Northern Roots Lawn Care

Northern Roots Lawn Care

I hired Northern Roots Lawn Care to aerate my lawn and foot the full package of 5 weed killer and…read morefertilizer treatments for my crab grass and creeping Charlie problem. We got 3 treatments and our weeds are not any better, in fact they are way worse. We asked for another treatment after the 2nd treatment as it wasn't working but they never showed up for that one. We quit after the scheduled 3rd treatment as the lawn looked so bad. Would never recommend this company, wasted our money.

I should have stuck with the kids. They killed my lawn by never showing up to collect leaves as promised - I will attempt to attach a picture. NOTE: all the other lawns in the picture look great, none of these neighbors hired them. After they promised to do I waited and waited and waited. Here are some direct quote excuses from them: "We need consecutive days of dry weather to get the ground in shape to handle our equipment and for the leaves to not clog up our bagging systems....do not call or email and ask about when we will get to you." - Skoog the owner to all customers After I told them that in my younger years, I would just go slower or use rakes when wet leaves clogged the mower I was told "at a $65/hr labor rate. I don't think most people want to pay $1,200 for a cleanup" - Brian the sales guy Funny how everyone in my neighborhood got their leaves done themselves or with others while this best equipped company just provided excuses. My neighbor kept asking me to do it for me while I traveled but he is a severely arthritic fellow grandpa so I did not really want him to do. I finally relented - too late for the lawn - he did it in a few hours with just a lawn tractor. I am still scratching my head as to why all the BS instead of finding ways to get the work done. They killed my lawn and now refuse to remedy this - or even apologize. I was only told "sorry things did not work out"-Skoog the owner They did a large expensive landscaping project in spring, which turned out looking good but proved way too difficult. * They insisted I sign contracts on their site - an amateur hour site I couldn't even log into for months. They will want a credit card pre-registered so they can charge whatever they want. * The sales guy Brian would never write down the plan, just a materials list. Good thing I was there to redirect when the workers made up their own plans, the workers complained this a problem with Brian on all projects. * Upon completion the foreman told me the owner wanted me to pay extra because Brian made some kind of mistake.... in the fixed bid. * Brian's tree expert also recommended a tree that was very inappropriate, I made the mistake of trusting their competency - the tree is now dying - a mistake that cost me $500 as they refuse to replace it. After this I started to write everything down when I needed work after this, sending to them and getting agreement. All the way down to the detail of which plants to trim, but they still could not manage to do as agreed. Had to nag and get them to return. Delightful. I asked if they could fertilize 4 times during the year, they agreed, then would not show up. I would keep asking for weeks, then months, kept being told I was on the schedule. They only actually showed up one time for the year. This is a situation you won't want to be in - since they kept promising they would show I could not hire anyone else at risk of killing lawn with double fertilizing. This helped kill the lawn I am sure. The ONLY thing they got right was showing up to mow. But well past when the grass stopped growing - the owner had some simplistic notion his profits doing this were higher than doing the leaves. With the detailing and nagging they think much too highly of themselves to consider they can ever be at fault, the owner is way beyond being just tone deaf to his customers, they said they would only do snowplow work for me from then on. Of course they did not show up for the first snowstorm either. I finally fired them. Instead I hired Elevated Services, Jason showed up promptly for every single every snow after that and did great work. Behaved like an adult too. Just hired them for summer work too. I am at a loss as to how they could have any legitimate positive reviews, or even stay in business, given all this nonsense in a single season. I spent many thousands with them, payed my bills on time, gave them (too much) slack to show up etc. Northern Roots is too pricey with the high rates, minimums, and surprise add-on fees. They proved difficult, misleading, do not do what they promise and did inconstant work. Avoid them and hire someone you can depend on, they will make your life miserable and they might just kill your lawn too.

My friend recommended me to them and they had great experience as well! They were very fast in getting me a quote and I was surprised on the quote they gave me. It was much cheaper than others. The day of the move went so smooth. They had the right equipment to carry my valuable things, they were very gentle with my stuff, and they communicated so well!! Honestly, next time I move I would definitely use them again.

James and Mike arrived a few minutes ahead of the scheduled time, made a quick assessment of everything we were moving and proceeded to load everything efficiently and securely. The truck seemed well maintained and they had a ton of blankets to use on the floor and around the furniture. We met them at the apartment and they used the alley to unload the truck given the busy main road (Chicago Ave). They had to navigate four flights (the alley is one level below street level) of tight and steep stairs (old brownstone, no elevator) to the apartment and found creative solutions for tricky corners. They put the pieces back together that were disassembled for travel (recliner, bed frame). James is not a big guy but handled this job in an extremely capable manner; he's strong and obviously very experienced at moving. Mike was very agreeable and they worked well together as a team. The move took 2 hours and 15 minutes total. The clock stopped when everything was in the apartment. They charge in 15 minute intervals and the pricing seemed fair given the difficulty. The charge was $330 including tax. The website lists the cost for two men and a truck at $135/hr. I was surprised that I had to pay at the end of the move in cash or check; I assumed I would be billed later and could pay with a credit card. Glad I had one check in my wallet. We absolutely could not have done this by ourselves even using my son's friends. The expertise needed would've been beyond us and no doubt it would've taken twice as long with damage to the furniture, the building, and us!
