If you are choosing a Rheumatologist, please see Dr. Schenk FIRST! You may save yourself a lot of time, money, grief and unnecessary pain. Dr Schenk and his Front Office Staff are amazing. From my first contact by phone I was treated with care, kindness and professionalism. Since the onset of my condition 3 years ago I have been to countless doctors, most of whom don't spend much time or seem to take an interest. I have felt like I'm being shuffled around the system. The difference in this office was evident the moment I arrived. I was greeted by name and treated as a valued patient. The office has a quiet, comfortable and professional atmosphere. Dr Schenk himself greeted me warmly and asked many questions, some of which I hadn't been asked before by any of the doctors I've seen. He ordered a very thorough round of tests and X-rays and spent a good amount of time reviewing them all with me. He seemed to really WANT to help me. I sought out Dr Schenk because of his extensive experience and excellent reputation. He is a Doctor who serves on several professional Boards and groups and is very active in the Medical Community. By far the worst physician I have ever seen. He had no eye contact with me. He was rude and had the same questions over and over as if the second time my answer was going to change. I was sent to him by my MD for a second opinion. He advised me the other rheumatologist I was seeing was a good doctor as if I asked him his opinion on the other doctor. With my condition I have multiple symptoms he scanned the medical records I was given and said he they aren't enough. When he asked what I was allergic too I told him should be in the records. "You should know what you are allergic too" wtf! Then why take the medical records for him to review. He spoke to me very condescending . I waited 3 months for this appointment in hopes he would help find some relief but it was a major disappointment. I told the office manager he needs further training on patient /doctor contact. He seemed like he didn't want to see me as a patient because of my race. I asked him if talks to all his patients this way ??? He is JERK!!! I can't complain about his staff the front desk and everyone was really nice Good luck to anyone that is seeing this Jerk! Remember our insurance pays him we are his customers. read more

Dr. Schenk is a heartless, arrogant, and useless dinosaur. He needs to hang up his lab coat before he drives someone to the point of no return. He wasted a year of my time. He was dismissive, interrupted me constantly, refused to offer help, soulless and BLAMED ME FOR MY ILLNESS. HE ACCUSED ME OF EXAGGERATING MY PAIN!!!! I don't know how this old lady white fuddy duddy has not been forced into retirement yet. He's an embarrassment to UCI, and honestly an embarrassment to the field of Medicine. He said it was my fault for not being a good patient, my fault for having anxiety and my fault for not helping myself. He said my pain could not possibly be as bad as I described. He falsely insisted I was bipolar and blatantly disregarded science, factual evidence and my symptoms. I didn't even get to tell him the severity of my agony because he was busy interrupting and belittling me. I was so patient and cooperative during my year under his...."care". Finally today I snapped and left mid appointment after firing him. He's a joke. He still thinks we live in 1953. read more

I had 2 appointments with Dr. Schenk. Two things on the positive side: he ordered good lab work; it was very informative & the front desk ladies are very nice. He completely dismissed another rheumatologist's diagnosis who moved out from the area (even though looking back, that was closer to reality). At the beginning he announced that "his patients ARE TO take medication". That was before he sent me to lab. I specifically asked him about the 2 symptoms that were the most bothersome for me - Will the medication heal or help those? He replied with 0 empathy that "Probably not.." Why would I take the pills then? To make things worse with the serious side effects without getting any benefits? Dr. Schenk replied that patients shouldn't read all that literature about the side effects, because it only confuses them & they shouldn't obsess about their lab results either, basically just stay in the dark & take the pills & let's hope that they don't do more damage than good. Another memorable moment was when he ridiculed me for taking turmeric against inflammation, claiming that it was totally worthless, "just like all others". Rheumatology indeed deals with some incurable, not yet fully understood conditions, I realize that, but there are better ways to treat the patients than this robotic approach. read more

Where has this doctor been all my life (well, since I needed a rheumatologist)? Dr. Schenk is very personable and thorough, and takes his time to explain things and conduct an examination. The office staff (Jackie and Blanca) are also fantastic, and I felt right at home. I haven't felt this good about a rheum since I 2003 when I was diagnosed and going to Dr. Shiel. Best doctor ever!!! I came to Dr Schenk with bilateral Uveitis. I was sent to him because my eye doctor said it may be caused by an autoimmune disorder. The first time seeing Dr Schenk, he asked a ton of questions and listened like no doctor has ever listened before. It was clear he cared and understood my fears (I could barely see). He didn't rush me, he would listen, think and ask a follow up question. He invested a lot of time and follow up to get me an answer to what the heck was going on with me. I feel amazing (had no idea the chronic pain I had been in was an autoimmune disorder) and my sight is restored. God bless him. If you want a doctor who ACTUALLY listens and cares, go to Dr Schenk. Oh, and his office staff is just as amazing. They followed up and handled all of the prior authorizations quickly. They cared about helping their patient get better. I took my 91 yr. old mother to see Dr. Shrenk, she was in need of immediate care.Dr, Shrenk was totally inconsiderate of her age and dementia condition. I could have overlooked his poor bedside manner if he was a great Dr. However is medical skills were no better than his manners. I got to say this has been a learning curve for me. After months of what I felt that I was getting no where and being frustrated with the doc, we both were at an impass with each other. Each time he took a blood test it came back negative and yet I am in a lot of pain. My joints hurt very bad. Another doctor ran the same tests and they came back postive for R.A. so the doc suggested we do an ultrasound to see if there inflamation in the joints. Sure enough he found a lot of it. So now he knew I wasn't bullsh&ting him. Now the doc is going to put me on some REAL meds!!! Finally a DOCTOR that is hearing me! Thank heavens! I am really starting to like my doc. YaY!!! read more
