While not a member of this gym I enjoy coming down here periodically to work out and get away from the PF crowd. Lots of free weights and a lot more free weight space than PF, no nautilus, and best of all a decent vibe to work out. Coming to this gym and being around serious minded people gives me a better workout. The drawbacks is a lot of the machinery is old and kind of worn, funky smell, limited cable machines. This is more of a intermediate gym I think for people who want to do serious lifting and not for the casual once a week person. read more

This is a gym, not an aerobic facility, not a yoga studio. This is a power lifting; serious about getting fit gym. If you dont know how to use free weights, or most machines this might not be the spot for you. I worked out here from out of town, $5 for a one day entry, no bs contracts or trials just five bucks. I'm a graduate student at RPI, so I typically use the gym there, but when the gym is closed for time off or whatever, I hit this place. Everything you could want, bench, squat, deadlift, free weights, machines, ect... Supplement store is fantastic also, I picked up a protein pancake batter to make when I got back from lifting, was great. I only wish this place was closer to Troy, but 20-minute drive isn't too bad. read more

I visited Albany Strength on a recent business trip. A no-thrills hardcore gym with a bunch of squat racks and heavy weights is exactly what I need. The weights and equipment are on the older side, which explains the minus one star, but overall its an oasis in a city with few options. I dont know how the hell this gym is rated higher then ABC but thats ridiculous. The gym is dirty. The free weight benches are way too close due to lack of space. The machines in the main room same issue. Not enough benches. Heavy weights is a plus which and the staff is good. Bathrooms also dirty. The store in front in a big plus. Decent place to work put but lacking heavily in space and machines. Free weights are so dirty they made my hand black. read more

Very serious gym no tv, pool, spa or any of that nonsense just you and the iron. They have some serious weights too. Dumbells up to 180 maybe even 200lbs not that I can even use them at the moment lol but still something to aspire to. They have loads of benches and squat racks which I love. The cost isn't too expensive I believe ,$40 for a month of $90 for three months which isn't bad. Im thinking very hard about joining with them so far I like them alot more than other gyms in the area. read more

Great place to work out and friendly staff, even to a Newbie Buttercup Bunny like me. There are women in there, and everyone is so serious about their workout that they leave you alone. Read the reviews before I went there. Needed a temporary place /cheap place to use before one was being built in my complex. The $5 for the day did not hurt. This is not a commercial gym (no yoga/tv/spa/bikes/frills) as many have already mentioned and really for power lifters in a raw environment. You can do all of your sets for the most part but I would stay at the off peak hours because it does get crowded. My only reservations would be old beat up equipment. There was not much real estate for the benches to be placed as most were allocated to the other strength machines. Had to look for some weights during peak times and for the volume, should have more mid range weights and well spaced benches for free weights. I already had a program in my head so just went straight to work ("get in, work. leave, should be the mentality "). Not for you if you want the amenities ($$) of a commercial gym. People here are generally respectful and just want to get a good workout and leave... read more

This is one of my favorite lifting gyms I've been too. Has all of the equipment needed for any type of strength training. The fact that they have upwards of 8 squat racks makes it really convenient for leg day. Chains, bands, bumper plates, pretty much anything a serious strength training person would need. The supplement shop is absolutely great, also the "house" protein is cost effective, tasty, and gives you a good supply of protein. read more

All products are priced under both bodybuilding.com and GNC. John and his employees are knowledgeable in all of their products and extremely friendly. Very dirty Gym , the equipment has dust all the time and the bench don't get sanitized , the toilet is always nasty , the utility benches keep shaking , the owner decides not to get new ones but to change the seat cover it's just unsafe to use heavy dumbbells on them , i won't recommend it . read more
