CR Design Center - CR did not predrill the holes before installing screws, which caused the trim to detach from the wall. Very poor installation.

Kerry was spectacular and has quite the eye and ear, listening to what we were looking for and matching it with options. We are extremely excited for what awaits us when everything is installed.

The doors are beautiful. However, the installation process has been an absolute nightmare. CR has made 6 trips to the house and the doors still aren't installed correctly. One installer didn't predrill the holes before installing the support brackets and that resulted in all of the interior trim being pulled off the wall, which had to be repainted at my expenses. Another installer came back to install vinyl trim and he installed white instead of the brown we ordered to match the doors. See pic. When CR sent another installer to replace the white trim with the brown trim, the installer left large gaps between the trim and the house. See pic. The materials used to hide the nails and screws fell off within a few hours of installation. See pic. The installer says the garage doors come equipped with free cameras but he wasn't willing to set up the cameras so we could start using them. The brown vinyl trim used for the replacement had white paint marks on it. See pic. I should have paid the extra $1500 to go with the local mom and pop business who would've knocked out this project in one shot. Lesson learned.

I mentioned this to a friend of mine and they said that I needed to talk to a contractor and then to my insurance agent. Tom and his crew came out the day before the claims adjuster came out and their quote was right on the money with what the claims adjuster said and to my surprise, there was a lot of hidden damage. Tom's team came out and started working. The first day they ripped off half of our roof and replaced it so that everything was sealed up over night. Good thing because it rained that night. The next day, they ripped off the other half of the roof and replaced it. Their roofers were amazing! Then they started working inside. They had to refinish all of the hardwood because it was warped under the piano. Then they treated the areas where water leaked in and painted everything. They were in and out in no time and were right in line with what our insurance adjuster said they should charge. We can't recommend them enough.

The advice in the kitchen area made it a much more useful work space than the original. The advice in the bath added room for a more spacious tub and modern toilet. All issues that arose were dealt with promptly and to the satisfaction of all. The property they renovated was 50 years old, yet they were able to meld old with new and preemptively replace infrastructure that was overdue for failure along the way at a lower cost. They have stood behind their work, even helping us to identify a problem that was unrelated to anything they did at no charge at a later time. We highly recommend!

The folks at BA were helpful, responsive, explained what needed to be done and helped us navigate all of the projects they headed. They worked mostly with my wife and just did an amazing job. They were even sensitive about our budget and made adjustments accordingly (marble and tile decisions, timing of when to do what, etc.). Anyways, I usually don't gush about a service provider but this team went above and beyond. So I guess I felt compelled to do the same. Highly recommend BA. You're doing yourself a favor and saving yourself multiple headaches. This team can do everything you need done.

Kara was one of the worst people I've ever done business with, she was rude, spiteful and…read moreaggressive on several occasions; and often made up false reasons why I behaved a certain way which I had to spend a good deal of time correcting. For example, when I did not return a text message within a couple of hours, she would say that I was avoiding her or trying to put her off in some way, even though I had previously explained that I didn't have my personal cell phone in meetings and would not be able to respond to her quickly during business hours. As time lapsed, she got more and more unreasonable. On at least two occasions, she threatened to put a lien on my house and take me to court. The first time was because I did not want to pay the entire third installment, only a portion of it, since her crew did not finish the work on the deadline provided. This seemed reasonable to me, but she threw a major fit on the phone, called me a number of highly unprofessional terms and then threatened me with a law suit. So, I backed down, in tears, to avoid a silly suit and hopefully finish the last items so I could put my house up on the market sooner rather than later. Then, a few days later she lost it over some missing paint, which I later found inside the house, but she accused me of stealing. The final straw was with the last payment, which I sent via postal mail from Maryland, where I live. She knew I was sending the payment, but when the check didn't come as quickly as she thought it should, she started her bullying tactics of leaving me nasty threats on my voicemail and via text. I was on a flight to California to go wine tasting with some college girlfriends, and the last thing I wanted to deal with was Kara and her craziness, but I had to nonetheless. She had me so stressed out during the flight, that I was thinking about paying her twice for the job in an attempt to end the bullying and the stress it was causing me. Luckily for me, the check finally arrived before my second flight landed-- she left me a message stating that she got the check and that she was paid in full, but she he never apologized ever for her behavior--which I find incredible given her unprofessionalism and aggression. I will say that for the most part, the work was done in a quality manner, with three exceptions: 1. I had some plumbing work done and it was supposed to be under warranty. So, when it the same plumbing issue resurfaced a couple of months later, I emailed to see if they would honor the warranty. Kara declined, stating that the company she owned went out of business (Laughing Sun Renovations). It's only now, that I paid another plumber $800 to come out and fix something her team was supposed to have fixed the first time that I find out she's opened another renovations company (that seems to do the same thing I was paying her old company to do). It's very disappointing to have had to fix this issue twice, as each time I had to pay the fee, but I also had to deal with getting the plumber to the property and cleaning up the drywall and getting the ceiling painting that needed to be done both times. It was both a waste of time and money. 2. I also had a lot of interior painting done, and while the paint job was done well, there were many drippings that were never cleaned up by her or her staff. I found a number in the bathtubs, on sinks, on drapes, etc. 3. She did some tile work in one of my bathrooms and some of it was not finished correctly. I had to pay someone else to come and fix it, so that there would not be any leaking from the improper install.

They were also the most expensive out of three companies considered. In response to Intown's reply: We did pay $600 more to fix the hidden trim work. We didn't feel it was right to pay an additional $1,000 for that and other items addressed in the estimate. As for changing the scope of the project, the recommended paint did not perform as described by Intown. We could not see our way clear to pay an additional $1,400 on a $14,000 job. At first, I assumed it was one of my daughters transforming her dinner into a projectile, but it turned out to be something much more concerning--a leaking skylight. I called my friend that had recently told me how happy he was with some work he had done at his house on a water damaged bedroom. He recommended Intown Craftsman and I called them that very night. I received a response the next morning, a phone call from Russ Melton. He assured me a member of the team would arrive soon with an estimate and even invited me to call him personally if I didn't hear from the team soon. There was no need, I received an email and a call later that day. Russ showed up the next day and provided an estimate for the project. While I had him there, I showed him some other issues with the house that had been on my "to-fix list" and he provided an estimate for those projects as well. The cost was exactly what I expected, and I gave him the go ahead to schedule workers ASAP. They came within a few days, even though it was all happening around the Thanksgiving holiday. Jose and another roofer (sorry, I didn't catch his name) showed up early for the appointment but waited out front until the appointed time. They were courteous, kind (even to my very excited dog), and had the problem fixed in no time. They even installed additional flashing to the second skylight (which hadn't yet started leaking) just as a precaution, free of charge. The office staff were just as kind and professional as the roofers. I worked with Deb Burris who helped me with billing and scheduling. The interface for billing was simple, the contracts and estimates were clear and easy to understand, and she was very knowledgeable and responsive over texts, emails and calls. I will certainly be calling them again soon for those other household projects. I recommend using them if you have any home improvement or repair needs.
