel belittled and his tone came across somewhat misogynistic. if you value being spoken to like a human whilst asking for a simple request then do not use this service. i simply asked him if i could book the taxi for 9pm instead of it coming at 8:55 and them having to wait 5 mins due to me not finishing work till the hour but no.... he instead proceeded to shout down the phone at me whilst being patronising and sarcastic. not only this but he was rude to me a couple of nights ago when i tried to book a taxi... a pattern has seemed to form

Abbey do seem to be one of the more reliable taxi companies in Derby these days. On average they…read moreseem to come in about 20 minutes once called. The drivers can sometimes be a bit ignorant. They don't say hello when you get in the car and they don't turn the radio down. I don't like getting in a taxi and listening to some Gansta rap with effing and jeffing all over the place especially when I have children with me. I also object to being in a cab and the driver is talking on his phone. You may see from some of my other taxi company reviews that a lot are guilty of this. Abbey do seem to be one of the few taxi firms that can find my house. Some of them seem to think my street doesn't even exist. The fares are quite reasonable too.
