I was disappointed in our visit today. I called weeks ago to ask if we could make a reservation for a party of 10. I was assured that it wouldn't be a problem. We called the day before to confirm numbers. When we showed up today, they had us seated at 3 different tables. It was never mentioned we couldn't sit together (even though they had longer tables available.) Someone in my party ordered a beer. They said they didn't serve alcohol, even though the front of the menu proudly stated they had alcohol available. I ordered my sandwich. The waitress asked what side I wanted with it. I told her the menu clearly stated sandwiches were à la carte and didn't come with sides. She pointed to her electronic pad and said it was asking what side I wanted so it must come with it, so I ordered a side. Guess what? I was charged for my side. I didn't want to make waves so I just paid for it, but three strikes and you're out. Food was okay, fries were pretty salty, but the aforementioned items made it an overall disappointing visit. read more

Great place to eat!!! Great food, great staff, and great environment! Avoid the iHop kitty corner of AK's unless you enjoy cold, over-priced food, terrible service, and insane prices... And for some reason, it smells like cigarette smoke... Oh, and ignore the review from "Roger"....his wife let slip to the public that her d!CK is bigger than his and he's been throwing alcohol-fueled rants left and right to make himself feel better. read more

Amanda - It certainly sounds as if you are trying to downplay the entire incident. You and I both know you are trying to make everything look like lollipops and rainbows for the general public. That way you can avoid the real issue. The food you describe definitely sounds great, but that's not what we were served. Only four people know exactly what was served: the chef, the waitress, and the customers. When we go to a professional establishment, we expect a professional product. As a professional cook, I would have been embarrassed to let that food leave the kitchen. As a professional waitress, I would have been embarrassed to serve that food. I am not interested in what your "team" told you. YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT WAS SERVED! Why wasn't there any concern while we were there? We voiced our concerns at that time, both to the waitress and the cashier. We paid for a lousy meal. If we wanted a bad meal, we could have eaten at home, with me as the cook. Getting down to basics, how about we tackle the issues one at a time. The hashbrowns were NOT golden-brown as you have described. They were a hard, crusty, very dark-brown...even black. You folks can cook decent hashbrowns. I know, because I have had them before. The toast was definitely over-toasted. The slices were also very dark-brown...to the point of being burned. Again, I have had good toast there. What happened? The eggs were "okay". The ham came out nicely. The salad was wilted and not tasty at all. The baked potato was mushy and lacking the nice white texture. I don't remember having had shrimp that bad ANYWHERE. And I am in my 70s. I ate the toast. But only after I piled on as much strawberry jam as I could. I ate some of the hashbrowns. But only after I piled on A LOT of butter. My wife ate some of the salad, but was not happy at all with it. She tried some shrimp, but was even more disappointed in that. She wasn't interested in even trying the baked potato. We finally decided we had put up with enough, paid our bill, and left. Management doesn't decide whether a customer was served a good meal...the customer decides that. You can try to "explain" to me whatever you want to about that meal. But that won't sway my viewpoint...I was there!! read more

The food here was amazing. I ordered the eggs Benedict and was surprised hash browns didn't come with the meal and I had to order them on the side, but when the food arrived I realized the portion sizes were huge! Regardless, I ordered the hash browns with cheese and jalapeños and it was great. I also ordered a cinnamon roll iced late which was surprisingly delicious. You know how you go to a breakfast joint and order a coffee and it just tastes like a disappointing chocolate milk? That's certainly not the case here. My husband ordered a peanut butter iced latte and that was very good too, he said his firehouse wrap was delicious. They play good music here too and the service was great. We will definitely be back read more

The food is always good here and the staff is friendly, but my now husband has been a regular here for a long time. My mom is now a regular too since she moved to the area as well. The sound can be a little loud. Other breakfast options in town are not worth it. I sometimes do need a change and go to the buffet at Miller's. read more

This was a great breakfast stop in small town Algona. The service was a bit slow, but I'm pretty sure they only had two servers for the whole place and take-out orders. I'm not a breakfast person, so I was happy to see that the entire menu was available. I got a delicious burger with a fried egg and bacon on top, with a salad on the side. It was very good. My family's breakfast items were great too. Everyone loved the bacon and their crushed ice in the drinks. We'd come back! read more

Just turned out to be a very good breakfast restaurant, I had chicken fried steak with eggs and pancakes and it was a lot of food and very good. Would definitely eat there again if I was in the area. read more

I have been to AK's a couple of times now with my partner and each time we both enjoyed our food. The food is straight forward midwestern Americana diner fare. A lot of sandwiches and breakfast classics with good portions. The only negative was that the coffee was weak. The building is nice and open when you walk in. Seat yourself and each time someone promptly arrive at your table to greet you with menus. The staff has always been courteous and attentive. I will definitely return to AK's and will update the review with some pictures. read more

I had a delicious omelet for breakfast. Friendly service. Lots of latte flavors and cheesecake too.

Coffee Coffee and more delicious Coffee. I had 2 slices of homemade French toast with side of bacon Hubby had UH-OH5 OMG both were EXCELLENT. Our waitress was super on the spot. A group of Good 'Ol Boys sat at a table by us -- made me think of my brother -- he would have fit right in. read more

We came for breakfast and it was like coming home. Staff was very welcoming, food was delicious. My husband and I have missed our favorite breakfast "Chrome Deluxe Omelette ". Oh my yummy!! Also had a incredible HUGE pancake as a side. So happy you are back open. read more

AK's Chrome Kitchen - Chrome Deluxe Omelette, pancakes. - Caterers Near Me - Algona, Iowa

I wasn't a fan at their old location but thought I'd give the new one a try.The menu has a lot to offer. Nice variety. The Reuben was delicious. Real corned beef, lots of cheese, nice marbled bread. The asparagus fan said the asparagus fries were very good. Tenderloin meat was nice, thick enough to have flavor and was tender, no grissel and the breading is light and crunchy. It has the potential to be an excellent sandwich. Unfortunately, it also came with a nasty dirty oil taste. The onion rings also have the same taste plus they oozed grease, rendering them inedible. Service was pretty bad, also. To be fair, they were very busy. And they were polite. read more

I've loved going to this place growing up and was so happy that the food stayed the same after they changed locations. They have the best hot chocolate, pancakes, and good portion sizes! The only thing is it if very dark inside. Best breakfast in Algona! read more
