We tried this place on the advice of a friend. The food was excellent! They bake their own bread and it was delicious. I had the meatball sub on a braided roll. The sauce was great, the bread was awesome. The meatballs had great flavor and texture EXCEPT... too much pepper. It really was too bad...the sandwich was so good but I couldn't eat more than 1/2, it was too hot. I"m sensitive to pepper...but my husband thought it had a bit too much pepper also. He loved his sub, the Buffalo chicken. I did not try his (for obvious reasons!) We're going to try the pizza next. read more

We've never had a problem here before but this time the chicken in the salad was raw. However the other items in our order seems ok but when your chicken tip salad's chicken is raw, pink, and slimey, it's hard to eat the rest of your order. Beware! I will give AJ's one more shot. read more

Cant go wrong best sub shop in wilmington its my go to everytime and staff is very nice from pizza to salad cant go wrong!

This review is based on the service we received earlier. We were made to feel VERY uncomfortable from the first encounter with the cashier girl w glasses until we left. I felt as if they did not want us to dine in. We never been here before. We are not regulars. We decided to come based on watching the Phantom Gourmet. Wow, what a mistake. We began to place our order and was given the option to eat in or take out. We wanted to eat in. It seemed like a big deal to the cashier girl since they had already put the chairs up on the tables and she pointed that out to us. In addition, she just had to inform us that they close at 9 when I told her that we wanted to eat there. I asked her the time and she told me that it was 8:15. Um, 45 minutes.... I told her we just want to eat, and not sit around all night. I ordered a calzone, my friend ordered a sub. I was informed by cashier girl that the calzone will take some time to cook. I didn't know how to take that as if since the clock was ticking would it give us even less time to sit down to eat? Or was she discouraging me to not order a calzone at 8:15 at night? Whatever the reason, we felt very unwelcome. She did say that it will take longer to cook than a sub so my friend would prob get his meal first. When the meals arrived, my calzone came first. Assuming they forgot his sub since we were told it would be out first he said I ordered a sub too. Another female who brought mine out told him she only has two hands! Rude Rude Rude. I really wanted to love this place as I have seen on their web page that the owner (who couldn't have been on scene tonight ) is compassionate towards people with Autism. I have a sibling with Autism and I support businesses that care about Autism. Sadly we might not come back. read more

Tried this place on a recommendation from a friend. Good eats, good prices, fresh food, nice people. It's now once of our go-to places for pizza, a sub or a good sandwich! read more

I have been living in Wilmington for 6 months and I was watching the Phantom Gourmet and they were talking about AJ's Kitchen and were surprised that it was in Wilmington. We ordered take out from there that night are were hooked. I had the Italian cold-cut sub, which I don't even like Italian cold-cut subs, and it was as good as it looked on the Phantom. Eric had the chicken parm calzone, which they brush with garlic butter after they take it out of the oven. They also bake their own bread fresh daily. They also sell their homemade sauce jarrred to take home. Pizza is also good got a pepperoni and a buffalo chicken, which was the best. They only do takeout but they do deliver. Great place for takeout or catering. read more

Pizza is crap. Service is worse. I don't care if you've been on the Phantom Gourmet. When I come in to place or pick up an order in this economy, I want service. I don't want to wait 5 minutes before anyone acknowledges me. read more

The sub rolls are not fresh. He buys them par baked and freezes them. Then he bakes them off and tells everybody he makes his own bread. He bakes it off in a pizza oven which is not how you make bread. It shouldn't be cooked at the same temp of the pizza because it drys out by night time. The sub we got fell apart. Besides that I got a chicken finger dinner and salad which was the worst I've ever had. I never give one star unless you really deserve it and these guys do. Go somewhere else. I'm doing you a huge favor. read more

Awesome calzones & service! Came for the first time for dinner and ordered a large chicken parm & large steak and cheese calzone. Little did we know the large calzones are TWO FEET LONG!! The bread was fresh and homemade, and the calzones were delicious. Definitely not the closest pizza place to my house but will be my go-to place for pizza/calzones from now on. Looking forward to trying other items on the menu soon! read more

I work in the Wilmington area and frequently order from here for lunch. I have never had a bad food option from this place. I have ordered pizza, salad subs, steak tips and calzone. One of my favorites the bread is made in house and perfectly cooked. I would highly recommend this to anyone in the Wilmington area. read more

They make their own rolls which makes most their subs great. Best steak and cheese in the area. Great Italian subs. Great meatball subs. Good pizza read more

Aj's Kitchen only has a couple tables for dine in and is mainly a take-out place. For the area they have some of the better pizza and calzones. Their pizza is a little above average. The main show for Aj's in my opinion is their calzone. They offer a 2 foot calzone for a decent price that is actually quite good. If you are entertaining a large group of people then AJ's is a fiscally good and tasty option read more

For a Sub Shop you don't get any better than this. When you make your own bread you do everything else right. Meatball subs are amazing. Good pizza. Very good sauce. I've had a few of the specialty subs and they have all been good. Pricing is very reasonable as well. read more

The calzones are amazing and they have a great work staff in a very cool environment for kids to witness. We travel from Winchester at least once or twice a week for the 2 foot calzones. And we lways get great feedback from our friends when we bering these calzones over to watch the game on Sunday! Never had the pizza but it is fun to watch them toss around the pie in the air! read more

Ordered a couple pizzas from here about a week ago. The dough/crust was perfect! Hands down the best pizza place in the area!

I drive by A.J.'s on the way to work everyday and wondered how there stuff was. I then saw them on the Phantom Gourmet and decided to give them a shot for a tray of chicken parm and eggplant parm for Christmas eve. I was very happy as well as my guests. Both were delic! read more

The best pizza in town! Sub rolls made fresh! I have never had a bad meal there and have been getting food there since we moved to the town 2 years ago Great staff. Amy at the counter is so friendly!!! read more

Great prices for lunch sandwiches. I really like their eggplant and chicken parm subs, and they have a Godfather challenge to eat a 5 lb calzone if you're into that sort of thing. read more

The only time that I ever tossed away FOOD in total disgust this past Saturday night at 7 pm (placed the order at 5:55 pm-we live very close in Woburn). I wanted to take a few days before I thought out why I am totally down on this dump. Here is my Buyer Beware Story-My wife called and spoke with someone (I was in the room with her) where she knows my order as I only like Steak subs without CHEESE. My sub was steak, mushroom and peppers, no CHEESE or OIL The rest of the order was a small fry, onion ring and a meatball sub with sauce. What my wife picked up (she did not see cheese written on my sub) was utter SLOP! I opened up the sub that had a GOO like substance on top of what looked like meat, with red something or other on the sides for this brown ozz looking CRAP. I sometimes will take a bite of this type of incorrect order over the years, because it might be good-I was too tired to bring back. I took ONE bite and immediately SPAT it out, what a mound of CRAP, that I crumpled up into a ball that was soken with ozzing grease and what ever else passing off by this place for food. The fries were okay, onion rings sub par, and the meat ball sub? Like eating a piece of unfrozen meat, fried with a crust or harden surface on the outside, with a soft portion of lack luster no taste substance on the inside-basically CRAP again. My wife actually ate this sub. But, we both agreed the sauce or presentation of a fresh sub rolls loses any credibility for a second chance or cold sub buy option from this DUMP. I might TRY MY fourth place up here since I moved 4 months ago from Greater Boston-Medford, Malden and Everett. I would not even attempt an order of pizza FROM this place, when they screwed up my SIMPLE request for an order. I now wonder from this experience how did they get a review by the Phantom Gourmet with the SLOP passed off to us this past Saturday night?. Also, I have only driven by this crap business since I moved, it seems having a few tables, they maybe paid someone to review this SLOP SHOP. Also, in my opinion, most reputable businesses (without customer issues) would list an email address under their contacts on their website. Here is my evaluation from the PHANTOM Customer (BEING sarcastic-my personal Face Book page ID was used for this YELP Review)- if I could give a rating of negative or zero, it would apply for this POOR excuse for a pizza and sub joint. I hope that I never again have to toss away food from any reputable (unlike this CRAP SHOP) food business again. However, AJS Kitchen your poor service, QC and lack of attention to detail warrants my first EVER YELP review of a food establishment. I now after a few bad experiences up here since my move only buy food from franchise operations-very sad now, because I want any and all my small business partners to earn my loyalty with quality products and services-you failed this past Saturday night, from what you tried to pass off to me as food. The first time that I EVER tossed away food from a take out business. read more

Tied with Peters for best local pizza delivery place. Staff is also friendly. Little small for dine in.

Saw AJ's Kitchen on Phantom Gourmet yesterday and was excited to give them my business. I'm willing to drive a fair distance for good food from a family owned business. I attempted to call in a take out order at 4pm (well ahead of dinner time) of just two items, a calzone and an Italian sub. The girl who answered the phone quizzed me as to what I'd be ordering, then tells me they "aren't making calzones today" and that if I wanted a pizza it would be at least a two hour wait. But they could make my Italian sub. When I asked why they weren't making calzone, the girl became rude and said we're just not taking calzone orders today. I thanked her and said never mind and hung up. I had high hopes for AJ's to become a new favorite, but they basically refused my business. A new customer turned away. They lost more than the revenue from my order, they lost their one opportunity to make a great first impression. Imagine, the day after being featured on Phantom Gourmet - a show designed to generate business for great restaurants - and they turn someone away. I can only assume they were poorly prepared for the volume of business they had today. Shame on them, they could have better prepared ahead of time. At the very minimum the person on the phone could have handled it better, with more empathy and a reasonable explanation. Even letting the phone ring to a voicemail with an apologetic message saying they weren't taking any more orders for the day would have been fine. Thank god I called first and didn't just drive up to Wilmington only to be turned away. I will be avoiding this place, and encourage other to do the same. Very disappointed to say the least. read more
