You see,our friend (who lives in the area) is always posting pics on facebook late at night showing the delights that this place has to offer. So over time you convince yourself that not only do you need a Shirley K in your life, you actively crave one! So imagine our delight upon disvovering that it was just accross the road from our hotel for the evening...result! So festivities and alcohol out of the way we made our way staggeringly for a kebab, and we weren't dissapointed. Ange had a donner on naan with mild sauce, and I went for a chicken on naan with chili sauce. Both were really lovely, although I had eyes bigger than my belly and couldn't eat it all. Nevermind though because it made the journey home with us,and you'll be no doubt thrilled to know that it reheated really nicely! We weren't in Shirley very long,so I don't know what it has to offer (Apart from members of Morgue Orgy living there),but it has a good Kebab house, and at the end of the day that's what life is all about really : )

German Doner Kebab - Doner Kebab Sandwich and Chips

This is their first restaurant in the UK, with many in parts of the middle east and Sweden they are set to open up in London too. The restaurant does have seating, but not much, so you're better off taking away, I walked from the JQ to pick up one and back and it was still warm and worth the wait (It was torture to not be able to eat it though). Now, you need to get the british idea of a greasy doner kebab out of your head as this is NOT one of the. You can be stone cold sober to enjoy these as there is little grease and lots of flavour. In fact, each doner kebab sandwich has just 344 calories, yep that's all! This is because the meat is good quality and not full of fat to bulk it up. You can have it as a meal with chips and a drink and the kebab can come with salad, sauces and cheese and it can be veal, chicken or mixed. Definitely give this a try as an alternative to your usual fast food that's also healthy!

I've always been suspicious of the 'elephants foot' aka the doner kebab you see rotating in chippies and cheap pizza joints. However, I was told that this isn't your typical kebab house. There's no miscellaneous 'doner' meat here, but a choice between beef or chicken. Not greasy and salad that wasn't slimy, my mind was blown. The quality of the food here was actually good! A little more expensive than your usual kebab joints, a meal including a drink costs around £7. There is extra seating upstairs and even a toilet! Here you're definitely paying for better quality food which in turn a better level of clientele (cough cough - Big Johns). Worth a visit if you like decent Kebabs that's don't make you feel like death the next morning and a great addition to the city centre.!

The shop in itself is well decorated with a chrome and red style frontage and interior. Toilets are available in this kebab house however they are rarely functional. King Kebab has adequate seating, beating all of their rivals on this front. The décor is pleasant and looks very clean. The facilities behind the counter also look very clean and hygienic. The food is cheap and I would recommend the chicken kebab over anything else, it is King Kebab's specialty. The bread is soft; the meat is well marinated and is not too dry. They also sell everything else you would expect at a kebab shop and they do these varieties pretty well. They offer a wide range of sauces to smother your kebab in. I would recommend King Kebab for all kebab connoisseurs out there, not to be missed.

Sorry not sorry! This place has it all. Good saveloys (as previously mentioned I am a bit of a conesur) amazing fish and chips as well as freshly cooked indian food like chicken tikka in naan or masala fish. I am a huge fan of the freshly cooked stuff and it s really worth the wait for it to be made. My tip is let the lads on the counter know when you walk in what you are having then while you queue its being made....lovely. I have to start a new paragraph just for the chilli sauce here. I love the stuff! Its just right in terms of flavour to the point where I dont miss the heat. As far as I am concerned if you dont have chilli and mayo on whatever you are having from here you are not doing it right ;) The name sums this place up really....it's not Price Kebab is it! 5*

Fortunately, Kebab Land is always on hand to sort me out. If you turn left onto Dawlish Road having left the Bristol Road, you can't miss the bright green exterior. Compared to the silent vigil of the staff at Big John's and Adam's Place, the staff are always talkative and genuinely friendly. I genuinely feel that I WILL have a good night after I have received their blessing as I saunter off back home. Prices are as competitive and as cheap as everywhere else on the strip, but Kebab Land's advantage is the quality of its food:The majority of people I know are always put off by the idea of a kebab and feel that it may contain mystery meat or that it just "looks dirty", but Kebab Land seems to defy all these naysayers. Indeed, post-kebab shame is a common feeling following a gorging of my own, but Kebab Land's delicious food combined with relatively little grease removes (or at least minimises) the takeaway regret entirely. Compared to other eateries, where chips can be a bit hit and miss, Kebab Land's fries are always hot and are delicious. They're always more than happy to give you a generous serving of sauce with your meal, too. Can't be bothered to stagger down the road? Just give them a call and get a little piece of heaven delivered to your door.

However, if you are in the mood for some fast food but would like to go a little up market then Kebab Land is maybe your best bet when in Selly Oak. It serves the usual favourites but with less grease and a bit more attention to culinary excellence, plus a few health orientated options such as wraps. The pay off of this is that you have to pay a bit more and maybe wait a little longer, though this last one isn't really much of a problem as Kebab Land is a nice clean place with a good atmosphere. In conclusion, Kebab Land is probably the best place in Selly Oak to buy a kebab. The little extra you pay there is definitely worth it for the jump in quality.
