During that time, Top Notch Roofing caused our home to flood, causing the bedroom ceiling to collapse and requiring full insulation and ceiling replacement. The living room developed two additional leaks due to their shoddy work, which meant more ceiling repairs and repainting the entire open-concept space. Our front yard was left destroyed after equipment and materials sat there for over 90 days. It wasn't just a mess; the material sat there for an entire summer; killing our lawn in the process. The crew was inconsistent at best; often no-shows, with little to no cleanup when they did come. When asked, they said they were from "Lowell"; which we assumed was local (Lowell, VT), but it turned out they were commuting from Lowell, MA. To our house in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Gabe and Drew built porch stairs that weren't up to code. When Dave, the owner, finally came to assess their work, he made them tear it out and rebuild it, but not before we were treated to the comedy gold that was Drew jumping up and down on the steps in an attempt to prove they were "fine." Dave also made everybody clean up the front yard, which took close to two hours between four people (Drew, Gabe, Jessica, Dave). Despite claiming on their website to be "fully insured," we learned that their insurance only covers subcontractors, not their own crew. So any work performed by Gabe or Drew or supervised by them isn't covered. Their own insurance company assessed $86,000 in damages to our home, and those are just the parts they acknowledged. They didn't protect the windows from the stain. I pointed this out and they returned to clean the windows. There are still smudges on the glass that they weren't able to remove. My front steps have multiple stain marks on them now. I asked Jody to fix the problem. He said he would be over during the week of 8/4 to correct it. I haven't seen or heard from him since. There are multiple areas on the siding with incomplete coverage as shown below. The quality of the work was far below what I expected based on the project cost.

Our project included a nearly complete painting of the interior of our home including ceilings, fresh drywall, old plaster and trim. Jody and his team went above and beyond, helping with color recommendations, sourcing and installing new trim that needed to be replaced and even staining new wood trim to ensure the updates to the room matched the history that we were keeping. Most of all though, we appreciated Jody and the team's flexibility. As this was part of a broader remodel, other projects on the house had some twists and turns. Wow! What a HUGE success our retaining wall pathway project has been! David Burton produced a superb design. Jeremiah and Sam busted their butts, through two very hot and humid weeks. They were always polite, never in the way, and highly meticulous. In my opinion, they are also highly skilled, operating excavators and other machinery expertly in tight and difficult terrain. Every time (and there were several) that I worried about a placement or a height or grade or whatever, Jeremiah stopped what he was doing, listened patiently, and then took whatever measure to allay my fears. He was kind, considerate, and responsive, as was Sam. It's fair to say that Distefano Landscaping overall did a superb job for us in every imaginable way. And the job came out right around the quoted price, even though there were some bumps (like buried stumps) along the road.

They never showed up. More contacts, no response. They finally showed up to assess the damage, 8 years later and told us the damage was caused by water and they would fix it. In contacting them to find out when they would show up to do the repairs we were told they were swamped and would get to us when they could, They never came back. Then covid hit. I reached out to them again this spring and received no response at all, so I can only assume they will not make the repairs. We assume that the damage was caused from not being sealed properly. 9 years later we ended up with a house that is falling apart along with brand new windows molding and birds making their home in the holes. So even though they claim to operate with integrity and honesty, beware, as I should of! And by the way, I do not live n California, I live in Burlington, Vt.
