We have been bringing our daughters to this pediatric office for years, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about the entire team. Alfie is always so personable, friendly, and helpful whenever we call. Scheduling appointments is always easy, and he consistently goes above and beyond to make sure our family is taken care of. It's comforting to know there is always someone kind and helpful on the other end of the phone. Recently, my daughter was having breathing issues, and Dr. Leus was kind enough to squeeze us in at the last minute. Even though she isn't our daughter's primary pediatrician, she took the time to thoroughly evaluate her, answer our questions, and make sure she received the care she needed. We were incredibly grateful for her compassion and willingness to help during a stressful situation. We also had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Yoon, who has been caring for our girls for years. She is everything you hope for in a pediatrician--kind, calm, patient, and genuinely caring. She takes the time to listen to concerns, never makes us feel rushed, and always answers our questions thoughtfully. Most importantly, she is so gentle with our daughters and makes them feel comfortable during every visit. We are incredibly thankful to have such a caring team looking after our children. The compassion, professionalism, and dedication shown by everyone in this office is truly exceptional. We highly recommend this practice to any family looking for outstanding pediatric care. read more

Wow! What an amazing business. My 17-year-old daughter is my miracle baby! We went in today for her 17 year-old physical appointment and visited Dr. Leus. What an amazing doctor! She engaged with my daughter and we discussed, therapy, birth control ( when she decides to have sex), her Junior year in high school and a whole bunch of other stuff. She got her 2 meningitis shots as well. Dr. Leus was completely supportive of video therapy which I can get scheduled now and billed to our insurance whereas I can't with local therapists. The business is clean, the administrators are attentive and helpful! Everything is great! I definitely recommend this business! read more

My daughter caught pneumonia and I had brought her to urgent care carbon health, and this was the one in Berkeley and I don't think she was a doctor. I feel like she was a physician assistant or the doctor wasn't in. I'm not sure but she was like oh it's normal for her to have a fever for seven days and it should go away tomorrow. It did not go away tomorrow. She continued her fever through the night. I took her to Stanford health the next day and she said she 100% has pneumonia. They gave her antibiotics and she was better within 1.5 days. She still had that terrible cough but at least the fever finally subsided. It was terrible my poor little seven-year-old and urgent care Pple not knowing what the hell they're doing thank God for this place. I highly recommend. read more

Our infant daughter goes here. She had a major health incident at 6 months old and the doctors went above and beyond throughout that time. Scheduling last-minute appts was easy, all the doctors were kept updated such that when her primary wasn't available the other doctors were able to see her and continue monitoring her situation, they even called to check up on her. All the doctors we saw were kind and knowledgeable. I also appreciate that they always have an on-call doctor 24/7. For her annual well-checks, compared to my son's primary dr (at another practice), they are much more thorough. And they have appointment openings available if you ever need it. Also, in response to some of the other reviews here, I haven't had any major issues with their receptionists. read more

We love all the doctors here - they are great from the start as they come visit you at the hospital if you give birth at Sutter Health at Berkeley, which was nice. Both our kids come here and the staff is super accommodating and patient with daycare paperwork. I didn't know this for over 2 years but there's a parking lot in the back where the post office is reserved for patients. It's helpful especially with kids. Street parking is not terrible in the back but Park Street is going to be more difficult with the fire station and blocked off parking for restaurants. read more

I wish they would have given me informed consent regarding vaccines when I brought my children here in the early 2000s. I had no idea the risks of vaccines. I wish I would have had resources like LearnTheRisk.org or AreVaccinesSafe.org Often the pediatrician had a condescending tone and as a young parent, I didn't think I could ask questions. As well I didn't know what questions to ask. I wish the pediatrician would have informed me of the dangers. I am so glad they are no longer encouraging the HPV vaccine. People I know have had their children harmed by this vaccine ... Colton Berrett and Christopher Bunch are two sweet boys who died die the hpv vaccine. Please always give your patients informed consent. It's what I wish I would have gotten. I am grateful for when our pediatrician put my child's dislocated elbow back in place. That's the type of good work pediatricians should do, not injecting toxins, often permanently disabling and lethal, into our precious children. read more

I have been going to this clinic for about 4 years with my 4 year old and 15 month old. The physicians Dr Alcala and Dr Wallach are amazing. Would highly recommend them. The complaint I have is with the MA Daisy. She is new. She is absolutely awful and had an attitude after I asked her to wear a mask. Also, I had to use the restroom but had my 15 month old. I asked her if she expected me to bring my child to the bathroom with me and she said YES!! This absolutely pissed me off, that she couldn't watch my child for 1 min while I go to the bathroom! My experience with the clinic has always been a 5- the physicians and Jennifer the MA are all amazing. This review is for Daisy the MA. Hopefully this would trigger some internal development or extra training for Daisy. read more

The location of this office is convenient - right off of Park St. and the Doctors are all friendly with the kids. My only issue is that they don't seem to be taking Covid as seriously as other doctor or dentist offices right now. For example, none of the staff was wearing a high quality mask at our last visit. Instead, they had blue surgical masks on and one of the front desk workers was wearing it under her chin. They also don't have air filters in every exam rooms and have locked all of the windows closed. I was really surprised to see the setup since such a big portion of their patients are unvaccinated kids. read more

Been taking my now adult children here since they were very young and while they've had various MD's, mostly Dr. Harris now retired, we've always had a positive experience here. At times the appointment wait can be a little long, but that's to be expected at any medical office. Environment is always clean and well organized. Parking is easy. read more

Absolutely lovely, caring and thoughtful doctors but there's a certain receptionist that is so incredibly rude! I thought it was a one-off but it's been going on for years! Every time we call to make an appointment, she gives nothing but attitude and is extremely condescending! Why work there if you hate your job and hate the people that you talk to! Deplorable! read more

This review is for the staff of this clinic. My child had an appointment but we were 10-15mins late due to unexpected traffic and no parking available. I know that i was late and should have contacted the clinic to notify but if your sick child is crying all the way while driving from SF to alameda it is hard to make a phonecall. The reception desk had an attitude to tell me i had to reschedule and didnt offer any help. Their customer service is bad. I even saw my son's pediatrician Dr. H and didnt even bother to look at us or check on my son if he is sick or not. She just rushed off to leave. I was so disappointed at this facility for the way they treat their patients. There is no care at all. I wouldnt come back to this place. It was a total waste of time. read more

We've been coming to this office since my kids were toddlers (they're 11 and 13 now). Dr. Wallach is our primary, and we love her. Over the years, though, we've seen everybody, at some point or another, and it's always a good experience. It's clean, the waiting area is cute, and the staff - nurses, front desk, and doctors - are all friendly and warm. They've also been able to give me same or next day appointments just about every time the kids have needed them. They even double checked with my insurance before our yearly checkup - which definitely saved me an unexpected bill. Our insurance requires checkups to be at least one-year-and-a-day after the last checkup. I made an appointment without that in mind - two weeks too early. They checked up on it, and contacted me ahead of time to warn me. I really appreciated that consideration. read more

Before our son was born, we did a lot of research and interviewed a few pediatricians in the area before we chose Dr. Wallach. Our son is two years old now and we couldn't have asked for a better doctor. She's caring, thorough and always smiling. They have an after hours line and the pediatricians on-call are always there to help. read more

We could not be more pleased with the care that our infant son receives at Alameda Pediatric Associates, and how patient and responsive the doctors are to us as new parents. We have seen Dr. Alcala and Dr. Harris and we love them both... they are so kind, very gentle with children, and clearly knowledgeable and seem to genuinely enjoy what they do. Highly recommend if you live in Oakland or Alameda! read more

My daughter fractured her thumb. I was told somebody would call me to tell me what the next steps were. I emailed them -- no answer. After a full week of not hearing from the doctor, I called them because, well, it's a BROKEN BONE. The receptionist I spoke with offered no help or insight into why I was never contacted about treatment. This practice is terrible. I would not recommend them to anybody. read more

Never again! I made an appt for my daughter, it was her first time seeing someone there and was scheduled to see Dr. Yoon, she was very nice and friendly. My daughter was having a stomach flu and she told me what I need to do and so on. What I like about them was that they have a 24/hour doctor on call. Suddenly in the middle of the night that same day, My daughter temperature was dropping at 92, she was basically shivering. I panicky and contact the 24hr on call doctor right away! it just happen it was Dr. Yoon. I was excited that it was her. Big mistake! She sound so annoyed when I was telling her my daughter condition, her response!! She said that the temperature I took was wrong, I took it like 10x, instead of guiding me on what I need to do, she basically did not believe what I was telling her. I quickly took my daughter to the ER, and change back to her old pediatrician. The next day I contact the office and spoke with a staff there, explain to her my frustration. She told me a doctor will call me back. Really?.... I'm still waiting...... read more

Been coming here since a few months after my daughter was born (shes a year and a half now) and so far I'm very pleased. Availability and Appointments: What I love about this place is that they leave room in the daily schedule for people who have a sick child/minor emergency, so you don't need to worry about actually bringing in your child to the ER where they charge you an arm and leg just to end up with antibiotics and a bandaid. You do need to call in for an appointment though, but I've never had a problem with that and they're pretty quick and efficient about it. Another plus, is that they're open Monday thru Saturday which I know for a lot of parents is very accommodating. Oh and for parents with needs in the middle of the night, they have an answering service with a doctor on call 24/7. You may not be able to see a doc but at least you can talk to one till the morning. Staff: Contrary to what some people might say, I've always found the staff to be very welcoming and helpful. Going up to the front desk, I've always been greeted with a smile and an occasional "hello" when they're not on the phone. Also, when I had a problem with my insurance, they made calls and helped me sort through it instead of making me go through the whole ordeal and telling me to fix it myself. Doctors: When I bring my daughter, I either see Dr. Yoon or Dr. Wallach. Originally my daughter was seeing Dr. Yoon, but since her maternity leave, Dr. Wallach has been seeing my daughter. Both are very good doctors. They are both thorough and patient when seeing us. They always make sure to listen to what I observe about my daughters symptoms and they don't make me feel like a crazy worried mom. I also like the fact that even though I'm a bit of a young mom (I'm 22), they don't make me feel like I don't know what I'm doing, which is a vibe I've gotten from doctors and others in the past. The only con I really have is their answering system. You will always talk to a live person on the phone, but the problem is, all they can really do is take messages. THAT'S IT! You can't make appointments or speak to a doc directly. They take your message and if you need a doctor, they will have the doctor call you back. BUT, on the plus side, the doc calls you back pretty quickly (from my experience, within 10 mins) read more

We've been taking our children to Alameda Pediatrics since their first well-baby visit in 2008 and we couldn't be happier with the great care and service from the doctors and staff their! Dr. Parker is the primary care doctor for our twins at AP and we are thrilled with her. My wife and I are parents of premature twins. Our children were 15 weeks premature and spent over 4 months in the NICU before coming home. They faced heart surgery, BPD, the standard developmental delays that all 25 weekers face, and a variety of other medical challenges. For the first year of their lives, our kids continued with monthly visits with several specialists -- four at one point. So naturally, it was very important for us to find the right doctor. We live in Alameda, and Dr. Parker and AP came highly recommended to us. She is probably among the best qualified pediatricians in Alameda to care for preemies, given that she herself is a mom of preemie triplets. Needless to say, she has an intuitive understanding of our children's needs, and she -- of course -- has clear insight into the stresses of parenting preemies. She has never hesitated to provide a referral, and she has assisted us whenever our insurance company has tried to send us to a less desirable practitioner. (I'm in the Coast Guard, and occasionally Tricare tries to send our kids to Travis AFB for treatment.) Her office has been willing to see us on short notice many, many times - I can usually get an appointment the same morning. Likewise, every time we've called after hours, a doctor within the practice has gotten back to us within minutes and VERY patiently assisted us with all our questions. (Our twins are our first children, so we tended to call an awful lot in the first year -- probably once every couple weeks...) Very important for us, Dr. Parker and the other doctors at AP have a great bedside manner for kids and parents alike. She has great a way of putting us at ease. It would have been much tougher to get through the difficult medical ordeal we've faced over the last couple years without her. If you are a parent of multiples or a preemie, look no further! read more

The front desk staff is deplorable. Pediatrician also discouraged HPV vaccines. I wish there was a better option.

We have been coming here since my son was born last August 2013. Super huge fan of Dr. Wallach. My son loves her. She's very attentive and not dismissive of my concerns as a first time parent. I have never had any difficulty scheduling a same day appointment. And contrary to an early review, I have always had a pleasant experience with the front desk. The only knock on the practice is the follow-up process. I was told that by Wednesday I would be getting a call regarding a referral for a specialist for my son's UTI and it's a Thursday and I haven't gotten a call. Good thing though, is that they are easy to reach and once reminded, they will either give you the information that you need, or will call back within an hour to give you an answer. read more

5/2010 update: I got a message that Dr. Butts passed away -- he was my physician as a child and a kind man. --- Dr. Butts is still practicing? That dude took care of my first ear infection when I was like five months old. Ah - anyone who came here when it was still on Santa Clara Ave will fondly remember the colored styrofoam balls over the examination rooms and the jar of animal cookies by the door. Not-so-fond memories include: getting shots (a necessary evil of childhood) and a few really bad experiences with the office manager woman that I won't recount because I doubt she still works there (BUT I will say that one experience involved her telling my step-mom that she wasn't allowed to come into the exam room with me when I was 14 because she mistakenly assumed that my youthful-looking stepmom was one of my friends). When I was in high school, I loved my pediatrician here so much that I kept trying to go to her...even after high school when I was like 19. Only the gentle laughter and suggestion of the receptionist finally persuaded me to look into finding a grown-up doctors office, sans animal cookies. Thanks for never misdiagnosing my childhood illnesses and for letting me play with the scales in the exam rooms. read more

From the first time I brought my baby in, the Doctors at Alameda Pediatric Associates have been so wonderful! They really take the time to answer all my questions, give any additional advice, stay calm and are so understanding of a new mother. From the first time Dr. Yoon met my baby at the birthing center she was so kind, sweet and gentle with her. I remember the first time I brought in my baby, I had to stop and breastfeed her after the appointment. Dr. Yoon said that I had the room for as long as I needed and she said she completely understood about needing a place to nurse her baby. They truly understand and care for each and every one of their patients. Just tonight I panicked slightly probably for no good reason because I fed my baby a food that was not on the recommended food list. Dr. Yoon was the on-call Doctor (but all of their doctors who are on-call are like this) quickly calmed me down and went into the background and history as to why blueberries may not have been on the list of recommended foods. She gave some suggestions on how to serve it to ensure my baby didn't choke and any warning signs I should look out for. She put my mind at ease and went the extra mile to really inform me about feeding and allergies. They're a wonderful practice and I'd recommend them to any parent! read more

Just moved to East Bay from SF looking for a pediatrician for our 3 children. Found Dr. A. Bennett, at AP and since she trained at UCSF where we formally took our children we decided for her to be our new pediatrician. Big mistake! We took our newborn to her for his 2 day check up. She explained that his circumcision was not healing properly and showed us what we needed to do for it to heal properly & if we didn't he would need a surgical procedure when he was older. With out going into details she ended up making him bleed a lot to where she had to use silver nitrate to stop bleeding, my husband & I was so upset at the situation, I explained to her that, that seemed like a lot of blood & she told me "no that's not" she went on to bring in 2 other doctors & print out articles from Internet that she was right in what she did. Never did she show compassion for my screaming newborn or said sorry. She was too busy trying to prove her point. When my husband asked questions she got VERY defensive! Don't doctors always say "ask questions"? Well not here! We immediately went home and called UCSF and explained what happend, they told us to bring him in right away so they can take a look at him. So we took our son back to UCSF to our former pediatrician, where they explained that what she did was WRONG! She shouldn't have touched his circumcision & there was nothing wrong with it. They prescribed my newborn a antibiotic ointment, in case of infection. Baby is doing fine, but I feel terrible that I chose to leave UCSF for convinence of location. We are back at UCSF and will never leave! The pediatricians at UCSF were very surprised that Dr. A Bennett was trained there. My husband and I are not big "Yelpers" but this incident was very disturbing. We will never recommend Alemeda Pediactrics to anyone! Had to give 1 star to post. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Wallach since i had my first child in 2012. I live in the area and wanted to keep it local without jeopardizing my child's health. She is now also the Dr. to one of my preemie twins and I couldn't be happier. read more

Loved Dr. Wallach; she took the time to ask a lot of questions about my son. She was thorough and informative.

My daughter has been going here for over a year and we have been so happy with all of the doctors. Dr. Wallach has been especially amazing and has been the most attentive doctor I have ever met. I never feel rushed and I always feel as though I can take all the time I need to get my questions answered. The office also as a 24 hour line that allows you to speak with a doctor if your child is sick. The doctors never make me feel bad about calling and always give good advice. I fully recommend this practice and plan on my daughter seeing Dr. Wallach until she's an adult. read more

Great customer service! Doctors are very knowledgeable and the wait time is usually minimal. Plus it's a great environment for the kids.

Our pediatrician is Dr. Alcala, whom we really like. She has been warm, friendly, and professional. On Saturday morning, our son got sick and we needed to get him checked. We misunderstood the policy around their Saturday morning urgent care hours and were not booked for the appointment we needed. I was so impressed with the helpful and professional attitude from the front desk, Jennifer Clark, and Dr. Parker, who was on that day. Other places may have reacted to our situation with frustration, but they listened to us and were able to efficiently accommodate us with an extremely professional, kind, and understanding manner. I want to thank them again for their wonderful and very helpful care and recommend them to others. read more

Our experience with this office has been really disappointing especially when it comes to recommended CDC vaccine schedule. Not surprisingly dr. A.Bennett was extremely pushing with vaccines at the time ( there was no mandatory vaccine law for schools) She took my daughter in her arms and acted like she will absolutely die if she does not receive Prevnar 13. Not to mentioned that she had a respiratory infection at the time! Well, no surprise again to see that vaccine is almost 300 $. I questioned the vaccine schedule, that many of you pro vaccine parent might not, but I absolutely cannot grasp 5 shots or even more at the time to a perfectly healthy 2 month old! These doctors wont even consider worried parents, and hold us as we are some ignorant who come into their offices and have no idea how vaccines work at all. Yet, by the info today, we know that these doctors who see our children are receiving a few pages of vaccine info in their text books! You don't need to be a scientist to see and read vaccine package inserts ( almost never shown to parents, we only get CDC handouts) to see that something is wrong with how vaccines are made. Ingredients will make you cringe...... Dr. Bennet made it clear that she does not take patient that will not be allowed to take vaccines. It is not profitable for their office I guess.... With all the auto-immune disorders, allergies, autism epidemic etc , these doctors still bully parents into giving these drugs. It is all clear that is all about money, and make sure that this office is one of them. Lack of people skills, very sterile environment etc Dr. Bennett refused the alternative vaccine schedule and made a rude comment over the phone, which made me thank her for her service and find another respectful pediatrician. I can thank her for that! read more

All I can say is don't go to this office. The FRONT DESK people are horrible!!! One time I called just to ask questions about the bill that they sent me and I did call my insurance already and they told me what's the problem. The front desk lady told me to call the insurance again and I just told her what the insurance told me but it's seems like she's not listening to me. She's sooooo rude. And also the rooms, I agree with one of the reviews here that the rooms there is so hot. I had to wait for the doctor for at least 15 to 20 minutes. Dr. Parker is nice but those people in front desk are greeting you without manners, I recommend you guys to look for another office. read more

I've been impressed by the level of care at Alameda Pediatrics. My daughters (2 & 4) have mainly seen Dr. Parker and Dr. Wallach and they have both been really great. They take the time to make them comfortable and smiling before examining them so that the process can be tear free - which is a huge plus. The experience has been so positive that my girls love to play doctor at home. I've also always been pleased with the care they've been given when sick and the recommendations for treatment. The only downside is that the wait can be kind of long so I try and book my appointments first thing in the morning so that they are not backed up with patients. read more

OMG!! I had a horific experience with this office. On their website, it states that "Our office staff are courteous, helpful, well-informed, and interested in your care", I experienced none of this. The office manager (co-receptionist) does not sound like she wants business. Because we just registered with new insurance, our ID cards had not arrived, so I called our insurance to ask for my daughter's id and procedure. They gave us a provider phone line and told me to have the provider contact them for anything. I had it's written down and presented to this office manager, but she kept saying it's my responsibility to have the insurance company fax insured eligibility sheet to her. So with my daughter on one hand, I got on the phone and called my insurance again and got the same instruction to have provider to contact them. I was so upset that she had wasted my time and did not listen to what I have presented to her. After she was done verifying our insurance coverage, I asked her if she was clear and hope that she does not have to make every new patient having to do this. Then she went on and on again with office policy and still no sign of explaination of her actions. Interestingly, in the waiting room for the doctor visit, the office manager again went in the room and confronted me that she did not like the way I talked to her, stated that I "talked down to her", then went on and on with justifying on the reason of their "office policy". If their office policy is so "working", why I had to waste my time??. When I met with Dr. Bennett, she finally came down with a reason that this is small office with low staff, and that there was miscommunication, no apology on her end but insisted that I was "yelling". If she went through with what I had to go though with her office manager, she sure would "yell" out loud!! My sister recommended me to this office because of Dr. Parker's service, however, with bad customer service like this, I would never never go back! read more

My family recently moved to Alameda from out of state. I found great reviews for this office from another mom of a special needs child so I came on in with my complex kiddo. This office is as good as it gets! The front office staff delivers messages accurately and communicates clear expectations. She has the medicine knowledge but recognizes every day life challenges too. I'm so glad to have found this office! read more

My review is long overdue. My daughter started seeing Dr. Parker a few months ago (but has seen all the other physicians for same-day appointments) and could not be happier with her and the practice. All the doctors seem very knowledgeable--especially Dr. Parker and Dr. Wallach. My daughter used to be part of UCSF pediatrics but made the switch when we moved to Alameda. Although we had great care at UCSF, getting a same-day appointment was difficult, the appointments took forever, and you did not get a feeling that the doctors, nurses, or staff really cared about your child. At APA, the doctors all seem to really like my daughter, care about what's best for her and our family, and work with us to figure out what the right approach is. Due to some trouble with her ears, we are in the doctor's office at least several times each month. Every time we come in, the staff is very friendly and updates us on the wait (which is rarely long). This practice also has a doctor on call 24/7--no overreacting advice nurse telling you to take your child into the ER! And they are open on Saturday for sick kid appointments. Truly a great medical practice. read more
