Simplify Home Organizing

I am a 78 year old widow who has also lost both of my children. I was overwhelmed trying to…read moremaintain a very large home on 14 acres of land and decided to move back to Gainesville. I hired a moving company that did a very good job moving the things I wanted to take but also added in all of the stuff I was planning to leave for the new owners. Needless to say my garage was overwhelmed and so was I. For months I tried going out to the garage and putting stuff from the large moving boxes and filling smaller boxes to take into my home so I could decide what to keep, what to donate and what to discard. After 4 months I had cleared a space large enough for my trash cans and recyclables. At that point I decided to hire Simplify Organizing to help me with the overwhelming task staring me in the face, After talking to Angela Dragon, the owner, we decided I needed a lot of help. Over the next few weeks I met 4 members of her remarkable team: Katie who was an absolute whiz at organizing every inch of my kitchen and Kathy and Charlotte who tackled my garage with enthusiasm and humor. It looks amazing with specific areas for each category of stuff with places for cleaning supplies, tools, paints, outdoor and garden equipment with labels to indicate where everything was. Finally I had Rae who was there all five days, She organized my bathroom cabinets and my closets. Not only does my closet look great, it is even organized by color and function. Rae also organized my home office which I called my "staging area" which was better than junk room. Rae and I made folders for all of my necessary files, both personal and business. I was almost amazed that it now looks like a spare bedroom again with a desk and filing cabinet!! I have to say that Angela and her team were outstanding in every way. They cheerfully loaded Rae's SUV every day with the stuff I was donating to the Repurpose project which made me feel good that perhaps someone who was looking for something specific might find it in the stuff I no longer needed. These five women were so friendly, warm, gracious and non-judgmental that I looked forward to seeing them every day; even though I was exhausted when they left. They are an amazing crew of women and I could not recommend them more highly.

This was a great investment of my time and money. I've already scheduled another session because…read moreof the great work Angela did with me today. To be clear, she doesn't do all the work. She's more of a home therapist, in that she really listens to what you think about the areas you need to work on and then works with you to accomplish those things. We didn't accomplish nearly everything I wanted; however, she spent a good deal of time at the end of the session helping me clarify and set goals for my work before she returns. She's really nice and she gently pushes you back on to task. And surprisingly working with her is as much emotional as it is physical. She also asks really good questions. Before you hire her, really think about what you want and what is important that you accomplish during your time together. Be prepared; you'll need garbage bags and also bags/boxes/totes for things you want to donate. It also wouldn't hurt to read The Joy of Less, by Miss Minimalist blogger Francine Jay. Also, she was great with my cats and I didn't feel worried at all when I had to leave the house a couple of times during our session. If I could give Joy of Less 100 stars, I would not hesitate to do so.
