It is decorated in a French theme and has a lot of charm throughout. We were lucky enough to stay in the room adjacent to the sitting room. It was very spacious and had a huge bathroom with a claw foot tub and pedestal sink. The locations of the French House is also great. It is in a historic part of Wilmington and taking a walk around the neighborhood shows how rich in history this part of town is. It is also walking distance (4 blocks) from the river and a quick 15 minute ride to Wilmington Beach. What makes The French House 5 stars is that it is run by a wonder hostess, Janice. She is kind and accommodating to her guests' needs. We arrived and found a fruit plate and mini refrigerator stocked with waters and soda. She gave us maps of downtown and recommendations of where to eat. She knew our names before we even introduced ourselves and always made us feel at home. When I burned my feet at the beach, she searched high and low for some aloe, even making phone calls to neighbors to find some. The breakfasts she provided always included some fresh berries, yogurts, homemade scones, and some sort of pastry (one day we had croissants, one day we had blueberry strudel). My only wish is that there were some kind of protein provided! We had a truly wonderful stay here at the French House. My only complaint was the other guest that was staying there at the same time as us...she had a guest stay late one night and rather than sitting on the front porch or in her room, she sat in the sitting room right in front of our room and kept us up for a good portion of the night. However, I will still give this place 5 stars because Janice and the house itself were excellent. We will be back :)

The Visitors Center of Surf Center is small with a ton of amenities. Arriving was a bit confusing…read morebecause the parking lot said spaces were $5 which seemed steep for a 10 minute visit, but there are several spaces devoted for people going to the Center and limited to 15 minutes. The staff in the Center is friendly and eager to assist. She provided pamphlets and recommendations for sites. The Center has an event center that can be rented for special events. In addition, there is a walkway outside to the beach with bathrooms and a covered deck to sit. The walkway provided us with our first views of the beautiful beach and pier. The Center is worth a quick trip if you are first timers, like we were.

New Hanover transportation simply gets worse. The reconstruction money has been wasted on placing…read moreugly medians that deter traffic, frustrate drivers, and increase gas usage and car wear. I am speaking about these Michigan lefts that have been forced upon unsuspecting residents. One may say that were designed to improve safety. No, they simply move the hot spot from one place and put it at another along with adding confusion on how to get to where you wanted to go. (To go left) We use to be able to safely cross over two lanes of traffic into the turn lane and wait for the oncoming cars before proceeding left into the flow of traffic. Now, we have to turn right into speeding traffic, travel 500 yards, and then try to get into the left turn lane. Once in the turn lane (after getting honked at) we face another car that is trying to head the opposite way. But we block each others vision from seeing oncoming traffic. With fear and in trepidation we believe it is safe, we have to make a u-turn in front of oncoming traffic (because we could not see them coming) and get honked at again. Who is responsible for this craziness?

I called and received an immediate person - no dialing this number or that. Jessica went right to work to arrange the cruise and airfare my husband and I needed - all very smoothly. Then a few days later, additional family wished to join us. Backed to Jessica to arrange which was not as smooth, but not the fault of Jessica. Rates and availability of cruise rooms and especially air flights change daily. Changes had to be made, but Jessica did her best to arrange both cruise and air to all of our satisfaction.
