Inside was pristine and had its own unique look to it. The librarians were helpful and friendly. It's been a goal of mine to visit as many libraries as possible. Since CT is currently doing the Passport to Libraries event, it's been a great incentive to visit as many libraries as possible. There were plenty of parking and it wasn't busy on a weekday. We explored the children's room because at every library, that's where we tend to stay the longest. There were plenty of toys, train set, tool set, books, stuffed animals, and an art table. If you've got kids, I highly recommend it. Every Thursday, they have storytime at 11 am for children ages 0-3. The library is a great resource; there are many programs, events, and random things you can borrow besides books. Overall, an organized library with many perks and we shall be back!

They changed the address from Cedar St. to Garfield St. in 2020 several years after the Cedar Street driveway was blocked by concrete.

It is so easy to request books and you get a week to pick it up. I love the rapid read section as well if I really don't want to wait for a high demand book. The only thing I would suggest is to modernize this library as it definitely is in need of a sprucing up to make it more inviting- kind of hard though with all the renovations going on at the town hall next to it (construction city). The outside of the building is very austere and gray. There is a fair amount of parking available, so watch out for pedestrians. The building itself is huge; there is a map in the lobby and it is helpful. The lobby has so much on its own - a used book sales area, movies, space to sit.... There used to be (if memory serves over several years) a coffee station but now holds maps for planning information. There is, off the lobby, also a whimsical duck statue. The Friends of the library do a book sale once a year. On the last day, it starts as a normal sale, and in the afternoon goes to $10 per bag you fill with books. There is a gap between those two sales, and a place to queue until the bag sale opens. You're not going to pull one over on the Friends and sneak in as the first part of the sale ends. You'll be asked to wait outside.

This library has a very cute children's department, it appeared to have a jungle theme. There were some kids having a good time. The books are well organized, anything I tried to find, it was there. The library is spacious for quiet, independent work at a computer or with your own materials. I noticed they have magazines and periodicals, some of which I thought were no longer being printed. In addition to books, you may also find games, movies, CDs, and even seeds. Yes, seeds to plant your own tomatoes or cucumbers. I have never seen this at another library. We found a small section of books for sale. Kid's books are $1, adult hard cover for $2. The librarians were pleasant during checkout.

There were plenty of parking and the library was spacious and had an open layout. When you first walk in, the children section is to the right. They had a large children section which was nicely decorated with fake trees and a variety of kids decor. They also had so many toys for the kids; from a toy train table, kitchen sets, cash register, dollhouse, and more. They had a wide array of books too. My family and I spent about an hour in there and loved it. It was pretty busy since it's a weekend and cold out; other families had the same plans as us. Overall, it's definitely a nice library. I didn't talk to the librarians so I can't comment on if they're nice or not.

The best of the old…read moreand the new The Plainville Public Library is actually two libraries in one. The original part was built back in 1931 and is a very impressive looking stone building. Of course as the town expanded the need for a larger library quicker became apparent. However it wasn't until 2004 that the new, much larger section was opened. The great part is that instead of just constructing a whole new building or moving to a new location the people in town showed great wisdom and sense of aesthetics in keeping the original part and just adding on a new addition. The results are stunning. The old part still has fireplaces and great woodwork that makes you feel like you are in an old house rather than a public place. Comfy chairs and huge windows gives a sense of relaxation and serenity. A great place to do research or read a novel. Of course the new part is more prosaic and utilitarian. Not big on aesthetics but extremely efficient and useful. Almost 100,000 books and a huge variety of tapes, CD's and computer stations. A place to get things done. Lots of space, the whole area is intelligently designed and very easy to navigate. So at this library you can have a choice. Go to the new part and get something done in a modern environment or just step through doors of the old part, relax and slow down time. Plainville Library truly has the best of both worlds .

I went on Friday at 3:45 and they were closing at 4. I went downstairs to the children's room. There were many books, computers, and toys. The area was spacious and a great spot for the kids. There was a train table, play kitchen, and coloring table. The librarian downstairs was friendly and I checked out a few books. I was able to drop off a few books upstairs the front desk. If you're driving by on route 44 in Avon, CT, you might see this giant rocking chair. It's located…read morenear the traffic light and one of the entrances to the Old Avon Village. It's a 9-foot high rocking chair that used to be located at a furniture store in West Hartford. As of the 1960s, it's moved to its current location in Avon. I think it's random but unique; it's definitely an Avon landmark. I heard that they decorate it for the holidays. If you're in the plaza, go up close and admire this old random gem.

What ????…read more Yes, there really is a giant 9' tall rocking chair standing guardian at one of the entrances to Old Avon Village The big rocking chair started it's life as a roof ornament on the old Spinning Jenny furniture store in West Hartford. When the store owners moved the business to Avon, they took along their 9' tall rocker and it quickly became a landmark as the symbol for Old Avon Village. It's been repaired and repainted a few times over the year, and on one windy day it was blown off its foundation and ended up in the street. It is very noticeable from the road. Many a wedding photo has been taken in front of the Giant Rocker.

It's located down the street at the former Webster Bank building. There's amenities at the new library which include the patio on the rooftop, drive-up pick-up window for books, a massive collection of board games for people to borrow with their own library cards, and atrium. I love this library. I miss the old library at the Mary Cheney building up the street but I think it looks beautiful in and out and I appreciate how there is enough room for everything and some more good stuff under one roof. The patio area outside is a welcome addition to the new library. People can read and relax outside with a chair to sit on during a beautiful day. There's a lot of chairs in the library plus elevators and bathrooms in a handicapped accessible library. You should stop by and check it out if you're around the area. What a wonderful institution for the Manchester community!

This is a review for the board game section of the library sporting so many games I've lost count…read more The borad game section has a lot of different types of games with varying age, group size and time frame. Donated from different walks of life the library does well to ensure eveything is there for your fun time ahead. You can borrow the games up to 3 weeks and they even added in renewals which is a nice feature. The only thing is that the games have to be returned while the library is open and sadly here is the only place that carry an extensive selection but hope that others hop on. Do you part and support the local library and try a free new game before purchasing or having a great time. With so many games for so many different type of people and groups drop by and see what they have.
