Teodoro Capone founded this wine bar (enoteca) where his father had had a specialty fruit store. Part of the attraction was Teodoro. He was a great guy. Unfortunately he recently passed away quite young. His wife, Maria José, has kept the wine bar open. It attracts a loyal, I would say, primarily Italian clientele. But North Americans and Brits always felt welcome and the staff speaks enough English and Maria José speaks Spanish. It is close to the American University of Rome and the Intercollegiate Center of Classical Studies and it welcomes students. Teodoro once complimented me for four of my students who spent the evening sharing one bottle of wine. Often someone will, late at night, play a guitar and sing. It is lively but not a raucous and tacky tourist place like The Drunken Ship in the Campo de' Fiori. It's a authentic neighborhood wine bar with an excellent selection of wines and liquors (best calvados I've ever had), good enoteca food, and an international clientele. If you're a non-Italian, you should not be put off by the primarily Italian clientele. It's a welcoming place. read more
