Phil filed an extension for me in 2018 (as is customary for my family) and promised in writing that he would complete the taxes as soon as he could. I sent him everything, fully expecting that he would file with the IRS and bill me after as usual. I became a little concerned when he never responded to my multiple e-mails at the time, but figured he had everything he needed. Not once did it ever occur to me that he hadn't filed the taxes. Fast-forward to six months later, when the Covid scare began. I never received a government relief check and didn't understand why. After doing some extensive digging, I realized the government did not have a copy of my 2018 taxes. I thought there must have been some mistake. So I called and e-mailed Phil, but never received a response even after saying I was very concerned and needed to know if the taxes had been filed. They hadn't. I also wanted to be sure he had been paid for his work and that the forms hadn't gone to an old address by mistake. Sadly I had to hire a new accountant and am now fighting the IRS over $2,500 in late penalty fees. Had Phil called to say there had been some mistake and that he was sorry, I would have possibly understood. But to never receive any response after 8 years of working together is extremely unprofessional and disturbing.

If you really want to complain, use your real name, not 'Peter D.' Fight like a man, not a sniper that stab people behind." As I mention in my review, he complained a lot during the few weeks we used him; I asked him to let us know how we could restructure the project to make it more efficient and easier for him. Instead, he just quit, with no notice at all. Now he's sent this message to me. I do not think this professional. I really want everyone to understand what you're getting into if you hire Mei CPA. Below is my review in full: He quit in the middle of a job because it is "too much for me." I work for a very small business with very limited bookeeping needs, and Mei CPA was indirectly recommended to us; it took a really long time to explain to Paul what seemed to be really simple concepts of running a business (some money comes in for sales, some goes out to pay our suppliers, and there are business expenses for advertising and marketing need to be accounted for as well - that's really it). He kept expressing befuddlement at all of this. I asked him over and over again if there was a better way to do our accounting; he kept talking about how confusing this is, and he never offered any advice or suggestions for how to make it better. On the materials he created for us, he always got the name of the company wrong. He kept representing himself as my personal accountant, even though I told him over and over again that the accounting had to be done for the LLC, which I don't own in its entirety. He said that "usually" that's not the way he does things, and so he never fixed the errors in what he created for us. I had to do it myself. He didn't ever seem to understand the basic idea of what a business is, and he kept complaining all the time about it without offering any suggestions. Every time he complained, I asked him please to give us suggestions for improvement, but he never did. He offered nothing of value. A week or so ago, he called me and said that the job was too "tedious" for him, that there were "too many numbers to add up." I asked him if there was a way to simplify it, to make our system less complicated - this is after all what we were coming to him for. He said, "It's not that it's complicated, it's that it's tedious." He complained that the work for Q2 had taken him an entire day to complete and that he wasn't paid enough. I offered to work on getting him more money, if that was the concern. Following this conversation, I sent him an email - I began as follows: "Good morning, Paul - Thanks again for raising your concerns yesterday about the tedious nature of the work you're doing on this project. I hope this email helps clarify what we are looking for and the way this runs, which we discussed verbally, and you can then use this to send a proposal for the types of work you are willing to do, and we can see if it fits in with what we need." I followed then by outlining the nature of the company - how he should treat payments to the company, from the company, outlining as clearly as I could the various different income streams, and asking him to outline how he would propose the service should work, what he would be willing to do. I had by that time devoted a huge amount of time to trying to get him up to speed. He sent back an email quitting with no notice. He said, "This project is too much for me," still without explaining what about the work was "too much" or what would have made it better for him. Was it just too much work? Was it too complicated? Was there something that could have been done to streamline our accounting system? This is what we would have hoped to get from him. Maybe he didn't like me, or the work, or whatever it was. I certainly tried my best to make it work; I was never rude to him, never snapped at him, tried to explain it patiently over and over, and always sought his input and feedback. But even if somehow he just didn't like me, this is really unprofessional behavior, just to quit like this and do nothing to finish the work he started.

I got a prompt response that they could and to send my w2s and any other pertinent information which I did, and for two weeks got the run around. I made countless calls and emails trying to just get confirmation that the taxes would be handled and filed with no response. I had countless conversations w their assistant and was told each time that my call would be returned, but it never was. I finally gave up and went with another company. When I emailed the accountant to let them know I did not need or want his services he responded immediately with an excuse and had the nerve to say he could still file my taxes (a day before the deadline). This behavior is absolutely reckless and unprofessional and shouldn't be tolerated w such sensitive and personal information and such an important issue. They're messing with people's lives and run the risk of making people have to file for an extension and accrue penalties. If you can't take on a customer and are overloaded then let them know so they can make other arrangements instead of stringing them along. This is no way to treat a customer.

I first went to consult David back in March 2022 and he was great. He answered all my tax questions and I was in and out of the office in no time. I thought to myself, great, I just found an amazing accountant in my neighborhood. During that time, I explained to David about my situation and he responded to come back to me when tax season is over and all he has to do is to file a 1040x (to amend my tax return - 1040). (Side note: The issue that I had was that I initially e-filed my taxes. The federal rejected it but the state accepted it. Which is why I went to seek professional services in resolving the problem). So on December 12, 2022 at 1:30pm I went to see David and his office was busy. I told David I did not have an appointment and I asked, "should I make an appointment"? He decided to hear me out at first but then he passed my case to one of his employees. The employee explained to me that since I did not file my taxes 2020 taxes with them, there is nothing that they can do and I would have to come back during tax season. I tried to explain to them what David told me back in April (to come back after tax season) and David told his employee in Chinese "just ignore him, he is too annoying". Yup, just because someone doesn't speak the language, doesn't mean the person does not understand. The funny thing is that, just over the weekend, the same family friend asked me how was my experience with David because she wanted to file her taxes with him for the upcoming year. I raved about how great he was the first time around but after this experience, it got me to think: if a family friend doesn't even use your service in the first place, it is extremely telling of your professional demeanor or the lack thereof.
