However, this year I developed problems with pain in various parts of my back, neck, arms, and ribs as well as problems eating. Kaiser spent months putting me through all manner of uncomfortable tests. All the results kept coming back "normal." But I knew I didn't feel normal. So I reached out to Doctor Washington's office and was thrilled to learn that he was now specializing in providing second opinions for difficult health issues. The receptionist was reassuring and supportive and scheduled an appointment for the same week. She asked me to send all my labs, tests, and procedures to his office so he could review them in advance. The first night was a little tough (as expected), but to our amazement, he slept all the way through until 7 AM and continued to do so consistently throughout the two weeks we worked with her. Since then, he has been a great sleeper. Of course, there are occasional off nights if he's sick or not feeling well, but even then, he's usually able to put himself back to sleep quickly, which is such a huge change from before. They like to schedule out new patients many months in advance, if you call in summer, you might have the opportunity to be seen in early fall. Also, prepare to be questioned heavily whether or not she is really your primary care physician. They want to see a picture of your insurance card, and if you send it they may still have issues with sccipa or what have you. I have an urgent health matter, where an unstable ankle continues to grind both of my achilles into the ground from overload, I am losing more and more of my mobility, and I need a referral to an orthopedic specialist urgently. They couldn't do it. Yesterday I got an appointment for next week, it was cancelled twice, and then I got heavily questioned whether or not I was really their patient. They expected proof of my insurance card, and told me they were going to give me a curtesy call back once they resolved issues on their end. It's just a bad experience to have this doctor as your pcp and then keep having to proof that you deserve to get an appointment in a timely manner that would make sense for your health. Their severe insurance issues sounded semi plausible to me, but then I was somehow able to schedule an appointment with a different provider right away, before I even switched to them as my pcp, my mind was blown! This goes to show this clinic is unnecessarily difficult to work with and extremely unwelcoming to new patients. I don't know about the doctor herself, I never got the chance to see her within a reasonable timeframe. If you have months to spare, you might have a better experience than I did, I can only speak for my own stressful, disappointing experience and the unhelpful front staff that tried to tell me I needed to wait many months to be seen for a referral for an urgent serious health matter. Horrible! Edit: I blame the doctor herself first and foremost, I believe she has great influence over how her appointments are being handled. Delaying necessary medical care is causing medical harm, often irreversible. If you have her as a pcp she may cause you direct medical harm by letting her staff (the guy who is the manager in particular) block you from accessing your specialist in time, because you cannot see her for a referral, and she is the only one able to make it unless you can switch your pcp! I told them I can't walk, I have a degenerative condition, it's urgent, they didn't care and refused to book me, since I am "not established" with them, but she was my assigned doctor by my insurance! The medical board should review them, I don't think they should be allowed to be anyone's new primary care physician.

I heard nothing further until about a year later, when I received a text from a collection agency trying to collect that same $25. Are you kidding me? Sending a fee to collections after telling a patient it would be waived is unacceptable. I paid the $25 and called the office. They claimed they had tried calling me several times, but I never received any calls, texts, or voicemails from them. This experience was frustrating and unprofessional. A simple cancellation turned into a collection notice because this office failed to follow through on what they told me. I would not return or recommend them.

And then the bedtime resistance started. Throw in the transition to a big boy bed, tantrums, every manipulation in the book, and then nap refusal -- and we were in a bad way. I read a ton of books, did a bunch of different methods, and nothing worked. Bedtime would take 2+ hours with the end result being me asleep with him in his crib, no one getting enough sleep, and everyone being frustrated and miserable, with my husband and I getting zero time together at night. We did the big call then several smaller calls with unlimited emails for 2 weeks package -- which our final call is tomorrow. And we could not be more pleased -- THRILLED is a better word for it. Ecstatic is not an overstatement. Melissa did not tell us anything earth shattering -- but it was putting together all of this different information in a plan to stick to, and then if something wasn't working, to work with her to modify it. The one thing that has really helped is COMPLETE silence and no interaction including eye contact when we do the silent return to bed. But it is the complete plan and feeling confident in sticking to it. It has gotten better and better each day and now at the end of 2 weeks, this past weekend he napped BOTH days, which hasn't happened in months, and last night he went to sleep at 7:15 without leaving his room once and slept until 6:30, which we are working towards 7 am. And the best part? My husband and I now have time together so are SO much happier AND my son is in SUCH a better mood every morning -- it is clear he was terribly sleep deprived. Bottom line -- sleep sisters are a sleep miracle. I highly recommend -- and not just for babies, toddlers and kids too! My only regret is that I didn't make this investment (which was NOTHING when you look at the results) sooner.
