My husband was scratching around looking for somewhere to eat in McComb and happened upon this place. I didn't even read the yelp reviews because I knew it had to be good food based on reading the menu. Once we were waiting for our meals I decided to check out yelp. Any review below 4 stars had huge red flags. Let's address those right out of the gate. 4 bites for a portion. Really? Let's be honest in our review. Unless your mouth is the size of a Mack truck, that's an exaggeration to say 4 bites. Maybe too small for your preference but our plates along with all we saw go by were plenty for anyone eating a normal serving. I even took some with me and I'm a pig. I always eat more than a healthy portion. The pasta wasn't cooked enough. People. Al dente. To the tooth. We overcook pasta in the US. That's why it runs our blood sugar up. The glycemic index goes up the more you cook it. Now you don't have to conform. You're welcome to ruin a good steak by cooking it well done and you're welcome to order your house made pasta cooked until it's floppy. (Insert me biting my fist and sobbing) That's on you but don't blame the kitchen for cooking good Italian American food the right way. Our candle wasn't lit. Wahhhhh. seriously? These are humans. They can forget. Just ask someone to light the candle and stop leaving ridiculous reviews on yelp that don't help people decide if the food is good. Now for our review: We were met by a young lady who was pleasant and seated us right away. Mind you it's lunch on a Sunday. By the time we left, there were just a couple vacant tables. Our server, Jonathon was very pleasant, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. My husband ordered the chicken Parmesan, but he tweaked it to his liking. He asked for his fettuccine to be served on the side rather than under the chicken. He also asked that the Marina still be on the chicken Parmesan, but that his pasta be tossed in an Alfredo - cream sauce. I ordered the spicy rigatoni with the breaded chicken cutlet. Pictures of both are below. The kitchen did forget his marinara sauce on his chicken but the server caught it as soon as he put the plate down and brought Mike a ramekin of marinara for his chicken. Both dishes were incredible. Everything was cooked perfectly. We chose not to stuff ourselves into oblivion so we asked her to go containers and we also got a piece of the cookies and cream cheesecake to go which I also included a picture of in the to go container so don't talk about how ugly the picture is, that's on me. They do serve focaccia bread with dinner. The server said the first order is on the house and after that you pay for subsequent orders. You can ask for focaccia with lunch, which we did not do because we were not aware until after we saw someone else getting theirs. As far as prices, people....we are in a post covid inflated era. This is house cooked, not bought precooked from Sysco and heated in a microwave. If you think you can cook this type of food cheaper at home, try it. I dare you. I cook. A lot and it costs a lot. Have you made a homemade cheesecake lately? No?why? Because it's expensive and a lot of trouble. I amke 1 every couple of months. I sell something to pay for it and gripe the entire time about how much trouble it is. Stop your belly aching about how much it costs and just go to Olive Garden and eat bread sticks and bottomless soup or salad. The restaraunt is cozy with white cloth table clothes that add a touch of elegance but it doesn't feel too froo-froo. We live an hour away from this place and we are excited about driving back. Keep in mind that we are old and don't like to drive anywhere and won't even drive into our town right here to get food. Don't pay any attention to the bad reviews. Those people either don't have good taste, are petty or they don't get out very often. read more

I ate here twice, and it did not meet expectations, especially for the price. Both the carbonara and the shrimp scampi were just ok, ironically enough the fettuccine with the scampi was a little undercooked, not quite al dente. Entree price should include a side salad imo. I was so excited for this place because pasta is my favorite food. However, I was disappointed. No alfredo. The dish I decided on they said they were out. I didn't like the chicken. The noodles and sauce were good. We got the big cheese stick and ate half of it and it was good but they kept trying to take it off the table even though we repeatedly told them we weren't finished with it. My husband was excited for eggplant Parmesan but they said that's a special and wasn't available that night. The atmosphere was tense and not laid back. Excellent dining experience. The ambience was perfect, the table clothes, cloth napkins and heavy dinnerware very nice. Service was friendly and professional. Finally, each and every dish, from salad to dessert, was house made and delicious. One could taste each ingredient and the portions way more than adequate. With most places these days being so casual that they're sloppy, it was a welcome change to have a "nice" place to dine. McComb is lucky to have such a superior Italian restaurant. Ive been multiple times! Started the night with an Italian Margarita, along with some calamari and shrimp. To die for! Then I had a Spicy Rigatoni Alla Vodka. So good! My boyfriend had a ribeye. It was cooked perfectly and so tasty. Everything I hoped for when I walked in. Service was unlike anything else I've seen in McComb. Everyone was so kind and attentive. Don't forget our nightcap of "Cheesecake of the week" Canoli Cheesecake! Thanks for the great experience and we will be back! The downside: Y'all, I really really really expected to enjoy my food, but I really didn't, neither the appetizer nor the entree. I guess I just ordered the wrong thing, but even at lunch, for $18.95 I would think there would be more than 4 shrimp in my shrimp scampi (I know, I know, but I really love shrimp‍) and, while I like my pasta al dente, my linguine was hard to chew and was difficult to eat. My husband's chicken scaloppini was delicious, but his linguine was like mine. I've had homemade pasta before, this was a tough chew. We went for Saturday night date night. The ambiance was great and the decor is very elegant (Christmas decorations were lovely). The restaurant was not crowded at all and servers were standing around near the kitchen area, but we weren't served drinks or bread timely. In fact, other parties who arrived after us were served before we were. The food was above average but not up to the level of expectations for the price and considering it is "authentic" Italian. The portions were average, maybe what we ordered was just served in smaller portions. Our server was attentive and kind but not familiar with the wine or drink menus. All in all, it was a nice evening-however, if I am paying 5-star prices I would expect to receive a 5-star meal. I would like to go again and try the lunch menu selections. read more

The food was okay at best... it came out room temperature and honestly the food quality did not match the prices. Also another thing was the portion sizes were inconsistent among my party, some of them got more and I got 4 bites worth of food. What a great surprise! Was visiting from out of town and came across this wonderful new place. I've eaten at other Italian places across the country and this ranks up there. I started with the meatballs and they did not disappoint. Pasta was fresh and homemade. The chicken parm was great and the red sauce was very flavorful. My fiance' and I visited the restaurant on a Saturday during lunch time. We stopped by when it was closed, but noticed someone going in and we inquired about their hours. We were informed that we needed to make reservation so "my man" did just that. ;) He booked reservations for 5:30 pm. When we arrived, we were greeted with a polite and smiling staff. We were shown to our table. The ambience was nice, white table clothes and navy napkins, upon the plate settings - modern elegance. It felt as if we were in a metropolis - open kitchen where the chef and servers were with reach as it seems. Shortly, Kylie took our drink order and then Hailey came to take our order. Both ladies were awesome; so welcoming and friendly and knowledgeable about the menu! Hailey informed us of the special which was the lobster pasta; that's what we ordered - SUPERB!!! My fiance' ordered the liquid cheesecake cocktail and it was so delicious! When we ordered dessert, they added a special note on the plate that stated "Congrats on Engagement" - what an exceptional gesture?!?! If I could this place a 10, I would because I was blown away at the service and food! Great customer service and delicious food are a scarcity, nowadays but this place understands its importance. Started out a great experience. We were very excited to eat here for the first time. The waitress was very nice and accommodating. Now let's get to the bad part. The food, I ordered the chicken marsala with linguine noodles and my husband ordered the carbonara. We got our food over a hour after ordering. Other tables that came in 20-30 minutes after us had already been served. Once I asked for an update on our food I was told they were plating it up. 10 more minutes passed and we finally got our food. Mine was a decent portion size but wasn't served with linguine noodles like I asked. My husband's serving size was an absolute joke. He literally had 6 bites of food on his plate. The thing that made me the most uncomfortable was the hostess. She stood at the podium the whole time we were eating just staring. One of the best dining experiences I've ever had. My sisters and I were there for the grand opening this past Friday. The place was packed!! Ambiance was perfect, love the open kitchen. Service was outstanding and the food was incredible. I ordered the stuffed shells and it was loaded with sausage and gooey cheese ....just delicious. My sister ordered the ribeye which was flavorful and cooked perfectly. We also had the Arancini and fried calamari, which were both fabulous. We shared Italian chopped salad. It was perfectly dressed and delicious as well. Eddie, the chef and owner is so charismatic! He welcomes everyone and treats everyone like family. This is an amazing place. What a great experience at Al Dente! Not sure what restaurant the other reviewers were at, definitely did not fit the place I visited. Fresh, quality food takes time and finer dining establishments don't rush a meal in my experience. Anyway, the food was delicious and the staff was accommodating and knowledgeable, recommending great wine pairings for our meal. We have high standards for Italian food and they were exceeded here at this gem of a restaurant. The ambiance was quite pleasant and felt cozy for a larger room. We highly recommend the rice balls, meatballs, calamari & shrimp, lasagna, rib eye steak, vodka sauce pasta with chicken and we also had a chef's special - lobster ravioli in a cream sauce that was divine if you can get it. I loved that we had a special that is not on the regular menu - it's indicative of fresh foods sourced and made into the specials of the day, it was like being in Italy! Fresh made pastas, cooked al dente - that is what it's like in Italy and my preference. We ended our meal with a delicious desert assortment including plain cheese cake, tiramisu and bananas foster - all lovely endings to our meal with cappuccino and espresso martinis! Yum!
