If you are trying to ruin your life, I recommend coming to this barbershop. Located in Little Italy, just walking distance from UIC, is a shop which hires people who have no experience (the barber that cut my hair said 6 months) and charges high prices for low quality service. The vibe is very unprofessional, with barbers vaping while cutting hair or stopping mid cut to eat. And if you have a membership, there are times where the membership is not compatible with some barbers present, so not only do you pay for the membership which is supposed to cover the cost of the cut - you end up paying full price for the haircut anyway. While in the past I was willing to overlook obvious issues, today was the last straw where i came out looking worse than before the haircut. I'm absolutely embarrassed with the service I received, and I have ended my membership - vowing to never return. I recommend the Refined Barber Shop across the interstate - which is where I'm going to fix this mess. The only decent barbers at Gents would be Mo or Chandy, but if you don't book them ... The person who gave me the haircut is pretty rude. I have been there on time of my appointment. But he didn't finish the person before me. Then I waited probably 20 mins. I wasn't happy with my previous haircut, so this time I showed him a picture of what I wanted. At this time a new customer came in, so he thought I was taking too much time, but I was just getting started. I hadn't even started for 15 minutes, and he kept complaining to me that he had two more customers behind me. But that's not my problem, I didn't start at the time I had scheduled and I waited twenty minutes as well. At the last, I ended up leaving with half my hair cut. read more

Our son in law found this place and took the husband there for a cut when his long time barber went AWOL for over three months. SIL always looks great since going to AJ with great becoming cut and beautifully trimmed beard and mustache. The husband came home more handsome than he's looked in years thanks to a new cut in a different style that's very becoming! I want him to become one of AJ's regulars! Used to go to this place because AJ is a great barber. He's quick and affordable unlike many of the expensive salons in Chicago. Unfortunately with the recent expansion the shop has made there is a new employee who charged me $30.00 to use clippers to shave the sides and back of my head. Couldn't have taken more than 10-15 minutes. Thats outrageous and Ive never been charged that price for that type of work at ANY barber shop in Chicago. If you go here go to AJ. Ricky and AJ do great work, the new guy not so much, I've been growing out my beard for over a year and went in today for a trim and line up. He straight up butchered me, chopped my beard down low on my cheeks after specifically being told to keep it where it was, my mustache looked like he shaved me blindfolded and he also took a massive chunk out of the body of my beard when I asked for a trim. I love this place. I'm not a student but I wish I were because they give some pretty sweet discounts to students on select days. Luis gives me the best cuts I've had in a long time, if not ever. Luis is an educator as well... teaching at workshops and what-not... so you can trust that he's always on the front edge of his craft. Super bogus that they schedule their clients in and don't actually keep their appointments at their respective times. I understand 10-15 minutes, but 45 minutes?! People have shit to do.
