Not any more!…read more This morning Streamline taxis left my disabled husband waiting in the rain for over an hour, cost him £35 in train fared for a train he couldn't catch, and ruined a much anticipated and needed leisure day after nine extremely difficult months. When I (repeatedly) phoned Streamline to check if there had been in any progress on locating a car, or even an eta, I was told with varying levels of disdain that "journey times aren't guaranteed", despite the fact that we'd booked in advance! When I calmly observed that "I'll show up when I feel like it" is not a business model I was accused of "having a go" at the operator. I understand that a lot of businesses were impacted by lockdown etc, but their attitude is simply unforgivable. I wouldn't trust Streamline Taxis in their current state with any journey that was important to me.

They usually can get you one really quickly ! In fact, they often have cabs outside waiting. The 'rank' actually consists of a waiting room with an intercom where you can talk with someone in an office. Have always thought it a bit strange that you never actually speak to anyone face to face (I assume they are actually in the same building and not answering from somewhere else !) If there isn't a taxi available there are a couple of seats so you can wait indoors. A bonus if it's late and and/or cold. Fares are predictably expensive - but no more than any other Brighton taxi company (in fact, there are none in the area that I know of that are notably cheaper !)

Not to be used again…read more The night of our wedding anniversay and new to Brighton. Took the card that was in the hotel. At 18:55 asked for a taxi and told it would be 5 to 6 minutes. Received an automated call at 19:05 saying that the taxi was pulling up ouside the hotel. Waited, and waited. No taxi. Called the switchboard again, and was told it was on Montpelier Rd, which was just around the corner. I said, I had a call that it was pulling up outside. They said, he pressed the button too early. It still didn't arrive. I called again, and was told that the driver had taken a different fare. She would dispatch another car. It was now pushing the time we had to be at the restaurant. I rang them to say that we were being delayed by the taxi. I had to do this call as restaurant places were very hard to get, and I worried that they'd put us down as a no show. Another taxi finally arrived at 19:25. It had to stop at every traffic light along the sea front. I then noticed that at near to the destination the driver deviated from the satnav directions. This took us to a set of temporary traffic lights; where we had to wait. This is significant, as the taxi is very much like a London cab you get, the meter continues ticking over even when standing still. The actual distance from the hotel to the restaurant was 2.9 miles for which I paid £12.20. On my return, with a different company: £10.20, and after 11 pm, normally a premium time on a Saturday. If you have something special to attend, then use them at your peril. PS - I couldn't get through on the 01273 20 40 60 number, and used the 01273 41 41 41.
