The first night we got take out Thai food from a restaurant on the strip, and the next night we went out for dinner at the rock cod cafe and it was incredible (get the caeser). The only suggestions are to put bath soap or body wash in the bathrooms (there was shampoo and conditioner but no soap) and to provide additional towels, as we ran out. The island is compact and friendly; it's customary for everyone to wave as cars pass on the narrow island roads. Saturna Lodge is especially nice. Innkeeper Laura Swan offers great advice for getting around the island and seeing the highlights, as well as practical advice like where to get coffee before you catch the ferry. Surprisingly, few of my Olympic Peninsula friends can even find the island on a map. Too bad for them-- it just means less competition for me for a room at the lodge next time I visit.

However what made the night poor was the strange lady who owned the place, she kept walking past our table(on a very nice deck) to go and smoke just outside the entrance. The wind was blowing in our direction so the smell was very strong. I also got the impression that her staff did not enjoy her being there as they acted very tense and, well strange whenever she was around. We had a salad that was called a 'saturna' salad but tasted like a costco boxed salad, very bland with old lettuce. All in all I think the evening may have been more pleasant had they invested in higher quality foods and had the strange lady not been around. The Cafè on saturna was much better in terms of both cost, food, and atmosphere. I was there early in the year and maybe the quality improved but I won't be going back.

David (who has checked us in each time) is the best! Their motel rooms are quite comfortable, rustically stylish, and come with a Nespresso coffee maker (and plenty of pods), mini-fridge, a smart TV, and triple-sheeted duvets. The breakfast pastries and dinner offerings at the on-site restaurant are delightful too. I recommend making resos far in advance since they book up quickly for summer weekends. Leave the rat race behind for a weekend or a week--or more--and settle in for a relaxing stay.

The airstream was very comfortable. Nice queen bed. Own shower and bathroom. Hot water. Wifi. Cable. Amazon firebox. Kitchen with microwave and gas stove. Cutlery, pots and pans. Outside you have your own fire pit, 2 person hot tub whirling away and just waiting for you. A bbq set and lawn chairs and a huge umbrella to shade you. A huge hammock for those afternoon book readings. i mean, What more can you ask for? Air-streaming doesn't get any better than this! And the best part...the staff are so nice and accommodating. They'll give a quick orientation on what to do etc and if you need anything, they are a txt msg away. Yet, you are surrounded by nature and a lush flora. Around the property there are countless trails and everything is within a 5-10-15 min drive. There are cafes close by, farms, a bc liquor store, bookstore, restaurants, etc. everything is opening up now. Please go and support local and your backyard. Super easy to book and confirm. Comfortable main living/dining space for all guests use. Nice views of Salish Sea from front (garden view from guest rooms), easy parking for car (must have car for this area). Guests can use small space in frig for left-overs or bottle of wine. I found the TV control to be a bit confusing but OK for short stay use. PLEASE Stay HERE MORE than one night...there is so much to see and experience in the area. I arrived on Vancouver Island via FERRY, on foot, from West Vancouver-Horseshoe Bay...used the 257 express Bus from downtown Vancouver CITY (very easy-peasy). Lucky I had a friend to meet me, take to my rental car at Nanaimo Airport. I spent seven nights at Eagle B&B...using rental car from Nanaimo Airport (where I flew out of) Used for: -SOUTH: day trip to Victoria in the south, winery and ciderys two day trip... -NORTH: Goats, Coombs, and Qualicum Bay to the north. -A daytrip in Nanaimo via Cedar Rd. I visited all the WONDERFUL local Museums: Chemainus (friendly--small), Nanaimo (REALLY good), LadySmith (exceptional for a small town)--it shows the history of the area (coal and timber).

I booked a reservation here for two…read morenights through expedia and got a great deal, also the cancellation policy offered through Eagle Rock B&b is second to none, you don't have to worry if your plans change. Upon arrival at the residence we were greeted by the owner (Jim) who was very proffesional and nice, he showed us all the amenities of the house and how to get in and out, it was really quick and easy. We reserved the "Repertoire" room which has a king bed and a very nice personal bathroom. Everything was nice and clean, the bed was incredibly comfortable, my girlfriend and I both sleep great both nights we stayed here. Breakfast in the morning was top notch! Jim makes it really easy to order what you want, he sent us an email before we arrived asking what we would like, and what time we would like to eat. The first morning I had ham and cheese stuffed french toast (soooo good), and the second morning I had eggs benedict (yummy). Both of the meals were exceptional, and hands down some of the best breakfast meals I've ever been served. I wish we could have stayed longer to try the other items that are available! In addition to the great bedroom and delicious breakfast, the house is also really nice. I had a great cup of coffee in the morning and a nice glass of wine at night sitting in the window seats in the living room. The view is so nice, overlooking the strait of Georgia you can see mountains, the water, and sailboats passing by. The beach is an easy 1 minute walk away! The owners professionalism and courteous can't be forgotten, it's what really made the stay here at Eagle Rock B&B so special. Jim is so easy to talk to and really has a great personality. My wife and I stayed at the Duncan Motel for 6 nights while we were exploring the area…read more The motel is about a block from the Trans Canada highway and conveniently located near the library, downtown, restaurants, and coffee houses. The photos of rooms may have been taken a few years ago when the motel was given a modern vibe makeover. The modern touches are still nice though there has been some wear. The room we stayed in is considered a deluxe and comes with a big TV, microwave, coffee maker, AC, and a small refridgerator with tiny freezer.  Our small room had a comfy bed with bedside lights and outlets for charging devices. Wifi is good.  There is a small table with two chairs in the room for reading or breakfast though the weather was so nice we often sat at the table outside our unit. The shower is a joy! It is a spacious walk in with a large window for light and plenty of hot water. Towels, soap, shampoo, and lotion are provided. The motel has a laundry area that is open 8am-8pm.  The Duncan Motel is in a quiet area transitioning into an area with more apartment buildings. No, it's not the best neighborhood, but is safe and very walkable. The manager closes the big gate at the entry from 11pm-5am to add further security. Staff are super friendly and helpful and we have met some other very nice young and older guests. I definitely recommend the Duncan Motel for your next Cowichan Valley stay.
