The clunking coming from our master bathroom register as the duct work below it warms up, expanding and contracting but because the lower level is partially finished and drywalled, it was not an easy fix! Our builder along with original contracted HVAC guys were at our house about 6-7 times even my brother who is HVAC certified and all were never able to correct it. I decided to give up on my builder and their HVAC guy and called Jackson Hardware and Heating and Air Conditioning. Gary came out listened to me to be able to fully understand the problem, determined and heard where it was coming from. He understood the severity of it being drywalled in but said he had an idea. He took a length of pipe and pounded it into the duct work, in between the ceiling and the floor above it, creating a dent in the duct. Thus separating it slightly from the restrictions of the drywall studs and clips allowing it to expand and contract without the dreaded clunking! Its been 8 days and we have not heard a single clunk! They came out on a Saturday to find mice had set up residence in our outside unit. They did a quick clean up and then checked the inside unit. They found the unit arcing and creating a fire hazard. They cut off the energy supply to avoid a fire. Next they quoted the cost to replace the AC system. A check around quickly showed that their price was better than competitors. We hired them for a replacement of the heating and AC systems. They were on time, friendly, professional, clean and explained everything. I highly recommend this company.

I called Gross Heating on Monday to have someone come out asap. I was told Wednesday morning was the soonest they could make it. I was reluctant to call another company because in the past I had a bad experience with another. The last time Gross came out, they did a great job, so I called them back and said okay to Wednesday. They said they could actually send someone out Tuesday, late in the afternoon. The technician came out and apologized, saying this job may take more time than we have today and run into a lot of overtime. So, a new appointment was set up with another tech for Wednesday morning. In a way I'm glad this happened because the new tech was excellent in every way. He had the part I needed on his truck and had everything completed at noon. While he was there, our daughter called saying you won't believe this, but my boiler stopped working and I have no heat. Gross had anticipated the tech would be at my house the entire day. I asked if we could go over to her house to take a look at her boiler. Gross said okay, so off we went. She needed a new pump motor, which luckily he also had on his truck. In conclusion, both of our heating systems were fixed in the same day and at what I feel was a reasonable price. I trust Gross Heating and wouldn't use anyone else.

Uttke performed a diagnostic and confirmed what I thought all along--the air handler was not cracked, and there was no carbon monoxide leaking into my home. The system was cutting off because I had installed one of those "smart" thermostats that have given homeowners so much trouble. Uttke did show me a good replacement for my furnace when the time came--a mid-range Armstrong furnace. I appreciated their integrity. I went out of my way to purchase AprilAire filters from Uttke because I appreciated how I was treated. Fast forward a couple years and I had moved to Cedarburg and needed two heat pumps. I called Uttke, got an in-person assessment, and a quote. I purchased on the spot and within days I had two heat pumps installed. Uttke was great in terms of communication to make certain the units were placed where I wanted them, and where they would make the most sense. I would recommend Uttke with confidence.

Two techs spent most of the morning tearing into the boiler, cleaning and testing, and reassembling it and testing further. They worked methodically and meticulously. They completely contained and vacuumed any mess as they brushed out the burners and the heat exchanger. They were cordial, they answered all my questions, and they never stopped working until the job was done. Ours is a fairly 'messy' system, with four zones, five pumps, a heat exchanger that's bigger than the hot water heater, and a few other curiosities. The techs seemed to be familiar with all elements of the system. We've been in this home a relatively short time. The previous owner recommended Donovan & Jorgenson to us, and now we recommend them to you.
