I'm a Hawaiian Airlines (HAL) girl so this was my first experience flying Alaska Air (AS) into Palm Springs and out. HAL and AS are still doing their best to merge flights, airport gates, luggage issues, check-in and all those issues that may have been different before the merger. Let's just start by saying you must be PATIENT, with no expectations of how it "used to be." Tried to use my miles for the round trip flight from Oahu to PS and the app said no flights available. When I switched to dollars then all the flights popped up. Had to catch HAL from Oahu and transfer to AS in Seattle. The gates are NOT CLOSE TOGETHER YET (this is June 2025) so be prepared to find the tram subway to take you to an entirely different terminal. I had to take two to get there. Luckily I made my connecting flight on time, but if they had changed it I would have been in deep kim-chi. Then from AS gate to fly to Palm Springs - we boarded a tiny aircraft maybe 75 seats was a full load. The upper cabinets are smaller than HAL so if your carryon is slightly larger than make sure it can maneuver itself into the space. I saw hard cases being scratched while being pulled out. The seats are not as comfy as HAL- even the extra comfort seats. And they do NOT offer free wi-fi like HAL. Since it was a short flight we had a quick beverage service- only apple juice or water (no coffee or tea) offered and a snack pack of pretzels which flight attendant kept telling each row it is spicy so be careful. No tv screens in front of you either, so not sure if this is only because it's a smaller plane for the shorter flights. No complimentary magazine like HAL has either. Flight attendants were very professional and knew their stuff. Pilots communicated well and perfect take off and landing. It was a good first experience but hoping they get their gates closer together soon. I would suggest checking online the airport map you're heading to for a recon how far away it could be for your connecting flights. read more

Alaska rescheduled my flights by more than four hours. We were told as it was their doing they would issue full refunds. As it turned out if you booked thru a site like Orbitz Alaska's policy is to charge a $250 cancellation fee fee. Typical BS that shows they really don't care and are willing to give the middle finger to customers. read more

Out of the blue asked to reduce the size of my suitcase that was within the size limitations for a carry on as is. Ended up destroying my suitcase so I could get on the plane. The attendant was clearly a trainee and had no idea what she was doing. Very disappointing experience. read more

Alaska airlines did good. We had a flight delayed 13 hours due to not one but two engine/computer parts that had to be flown in to get our plane to start up. Everyone that worked for Alaska were very apologetic and understanding. We did rebook for the following day then changed our mind and decided to wait it out. I appreciated the honesty in dealing with the agents who said there was an 80% chance the flight would be a go. They were correct(though i totally would not hold it against them as these things are unpredictable!) As we 11 passenger hold outs from our 6 am flight were on our way in the sky all of the flight crew and captain repeatedly apologized. The following day we received an email with flight credit as an apology from Alaska air. Well done! I will definitely fly Alaska in the future. They really made the best of a crazy situation. Mechanical things happen-but they handled it with class. Nicest group of people all the way from the check in clerk to baggage handler. read more

The best way to get to Palm Springs from Seattle in my opinion. Ontario is cheaper, but an hour away. Alaska's service is outstanding, and in my experience flights are clean and on time. I read the reviews here where the plane was too hot, too cold, too late, too early. I've only had the Goldocks treatment from Alaska and my most recent trip was the same - just right. I got an upgrade to first class, so that made my day, and a nice breakfast on my 6:30 am flight. Our flight attendant Tony was terrific. Very helpful and attentive, everything he said was can do. At one point I thought he's trying too hard, but can I really fault him for that? He's doing everything he can to create a good experience for his passengers. The flight was comfortable and enjoyable, and Tony took good care of us. I've taken this flight a dozen times or so over the years, and it's always been good. So no, I have no complaints. One of the true tests of good customer service is what happens when something goes wrong. Last month, two flights were scheduled to depart within 10 minutes of each other. However, only one crew arrived. The gate agents were open and honest: The flight with the most people making connections got the crew. Thus, my flight was delayed waiting for a crew to be assembled and arrive at the airport. We were all emailed a $10 food coupon. That was a nice gesture. Even so, my appreciation goes to the gate agents who kept us informed. While no one likes a delayed flight, it's much easier to manage when you get up-to-date information on an on-going basis. That's real excellence of customer service. I also flew on Alaska Airlines just last week. That flight ran like clockwork. Flight AS317 Palm Springs to San Francisco Aircraft: B737-400 March 29, 2014 Flight was scheduled for 5:10PM but due to weather in Seattle and San Francisco, the incoming aircraft was delayed. Both airport monitor and Alaska Airlines website showed a modified 5:48PM departure. We arrived at gate 10 and settled down. The flight looked full consider pretty much all the seats at the gate were taken. The inbound aircraft finally arrived at 5:35PM so there was no way they can board everyone and be on the way at 5:48PM. Departure was now at 6:10PM. I will never give an airline a poor rating if a flight is delayed due to weather. So no grudge. But the way Alaska Airlines handles this flight, AS317 on March 29, left a lot to be desired. Before the inbound passengers disembarked, the ground agent started making announcement to "encourage" us to gate-check our hand-carry items because the flight is full and overhead space would be tight. That's somewhat true. But they really wanted to turn around the aircraft. Boarding was chaotic. After the first class people and all the elite gold silver blue green and yada yada boarded, they welcomed "those who would not need overhead space" to board. Like half the plane herded up to the boarding line. By the time we boarded, much of the overhead space was of course taken. So whatever happened to people who didn't need the overhead space? It's utterly ridiculous and stupid. Beverage service also left a lot to be desired. because of the short duration of the flight, I'm quoting their words, they could only serve complimentary water and orange juice. No sodas. No tea or coffee. WTF? The orange juice was a pre-packed affair called "SUNCUP." It was half thawed with ice sludge. Gross and disgusting. One hour and twenty minutes and they cannot run a regular beverage service. Are they not aware that in Asia they serve a full meal on a flight with the same duration? How does US carrier get this low in service? No wonder foreign carriers have gamed up on and get the better of them. US carriers like Alaska is a low-cost carrier at best. Plane is an antiquated 737-400 with good upkeep. Seats are comfy with regular pitch of about 32". Flight attendants are very friendly and that enlivens the flight experience. The only reason I'm still flying AS is that it's the only carrier that flies to Palm Springs year-round with a jetliner and that I earn Asia Mile with Cathay Pacific. read more

I always wanted to fly Alaska airlines had heard good things about them. I was really disappointed. I was on flight 806 X from Maui to San Diego. I was completely ignored when it came to getting any kind of beverage. Later in the flight I asked for some water because I needed to take some medication. I got a dirty look from the stewardess and she brought me back some water 1/4 cup and handed it to me and gave me another dirty look. I must've reminded her of somebody she didn't like. Guess what. It was my favorite airlines in 2009. I flew exclusively on it... about 20 round-trips on the west coast in 2009. But the jet fuel stopped burning in Alaska for me in 2010... My first Alaska flight in 2010 was a big bust... a turning point.. a wake up call... It took at least 10 screws at US Worst before I jumped off the worst planes so to speak. It took one incidence at Alaska Air to wipe clean all the good deeds in 2009. Hey... it's all business. We are just suckers. All airlines have their cut back on maintenance and services. So the flight from PSP to SMF was canceled due to door jammed. There were screaming and argument at the check-in counter to handle the screwed customers. I was handled by a supervisor. After some insistence, he finally arranged me to fly Southwest Worst departing in Ontario, an hour and a half away. They provided a big bus to herd at least 20 passengers there. And I was 8 hours late when I got to Sacramento. I strongly pissed off starting when I inquired very politely what I was entitled to due to canceled flight. I didn't have time to look up online at the time (there's no compensation for canceled flight by the way for whatever reasons... that's why it's so easy for the airlines to cancel flight... to save money. Just business I guess). The supervisor was asking what I want. No explanation provided. I wanted $200 flight voucher. NO. I wanted a refund. NO. I wanted compensation. NO. By the way, I had already got a meal voucher of $8 by then. As he got louder and louder so the rest of the passengers could hear him clearly, I automatically responded with more requests. I won't get bullied this way... when I was the victim. As it turned out, the supervisor satisfied my inquiry finally when I asked what I was entitled to again. He finally disclosed that all I got was the meal voucher. After the yelling match, clearly I was pissed. I don't play CAT AND MOUSE game. Thought I got double-screwed only... not counting missing apology from any agents... but wait.... I almost missed the big bus (and it's not yellow by the way)... I was lucky to spot the screwed passengers hopping on... there was no announcement overhead as the agent had promised. We might have left some unfortunate souls behind because there's no head count or agent to assist the driver... blessed the poor soul of the triple screw. Many months later, I had a flight delay and missed connection with United. I've got $15 meal voucher simply by asking... no hassles. I've got good service and apology. So travelers, watched out which business you'd like to support... especially the histrionic and condescending ones. Have a good flight. You deserve the good, the bad and the ugly ultimately. In 2021 I booked three ski trips through Alaska, from Palm Springs airport to Portland and Seattle. My first trip was on Christmas 2021. I checked in and gave the Alaska attendant my luggage, including all of my ski gear. The luggage and ski gear never arrived in Seattle. I made several inquiries at the airport regarding my ski gear and luggage, each time I got a different answer from a different Alaska associate. The last person I spoke to guaranteed that the luggage and ski gear would be on the next flight from Palm Springs and delivered later that afternoon. It's been almost 2 months and I still don't have my luggage and ski gear. Alaska Airlines has no idea where it is. Furthermore, I can't get anyone from Alaska to cooperate. I haven't been compensated for my lost items. The value of my ski gear and personal items are probably several thousand dollars, however, I also purchased airfare through Alaska for the ski trips. And Alaska refuses to reimburse me for those airfare even though they are the cause of me not going. Alaska airlines has really gone downhill. Do not fly Alaska. read more

Terrible airline. Had an emergency appendix surgery on vacation. We tried to get back home 5 days later. Changed our reservation, they doubled the price. Tried to get seating so I'd be more comfortable, they tripled the price, such crooks. I'd have to sit apart from my spouse who was taking care of me. Also it was a day later then we needed costing us more. They were uncooperative, unfriendly, and uncaring on the phone. When we had enough of them ripping us off when we were at our lowest we canceled our flight. They charged us $199 ea for cancelling and $99 for something else. We just made the reservation within 30 minutes. WTF! Alaska Airline, you are a bunch of crooks and I'm going to do everything I can to get this out in the public so they will NOT choose your seedy, dishonest airline. My new favorite airline. Great customer service. Lots of room in coach. Best example of the wonderful service: My luggage weighed 70+ lbs when I checked in after an Alaskan cruise. It was $100 for the overage, but instead the counter agent suggested I remove 20 lbs and put it in a box. The second checked bag is only $40. So, she saved me $60. Plus she helped me unpack and repack to get the box--which she provided--to the 20 lbs needed. Amazing. Most airlines today won't help you with anything...especially not to save money. I'm very pleased. Joined their frequent flyer program and got a credit card. I'm impressed. read more

Got to Palm Springs airport early had a 5:30 flight to Seattle. Tried to get on a 1:45 flight and was denied. Agent tried speaking to supervisor. Even though they had extra seats. Waked up early in Portland for 7:30 am flight to PSP: cancelled, next flight at 4:00 pm. Have had many similar experiences between PSP and Portland or Seattle. Not good. Agent said flight was cancelled due to "mechanical" .....Frankly, I do not believe this. It was most likely cancelled due to low bookings. Alaska is generally silent on the reason for cancellations except for weather. I would suggest more transparency. read more

I was informed late today, that my flight from PSP to PDX is now leaving tomorrow at 1:50 instead of 11:15...ALASKA, why are you always changing these flights? Calling the 800 number needing to make a last minute, very costly change to our reservation. We were connected with David in Phoenix...I think that was his name....has a slight Canadian accent. In any event he was so understanding of the dilemma we faced. Really wanting to see my 90 year old mother for a family reunion and work intervened. Awful situation requiring a last minute change. The help David offer was truly remarkable in an industry that can be " rule oriented" at times. I'm so sorry to report that this airline now totally sucks. I've been a loyal customer for many years and have recently had the WORST experience ever. Long story short, I bought 8 tickets to get my son and mother in law down and back to Palm Springs. I will do everything in my power to NEVER fly this airline again. Such a long story but complete fail when it comes to customer service. Ugh. Such a bummer. Be very careful when you see an email with a "deal". I made three reservations last year to fly there and back to Palm Springs from Portland in January. As the trip got closer I called to check on the reservations as I hadn't received any confirmation. They actually had us all booked on separate flights. I called a few days before because I hadn't received any info about our flights and they politely rebooked us all together with no charge. They obviously did that because it was their mistake. I problem right?! When I went to the airport we were there a day later than I had asked to be rebooked. So I had to buy three new tickets. And they said they had actually canceled my flights home. So then I had to buy new tickets home. At the very least I would have thought they'd fly us home. They should have reimbursed me and flown us home!!!!!!!. So so so so disappointed. Not to mention I've now spent THOUSANDS of dollars and hours on the phone. Terrible customer service. Two stars only to save the one star rating for UA. Given a choice, why would anyone select Alaska over Virgin from SFO-PSP? They only announce delays an hour before departure when you have already arrived at the airport. Virgin dents texts HOURS before so you can relax at home! And both Virgin and UA always manage to do full beverage service but EVERY Alaska SFO-PSP Flight they announce high winds and turbulence limits service to water. Safety or lazy flight attendants? Hard to say it is safety when it appears to be every flight. read more

Had a trip from hell on Alaska. I am a senior and my connection in Seattle should have given me 3 hours to connect. As it turned out we were 1 1/2 hours late leaving Canada.....then sat on the ground 20 mins. I had 25 minutes to get through customs and to connecting flight. When I did get to the connecting gate, they had changed the gate!! Very very stressful for an 80 year old with 2 hip replacements. read more

On our flight from Palm Springs to Seattle the gate agent was sort of rude (what is up with all of these agents? Third one in one day for me I've had attitudes from when I was just asking basic questions) but at least she seated our whole family together which was awesome. So kudos to her. The reason for a couple stars lost was the flight attendants. While they were nice they weren't attentive. Lots of gossiping with each other and not taking trash from people with outstretched arms of cups and stuff just waiting for them to finish their conversations (with each other). The thing that shocked me the most was that they didn't take their seats until we were partly IN THE AIR! They were chatting and chatting away with some people in around row 15 until we took off. They went running to the back almost falling while we were going off the ground. Although it was almost funny to watch I'm pretty sure they were breaking a ton of safety rules. read more

After making a reservation to fly to visit a sick friend we were informed that our friend had died. I called Alaska Airlines to see if they could help us, as the trip was now not needed. I talked to Brie (I hope I spelled that correctly) and Emily and explained the circumstances. Both ladies worked together and helped us more than we could imagined!!
