This review has been a long time coming. If you're thinking of working here out of desperation -…read morethink twice. This is the worst, absolute worst excuse for a courthouse that I've ever had the displeasure of experiencing in my entire career. From former Court Clerk Mya Gasiorek to Secretary/ Self-Appointed Clerk Manager Rowena McGowan, to Clerk Supervisor Anne Y. to JD Chief Clerk Roy Smith, they are all a bunch of unprofessional, low-level bullies. They will harass you even when you don't work for them, especially Roy Smith, who will send a law graduate a nasty email 6 months after they've have stopped working for them. Mya, who now has her own private practice, actively sabotages all temporary assistant law clerks (TACs) and pressurizes them to buy lunch on a routine basis for the supervisors. Anne takes favors like free plumbing and handywork from any of the staff members. And for some reason, Rowena thinks she has some sort of intellect to lord of over people, but does not have any basic manners or decency. On numerous occasions, TACs have viewed Anne, Rowena, Mya, and Roy actively ridicule elderly prospective hires or express joy when a fellow colleague has been disbarred. Pitiful, absolutely pitful people.

I received Honorable Discharges for both branches and no Criminal Record. I guess, if you don't work in the court system, you must be some type of criminal. If you are acting BIAS and you work in the court system, there has to be something wrong with that.

This review of the Superior Court of Hartford, will be written from the perspective of a Juror…read more It was some months ago when I initially received the (dreadful) letter in the mail that I would be summoned for Jury Duty on June 10th. I had to wait till the day before for confirmation on whether they'd still want me. And sure enough, I had to take the day off, to spend the WHOLE day waiting around at court. But this is what a good citizen is expected to do, isn't it? As long as you come prepared, it's not that bad. Be sure to park in the correct parking lot, with a large blue sign marked "Juror's Parking". It was 8:15 this morning when I was expected to arrive at court. Right at the entrance to the courthouse I had to go through security, similar to the airport security, except that bottled water is allowed. Since all day consists of sitting around and waiting, I brought my lunch with me, a book and my AirPods. They have coffee, tea, and water free of charge. They also have two vending machines, one for drinks and one for snacks. I bought some gummy candies, they were $5.00 for a little bag. There was an older gentleman who gasped when he saw what they charged me, "my golly, that's courthouse robbery!" he exclaimed! And I agree. We were given jurors stickers that we had to display visibly. We were seated in a large auditorium style room, with a small screen. Here they played a few videos explaining the process. Shortly after, they called some names to a courtroom where the judges would start their elimination process for the trail. I waited a bit longer, then I was dismissed with a large group of around 20. Before leaving I had to return my sticker. This wasn't so bad. Please dress respectfully and appropriately for the courthouse. And please, please, please don't answer/ make phone calls on speaker phone, all eyes will be on you.

Hartford Superior Court…read more First time serving as a juror at Hartford Superior Court. Arriving on time which is around 8:15am they are particular about opening the door right on time but there was a crowd already massing near the front entrance. Hartford traffic in the morning was crazy as people are trying to get to their jobs while I am trying to fulfill my civic duties. With a designated lot for jurors, I didn't have to pay for parking and my car is secure with a Marshall. Usually parking is street parking if you have business here. Getting in can be a process as they have the metal detectors right at the doors creating a bottleneck. Travel with what you need and don't bring a bag to make the process of getting through security faster. Luckily my coat had big pockets and I was able to fit my IPad comfortably and writing this review on it though I'll have to upload it later as there is no WiFi in the building. The building is pretty old compared to the office buildings in the heart of downtown. The elevator creaked as it moved up to the fourth floor where you are greeted by staff members to check in and then begins to the process of waiting to be called in the room that looks like an airport terminal. The different clerks do their best to understand our gripes as we wait to be called. You'll either be asked to serve in a Civil or Criminal trail and I had to walk across the skywalk to the other building to be interviewed there. An important cornerstone of our society and a place to serve is Hartford Superior Court.

So... I'm in traffic court more often the most. Obviously not because I'm a bad driver. I'm an…read moreAMAZING AND PERFECT driver. I just statistically will get more tickets than others. I drive at least 50x or maybe even 100x more miles a week that the average person, so it would make sense that I get pulled over more than the average person as well. More time on the road, more exposure to traffic cops, whatever, you get the idea. Tickets are expensive, I get them regularly, so if there's even a chance of getting it lowered, I'll go to court. But enough hedging and justifying myself. On to the review. This court is one of the busier ones being that it covers the entire town of Poughkeepsie. As a result, there are a heck of a lot of people, and they are all special and unique snowflakes. The only court where I get more people watching entertainment value is the Kingston Traffic Court, but that's a review for another day. So a star for interesting patrons! On very busy days, instead of going up to the judge when you're called, answering his questions about your ticket, and then getting a judgement, they have a side room where you meet the special prosecutor and deal with him. He decides what to do with you and then sends his piece of paper up to the judge. That way when you actually get called up to the judge, all the details have already been worked out. You exchange a few ritualistic words, and off you go. The whole thing still takes forever, but it streamlines the process a bit. So a star of that! The officers/guards that check you when you come in and help shepherd people around are a jovial enough group. They're all older men, and they're pretty personable and relaxed. They don't get all brusque like at some other court officers. (It's traffic court for gods sake. Let's everyone relax.) So a star for reasonable officers! And then about the specifics of my most recent visit. I went in with a ticket for letting my inspection lapse. I waited around, talked to the prosecutor, got scolded for not inspecting my car on time, and then he dismissed the ticket completely and I walked out. Didn't have to talk the judge and saved me quite a bit of cash that will be handy during the holidays. So a HUGE star for that! So why not 5 stars? Well it's still traffic court. Until they let keep my phone on, give me a massage chair to sit in, and let me off every time, they can't get 5 stars from me. XD PRO TIPS: *Leave your phone in your car. They don't let you have it with you anymore, even turned off. *Be respectful and wear real clothes. If you're in court, that means that you would benefit from someone taking you seriously and cutting you some slack. Showing up in leggings, (so thin you can see your panties thru them,) is not "dressed up" by the fact that you're wearing a little cable knit sweater. Also, a sweat suit is still a sweat suit even if it's with the cool new sweat pants with the texture and the tapered ankles. The key word is "sweat", not "suit". Do yourself a favor and try to look like someone who gives a s***. Just saying. *Bring a book. You don't get your phone, and you can be sitting there forever. So do yourself a favor and bring some reading materials. Maybe something that makes you look smart and law abiding. It might help you never know. I brought the second Game of Thrones book and got off completely, so maybe they were impressed and intimidated by my dedication to self punishment.

Note- No phones in court, even if turned off…read more Getting in is a little confusing since the lobby is so small. When you walk in it looks like you can just walk to the metal detector and go in, but there is usally a long line to the right that snakes around. Once inside you sit and wait to meet with the prosecutor to hopefully settle. This court will call you in based on the time you arrived, so go early as there are usually lots of people. With a clean record they made an offer of no points, or at least with my step son they did. Once agreed, you wait for the judge to actually take your plea, so there's more waiting. Whole process took us 2.5 hours. Once plea is taken, you go out to the window in the lobby to pay. $275 later (including court costs) it was over. They are pretty well organized, especially given the number of people, but they could be a little more forthcoming with the process so you know what's going on as you are there. But all in all it was an ok experience.
