Delightful. That is the one word to describe the experience of eating and drinking at Uni Boom…read moreBoom. I have been reading about this place for quite a while, but it is not conveniently located and the hours it is open are not particularly convenient either (I lived in L.A. for a long time, everything is alway open and its tough getting used to 3 - 5 p.m. closures), but I will go out of my way for quality food, and quality is what I kept hearing about Uni Boom Boom, and I'm so glad I made the effort. Yes, it is completely as described, in an industrial area next to a roll up garage, and yes, they have done a great job of the interior of this cafe - it does have a cafe vibe, but is done well, certainly not over the top on decor. Food and presentation is another thing. I love it when restaurants with unusual dishes offer a tasting plate, and that is what I ordered - it offered a Lychee Edible Nest Drink, which is one of the things I really wanted to try, and it was delicious and cold and served in the most gorgeous little pineapple shaped cup. They also included their foie Gras dish, also superb. Australian Uni, also very good. Braised Abalone which was tasty but more whole than braised and a small salmon sushi bite, which could have had more salmon, and way too much rice, but fabulous taste and texture ! I actually took some salmon sashimi home - the absolute best I have had in Melbourne, and thoughtfully packed with ice. I also tried their uni and salmon cones, which were very good. I also had the Peach Gum tea which was delicious, and what I loved about it was that they asked what level of sugar you wanted added. You could also have it hot or cold and choose how cold. I love drinks extra cold, and this did not disappoint. It was also served in a larger version of the pineapple cup. There is a choice of 3 deserts, all containing the Bird's Nest prosperities. The ice cream was tempting, but I went for the macaroons which also came with the birds nest tea in a clear container, shaped like a bird ! and a spoon that was heart shaped ! just delightful ! Definitely coming back and committing to a full portion of so many other wonderful things offered, especially the sashimi which looked fresh, thick and oh so tasty on a couple of the other tables. Definitely worth the drive and fitting in with their operating hours !

Inside you'll find sea urchin and edible bird's nest, two of the top 10 most expensive ingredients in the world. The exterior of The Roe can be deceptive. Customers have said they thought it's a normal warehouse walking past everyday until they heard music or chatter, walked in and realised it's a private restaurant that specialize in Sea Urchin and edible bird's nest. We wants to find the balance between keeping the metal, quirky character of the warehouse and making it comfortable. The light-filled space has been fitted with informative posters of edible bird's nest and sea urchin, acting as a experience cafe for crafting experimental sea urchin dishes. The Roe specialized in sea urchin and edible bird's nest, sourcing the ingredients from its mother companies, Pacific Sea Urchin and Sen Lin Tang (AUS) Pty Ltd. We loosely revolves around Japanese and Chinese cuisines. The menu is inspired to allow customers to enjoy Australian Sea Urchin and edible bird's nest at a relatively affordable price.

It has the reputation of being the best place to get sushi in Australia. When I first heard about Shiranui, I was told to go for the Omakase. The next dozen people told me the same thing. I don't eat seafood though, so I put it off. If you don't know, Omakase is where the chef decides what he's serving to you. Anyway, long story short, I ended up going after being persuaded by my lovely wife. I can tell you that it's quite an experience. While I sat quietly, enjoying my chicken dish (the name of which escapes me, but it was quite nice and fresh), my wife was treated to a series of beautifully presented (and judging by the reaction of my better half, beautifully tasting) dishes. It's a nice place, the service is pretty good and the food is tasty. I will be going back there.

You will also be guided on how to eat your sushi by the servers and chef directing you to "NO SOY SAUCE" or "Yes soy sauce". They offer a lunch menu and two sitting dinner menu's. Lunch: $25 and under -Chirashi bowl: Very juicy fresh fish with sushi rice on the bottom, miso soup, entree fish, chawanmushi (steamed egg). -Braised pork with rice: huge dish with miso. Meat was tender and very fragrant. Dinner: Dinner is more expensive and there are two sittings. It is important to book in advance. You can go with the al a carte or Omakase (sit on the bench and the chef chooses what to serve you). I have had each option several times and I suggest trying the Omakase first that way you can experience different types of sushi. One you know what you like, it may be more reasonable for your wallet to not have omakase. Must haves for me each time: seared salmon sushi, kingfish, yakuniku beef, sashimi platter, and of course the OYSTER- this is a must have and cost $4.5 each last time I went but so worth it. There is no fishyness to the oyster and it is in a sushi form topped of with something like kewpie mayo or cheese. AMAZING! Please give this a go and if you aren't into sushi/sashimi there are many other options such as grilled fish, rice, noodles and even a juicy steak.

05/02/2016 - visit #6.. so I find myself back here (not to my own accord mind you)!! anyhooo to the…read morefood... venue... so what's changed? 1st... The price has gone up to $40 pax. As expected from when they first opened. No way they can sustain this. 2nd have noticed a few waitresses responding to customers with "hei".. not sure why as the place is PRC ran and is all chinese! 3rd.. The salmon portions are TINY!! see my pics! Compared to when they first opened... meeeeh.. thinner n smaller than your thumb. But still nice to eat. 4. The seafood tempura!!! this has improved alooot! Generous serving and the batter is really good!! Crisp light and not thick n doughy! 5. The roll sizes have shrunk as well. but still gd to eat. 6. The sesame n green tea ice cream is now back to what it once was. Not the watered down flavouring!! Red bean pancake this time round was poor. Dripping with oil! 7. Service is more attentive now as it appears there's more wait staff on floor. 8. No more breaded oysters!!!! No longer available. 9. The beef??? meeeh. U can give that a miss! Tossed in oil and chewy! Is it really scotch? The beef tataki is still alright. 10. Oh the barramundi!!! HAHA it's cold! Tastes ok but what are they thinking?? Anyway... 2 good 8 bad... take it for what it is.. go in with no expectations and you'll love it.. whereas I have been here since the day they opened and have high expectations due to the benchmark they have set at the start. *** 27/06 - visit #5 finally experienced what some have expressed concerns over!! have reduced my rating from 5 to 1 star!! YMMV!! Had a booking for 10pax... my birthday celebration !! first sitting. Must b out within 2 hrs. by now I already know the menu off by heart!! and know the drill. With such a big grp we ordered early and ALOT!! it's ALL YOU CAN EAT! Right? WROOOOOOOONG!! food came out reaaally slow and they limited our food!!! yes!! they did. I asked several times where was our 3rd & 4th order of sashimi?? it never came!!! Nor did the beef steak or additional servings of spider rolls, tempura etc!! waved the waiter over more than 3 times. Looking at the time we only had half an he left and we weren't even full!!! they tried to give us our deserts before our backlogged orders! Had already told hen we were still waiting on food to arrive. Sent the desert back. To appease us 2 dishes came out but not the salmon sashimi. before we knew it the bill was on the table and desert was being brought out. I was willing to let it go until we went to the front counter and saw the sashimi already prepped and ready to be served!! This PISSED ME OFF!!! the poor kid at cashier got an earful! I asked to spk to the owner / mgr. Kid asked why. Told him that they need to change their signage it is NOT all u can eat!! we were still hungry!! Was happy to let the bad service / experience go as the place was busy but when I saw the sashimi there in the refrigerated counter I lost it!!! I told he kid that that cannot restrict food if it's all u can eat!! Especially if there is a 2hr policy!! I won't go into too much detail of my remaining remarks and I hope all that was waiting in line heard what I was saying!! PRESS for more service!! and insist that all ur orders are fulfilled!!! DONT LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT!!! "*** 01/05/15 - visit #4 they've improved on quite a lot of their dishes since my previous visit. salmon sashimi! Soooooo gd!!! The cuts n quality are much better!! teri steak was a bit tough this time tho. *** Try this place out before they go broke!!! Fish is of quality and the variety is enough to sustain ur interest for at least a few hrs. Stick to the BMI!! Buffet Maximised Index... Go for repeats of the most expensive and avoid as much as possible the carbs to minimise the effect of feeling full. ie. Go crazy on the sashimi and minimise rice intake. Avoid high salt content foods eg. gyoza as that will make u drink more... therefore inhibits ur ability to fully execute the BMI. If u have and I reckon u should.. order use the salmon sashimi to wrap around the Las Vegas or Spider Rolls... it's da bees knees!! obviously avoid the noodles and fried rice

Well, I probably should have read the reviews but my friends organised this night out so I blindly…read morefollowed. But I concur with comments here. Basically where there's smoke there's fire. A deal like this means something is sacrificed. They run the place like a cattle farm, shipping people in and out on their schedule, doing it how it suits them. We arrived early for our reservation not realising it was a restricted seating time and they made no attempt to accommodate. We weren't even offered drinks while waiting 30mins, and that's just bad business seeing as it's additional revenue. We ordered a lot at the start but loads of things never came at all or we had to repeatedly ask. My drink took 4 requests. They ran out of all but one dessert (pre served and stored ice cream) and when we requested another after the mains were finished it was refused because the kitchen was closed and scooping some ice cream was a burden too much for staff. They weren't rude. They just don't care. A like it or lump it attitude with zero attempt at remotely reasonable customer service. Even the manager has disdain for the people paying his wages. As for the food, it's adequate. It's not bad but it's not good. The salmon sashimi is just barely passable. The beef is low quality. We ate a lot, which is truly the only reason to come. It's not for quality food, a good atmosphere or service. Just shove in as much as you can in your allocated time and you might not begrudge paying your $40/head.
