Results! Results! Results! If I can give this place 10 stars, I would! Joseph's expertise proves to be a leading one in the industry and his practice is covered by insurance, too! Talk about a holistic approach -- I have results that I never thought I would. Joseph genuinely cares about his patients and takes his time with each one to develop a plan that works for every patient. I used to be scared to death of needles and he managed to worked around that. They are also open until 7 PM some days, which is awesome. The office staff is friendly and responsive with every inquiry. I highly recommend this place to everybody who has any aches, pains, fatigue, hormonal acne and other bodily dysfunctions. read more

Hormonal Acne: For the last 5 years I've been dealing with pretty much constant normal acne breakouts. I've had acne throughout my 20s but when I moved to New York at 25 - things got much worse. I had never been on birth control and was trying to avoid it- but out of desperation 1.5 years ago I started the pill. It took sometime to see any effects (about 4 months) and my skin did improve slightly - but not significantly. I was still have regular breakouts and really unhappy with my skin. In early January 2018 - I went back to the Derm and he suggested a permanent oral antibiotic - in addition to the pill. In fact I would have to stay on the pill because in the event I did get pregnant the medication could affect the baby. After much thought, I chose not to do the medication - but was back at a loss of what to do about the acne. It was during this time that I randomly think about acupuncture. I did research and found Dr Alban. He has been so so wonderful. I felt for the first time that a doctor was treating my whole body. I am able to happily report that my skin is now clear. I have been going once a week since January. He started me immediately on herbs that I take twice a day. I also do cupping. Highly recommend the herbs - it has been key to my skin clearing up I believe. My skin within about 6 weeks started to clear up significantly. Within 5 months - my skin was basically at a 9.5/10 - the occasional white head but NOTHING compared to how it had been before. I have since gone off birth control and my skin has maintained! I'm now happily off birth control with the clearest skin I've had in 10 years. Dr Alban and his office staff have been superb. I go weekly and it's alway a very pleasant experience. They are accommodating to my work schedule and kind and welcoming when I come in. In addition to acne - when I sprained my ankle he helped treat that along with some shoulder pain I've experienced. I'm a believer - if you are considering acupuncture- please do it. It's worth it and in my experience - it works. I highly recommend Dr Alban! It's been a life changing experience for me going to him. read more

Dr. Joe is the bomb! I was diagnosed with endometriosis about a year ago and finding no relief from birth control & lifestyle changes, I decided to try acupuncture. I have been seeing Dr.Joe for about 3 months to treat my daily pain & have made a lot of progress since. My pain has been reduced from 5 or so days a week to 1-2 (if even that). There's still some way to go but I have been feeling so much better. Dr. Joe is incredibly compassionate and attentive. He will sit you down before each session and talk through how you've been feeling or any additional concerns which is refreshing considering many doctors try to rush you in and rush you out. The office staff are very nice as well. I highly recommend coming here. read more

Joe is very knowledgeable, highly skilled, and always professional. Moreover, he is a caring, genuine person who provides excellent care through acupuncture and herbs. The atmosphere at the clinic is very comfortable and relaxing. Acupuncture treatments have helped me with chronic back pain, as well as anxiety/ stress management. I have been treated many times by Joe, and I have rarely experienced any pain or discomfort. In fact, the treatments are incredibly relaxing and blissful! If you are afraid of needles, Joe can work with you. Just talk to him about it. Joe once treated a friend of mine who had wrist pain but happened to be afraid of needles. Within minutes of the needle application, my friend was completely relaxed and sleeping! His wrist felt better afterwards too. read more

Joe is a miracle worker! I had developed absolutely horrific eczema on half of my body due to gut issues and because of those issues I really wanted to avoid steroids. I went to so many dermatologists and allergists who swore that steroids were the literal only option until I had a more holistic dermatologist recommend Joe. He made my eczema disappear completely in about 6 months with acupuncture and Chinese herbs! The herbs are disgusting and not cheap but totally worth it. Plus Joe helps make sure to get your insurance to cover acupuncture if at all possible and also offers packages to save cost. Also he really is so knowledgeable about so many different facets of health, is the nicest human and always pleasant to chat with, and is extremely responsive both in person and over email to answer any questions at all. Can't recommend Joe enough!!! read more

This was the first time I ever had acupuncture in my entire life. I have a lot of past injuries, but recent pain in my right lower back all the way down to my lower right knee was serious pain. I had problems getting out of bed and walking most of the time. It went into a month a half with no improvement. Painkillers is not an option in my world; I've watched some of my friends ruin their lives because of opiate addiction. I wanted a natural remedy for my pain; someone recommended Joseph Alban to me. Bettina (his assistant at the time) made making the appointment with Joseph very easy. The office was a clean and calm environment. I was a little sketched out on the idea of looking like the guy from the movie Hellraiser to resolve my pain issues; however my worries were completely unfounded. Joseph was very professional in explaining the procedure, which put my mind at ease. Those needles didn't hurt at all. I had instant relief once Joseph completed the treatment. There was a little soreness a couple days after but it went away quickly. Thank you Joseph Alban! read more

I went to Joe when my skin suddenly erupted in acne at age 25. I knew virtually nothing about acupuncture, but after spending my teenage years going religiously to dermatologists and having only mild success, I figured I should try something different. I was a little wary the first time, but Joe was patient with my skepticism and explained the process. He prescribed herbal tea that tasted awful, but was very effective! I have been going in for acupuncture twice each month for several months. I have seen a substantial change; my skin is virtually clear now. And there were no side effects like those that came with prescriptions from the dermatologist. Joe is extremely approachable, caring, listens thoughtfully to any concerns or issues you have, and is interesting to chat with while your needles are inserted/removed. Bettina, the receptionist, is wonderful. She makes any time spent in the waiting room very enjoyable. All around, a lovely experience with great results! read more

I've been here quite a few times. It's very clean and the treatment room was private. The treatment was tailored to my lifestyle, so I had instant herbs for travel, and a prescription for raw herbs to prepare at home in a clay pot. The raw herbs were a bit of work, as I had to get the prescription filled in Chinatown and cook them myself, and they taste absolutely awful, but the results were outstanding. I'm not going to say I enjoy acupuncture because I don't, but Joe is one of the less pain-inducing ones I have visited. I deduct the one star because I don't love the high energy midtown office feel of the place when I am lying on the bed with my needles in. On the other hand it is very easy to reach, so it's a matter of taste. read more

This is probably my thousandth time saying it, but acupuncture with Joe is absolutely wonderful. I have had treatments since last summer and I have seen a tremendous decrease in anxiety, neck and back pain. I have seen chiropractors and physical therapists but I have not had the results that I see after acupuncture visits with Joe. The office is very clean, the staff is very friendly and they email appointment reminders which is very helpful. I leave my appointments refreshed and ready to take on another stressful week of work/school. Joe is very attentive and takes into consideration your needs at every appointment. It is by no means painful and the setting is very relaxing. Since I recommend Joe to all of my friends and family, it makes sense to also give him two thumbs up on yelp read more

In 2015, my back muscles started spasming from sitting too often at work. After 1.5 years of physical therapy and an epidural in my back, I decided to try acupuncture as a last resort. I ended up going to Joe for my first acupuncture session. Within a few sessions, my muscles began to relax and I felt relief. I have been going to Joe for acupuncture & cupping for 6 years and will continue to recommend him. In addition to my back pain, I've come in with numerous injuries and each time I leave feeling better, either that day or after a few sessions. Highly recommend Alban Acupuncture for both acupuncture & cupping!! read more

About 6 months ago I went to Joseph Alban when my acne flared up and I couldn't find another solution. In a nutshell, I'm so glad I tried acupuncture, cupping and herbs for my skin with Alban Acupuncture, I highly recommend Joseph. I've had acne for over 20 years. I go to a dermatologist regularly, have been on EVERY medication both topical and oral (yes, including Accutane - unfortunately it didn't work although was a good dose of torture), and although my skin is far from flawless, I've been able to manage it after finding the right prescription. It's been under control for several years and for seemingly no reason I broke out terribly. For months I couldn't figure out what was going on as beyond the random breakouts my face became pretty bad with cystic acne, black and white heads - very painful and quite unsightly. My dermatologist said I had 1 option which was to switch to Accutane again. It's been several years since I last tried it, but it was a terrible experience. I'd never tried acupuncture for acne and came across Alban Acupuncture. I did about a total of about 3 - 4 months of acupuncture, cupping and Chinese herbs which he changed throughout the program. The treatment was designed for my skin and herbs altered based on the progress. Joseph is very knowledgeable, patient, clear, and happy to answer questions. Deirdre who works in the office is wonderful. The only con is that it's not cheap and my insurance doesn't cover it, but knowing that Joseph's plan was not for me to have ongoing acupuncture as a solution and certainly after seeing the results, it was 100% worth the investment. My skin cleared up to the best it's ever been, not perfect, but pretty close. I haven't been in about 3 months and it has remained in good shape. If you have acne, haven't found a great solution, have the patience and willingness to invest in your skin, make an appointment. read more

Joe is incredible. I suffered from acne due to hormonal imbalance and stress for a few years, and Now my skin is clear thanks to Joe! I started taking the herbs he prescribed and then moved on to herbal pills. His needles made me relax to the fullest, so I always got a good rest going to his office:) if you have stubborn acne, go see Joe! read more

I can honestly not rave about him enough- I have already told my sister and best friend to book him as well!! He really knows what he is doing and you are in great hands!!! read more

I just finished a course of Chinese herbal medicine treatment with Joe for a case of pompholyx (aka dyshidrotic eczema). If you've never heard of this agonizingly itchy skin condition, consider yourself lucky. I can't count the hours of sleep I lost over the last year trying and failing not to scratch. Until visiting Joe's clinic, I had never treated any medical condition with anything other than standard western medicine. When the eczema first appeared, I visited my regular dermatologist several times and received one steroid cream after another, but nothing helped to alleviate the itching or stem the spread of the rash. Everything I read in peer reviewed medical journals seemed to suggest that dermatologists don't really know what causes this condition or how to cure it. I decided to try Chinese medicine after reading a few articles online that suggested it might help. Joe prescribed a complex combination of herbs to be boiled for some of the worst tasting tea I have ever had, but over the course of about 2 months, it worked. He tweaked the formula a few times in response to how my skin was healing. After almost a year of terrible itching, the eczema is gone and every terrible-tasting ounce of tea I drank was worth it. Thank you Joe! read more

I found Joe through Yelp and didn't have to think twice once I saw the positive reviews and his warmth coming out of his eyes. Once I met Joe, i truly felt as if I have finally found my angel who can help me with chronic sinusitis and headaches. I immediately gave my 100% trust and felt comfortable and confident about his ability to help me fight the problem i have been struggling with for so long. It was my first experience with acupuncture since all other methods have failled, Yet I thought I will give it a try. Joe quickly proved that he is truly professional, passionate in his work, devoted, kind, and attentive person. He would carefully listen to my problems and also would thoroughly answer my questions. As a future physician myself, I would have wished more doctors would have such a beautiful bedside manner, attentiveness, and sensitivity to ones dilemmas. I sincerely recommend Joe absolutely to everyone! Also those out of town shouldn't hesitate, as I have also traveled from Philadelphia every week for about 3 months just to see Joe! The trip was worth it every single time. The results of being headache free were immediate, which made me even more confident about Joe being very experienced in this subject and that would made me want to come back. In addition, I felt very relaxed and balanced every time I left the office. It has been a month since I don't travel anymore because it looks as if my headache has left me for good :) However, I will try to be devoted and go see Joe once a month just to keep the good effect. It is absolutely amazing feel to be free off pain and not to have clouded mind. I cannot thank Joe enough for how much he has improved the quality of my life. Thank you Joe! I also couldn't forget about Bettina who is Joe's assistant. Every time I would come and wait (short minutes) for my appointment, we would chat just about everything and anything, which would make me feel very welcomed and at home. I think Joe and Bettina make a perfect team and even though the office is located in the middle of rather busy Manhattan, the place is filled with positive, grounding, and relaxing energy. I highly recommend as there won't be any regrets! read more

I could not have been more pleased about the services I received here! Joe is super intelligent and amazing! He knows exactly what he's doing and I can tell that he loves it too! The space has the most zen I've ever experienced in NYC with gorgeous, peaceful colors and warm, comfortable tables. After months of dealing with horrible chronic pain and various other symptoms, visiting specialists almost every week, multiple tests and procedures, and still no answers or relief, I started seeing Dr. Alban. Within just a few weeks, I saw improvement; and now after a few months I am in a totally different place health-wise thanks to his work. Dr. Alban is so welcoming, listens intently to your concerns, and helps you create a plan that will work for you. It is a beautiful, pleasant office and the entire staff is wonderful. I cannot even express how much it has helped. Dr. Alban. is truly as good as acupuncturists get! read more

Very solid guy! Very good acupuncturist. Works well within the confines of Western medicine while adjudicating it with Chinese herbalism and acupuncture, which is what I needed. I asked for a recommendation on a very risky Chinese herb and he explained the right way to take the herb and how it should be medically monitored. Accurate, smart, compassionate. Highly recommended. read more

I recommend Dr. Alban to everyone I know. He's the BEST. A total a gem - super knowledgeable, attentive, kind, and caring. I'm so indebted to the two good friends of mine who recommended him to me - and they're super picky. I was suffering from severe, nearly debilitating symptoms of uterine fibroids, and within a few months, they were practically a non-issue. It was miraculous. Dr. Alban has also helped me a lot with with my chronic stress and anxiety. His office is super clean and lovely with private rooms, soothing music, and a super helpful office administrator. I've heard about friends' experiences with places where you're in one room just separated by hanging sheets, and everyone can hear everything. I was afraid of that - but this is totally different. Big thumbs up!! read more

I have absolutely NOTHING bad to say about Joe or his practice. I love them. I originally came to him for extreme tightness in my calf/thigh muscles and IT band that started almost a year earlier when I was running every day. I had never had acupuncture before, but I really didn't know what to do because even with rest, my legs still hurt to a somewhat debilitating degree. I had almost resigned myself to just being uncomfortable, but fortunately I decided instead to visit Joe. The office is pleasant and relaxing, with a cozy, but clean and professional vibe. Joe has an excellent bedside manner and is a genuine interested - and interesting - person. He is knowledgable about acupuncture and explains everything to you. After one session, I felt markedly better and I have continued to improve over the last several months that I have been seeing Joe. As far as any concern about the needles, you barely feel them at all. Much of the time in the office is spent relaxing, in my case with my eyes closed, and I really don't feel them at all past the second in which they are placed. Joe also gave me some aftercare advice, including stretches and the use of a foam roller, both of which have really helped to speed my recovery along. Although I did not originally come to Joe for my rosacea, Joe did prescribe an herbal treatment for this as well, with truly impressive results. Even my dermatologist was impressed! No review of Alban Acupuncture would be complete, however, without mentioning Bettina, Joe's receptionist. She is a national treasure. She is 100% on top of everything as far as running the office, and is also a charismatic, if deadpan, presence. My daughter (also a patient) and I have whiled away more hours chatting with Bettina about a wide variety of subjects - she is the sort of person that would be very difficult for anyone to dislike and displays true wit. As the face of the practice, I don't think Joe could have made a better choice! read more

I found Joe on Yelp, checked his website which had extensive information on eczema, from which I suffer. I can't praise him enough, Joe spends a tremendous amount of time at each appointment to review my condition, provide additional information and suggestions... I have never experienced this kind of attention in NYC. Joe has an extremely gentle and relaxed nature, which is always helpful and calming. Joe has also created different types of creams, oils for use. The oil I use for my eczema has been a life changer. Joe also formulates my Chinese herbal (teas) and while they are not so 'tasty' I know they have aided in my wellness. The office is extremely well managed, clean and comfortable. I have had tremendous success with my eczema and am extremely grateful that I found him... Again can't recommend him enough. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Alban for around 5 years now and for me he truly has been a lifesaver. I highly recommend Alban Acupuncture for anyone who is suffering from a chronic pain condition. I was suffering from pelvic pain and had been to see two physicians, two urologists, two physical therapists and another acupuncturist before I went to see Joe. Joe's treatment has been far more successful than anything else I've tried. He spent two hours with me on my first visit talking to me about my symptoms (no other health professional had ever spent more than a few minutes diagnosing my condition). His attention to detail and ability to listen have really paid off over the course of the treatment. After two months I'm nearly pain-free and continue to show improvement. Joe is extremely knowledgeable about Western medicine as well, and has given me excellent advice on which other treatments I should consider. My quality of life has improved significantly since I began treatment. read more
