Turns out I configured my backups wrong, and left out the mess of documents on my desktop. Ugh! Yesterday, I contacted Glen at Alaska Computer Guy. He had me bring my computer in at 9:00 a.m. this morning. An hour later, he texted that my hard drive was dying, but he thought he could recover my desktop files. I was really relieved. By 3:00 p.m., he was done. He had recovered the files, and copied them to the thumb drive I gave him. I had everything back home by dinner. I was really happy with Alaska Computer Guy's work, and found it cost far less than I feared (data recovery can be expensive.) I hope to never need this kind of help again, but if this or something else comes up, I'll definitely be contacting Alaska Computer Guy again.

(This was after an attempt with a visit to Pyramid computer service only to find out the hours posted are not the hours followed. Not a good way to run a business.) An appointment was set up with Glen, (the Alaska Computer Guy) to drop off the computer and the computer was fixed and done the following day. Sweet! Seriously though, these Verizon contractors are way better at fixing things than Verizon themselves. I talked with a Verizon rep for 5 hours online, trying to activate an e-SIM. I had to go to the Dimind Center Mall to get a watch, I was there 3 days later than the promotion ran and as told they would still honor the promotion because the Tudor Verizon was full of incompetent people from the ground up who weren't capable of doing their job properly. The store employee and or regional Manager never refunded me for routers and now I'm dealing with that on my bill. NEVER use this store go to a real Verizon store. These people are horrible. The regional Manager is a rude individual who needs some schooling on customer service.
