We got one of the rooms where they are testing their new in-room technology package. They will be rolling this out for all rooms very shortly. I found it very convenient and no real issues or glitches. Everything is controlled by a tablet - lights, temperature, etc. The TV has Apple Airplay and smart tech. There is a list of free movies as well. As an added bonus you get 4 free mini-bar items for every night you stay (i am not sure if this is a limited time promotion?). The location is excellent and their food options are great. The staff was super friendly and helpful and the check in was efficient. Top notch service. I would have given it a 5 star rating except the parking situation isn't ideal. In the area parking is an absolute premium and the Queens Park area is pedestrian only. It took us a little while to find the self park. It was a little annoying but the rest of the hotels attributes made up for it. They do have valet which we normally use but we were not going in and out on this particular visit so we opted for the self park option. Overall excellent option in Brisbane. I recommend it!

The rooms themselves are new and slick and the phone-remote controller for everything in room is clever but sometimes hard to use when you're tired and can't remember how to do things like turn off lights and aircon! The room rate is really quite reasonable for this standard of hotel and they win the hearts of those who stay here with special extras like free tea and coffee in the lounge area, a "we trust you" mini bar (including 4 freebies per day!) and sleep pods if you need a little pick-me-up during the day (still haven't tried them, damnit!) My only criticism: the set up of NEXT is supposed to be seamless and more self-serve. I guess the idea is kind of like the supermarkets that now have self check-out, so you can check yourself in and out of NEXT without ever needing to speak to a human. The problem I see though, just like the supermarkets, is that when you need help or actually want to speak to a human, they're not always that friendly. You really could stay here without interacting with another human, and that I feel is a bit sad. It's set up with the business traveller in mind (free wifi, work areas, places for meetings etc which is awesome) but as a businesses traveller sometimes you want a friendly face to greet you when you come "home" at night and to perhaps remember your name. In the age of technology, have we forgotten the art of human customer service?

The apartments are fairly modern, though a little tacky looking and lacking a proper stove or decent television. The beds are comfy though and what else do you really need? It is perfectly adequate if your just looking for somewhere short term though and wish to stay out of the hustle and bustle of the city. There is a pool, if by sheer luck you manage to be there on a sunny weekend in the summer, otherwise Brisbane's iconic Regatta Hotel is just around the corner to drink away a rainy day.

Like a good visit to any city, I planned on spending as little time in the room as possible and as much time as possible seeing things and people. With that in mind, I really didn't care what the room was like (as long as it had a bed and a shower). So I was pleasantly surprised by rad features like free WiFi and a balcony with a rather pretty view of the city. The woman at the reception desk was very friendly, and informed me of another advantage of the location; the City Cat ferry service stops just a short walk away (I took a ride at night, it's also very pretty). Being in Kangaroo point, you're only a couple of streets from the cliffs. The Kangaroo Point cliffs are great to walk along and beneath at any time but I think they're best at sunset. I didn't get a chance to try the food at the Wellington, opting for cheap snacks from the IGA and the Shafston Hotel across the road. Clean rooms, friendly staff, good location, affordable price. The Wellington is a pretty good choice if you plan on staying in Kangaroo Point.

I am not sure if this is the usual practice but I waited a while for someone to come and take my order before realising that perhaps this was what was expected of me, so either that is the norm or the service was a bit slow that day. When I did place my order the girl informed me that she had forgotten to mention the special; the 200g rump steak with salad and chips was available for just $10. My decision making process and gourmet options went down the drain as I decided I couldn't go past such a bargain. It was very enjoyable sitting, enjoying my food as the wind howled outside and the clouds threatened to pour down. I highly recommend this place, particularly if you're after a nice location and pleasant surroundings.
