Some put their toe over the line. I was in ankle deep! Women wanted me, men wanted to be me. The easy part was the short walk to see the view or setup a chair. You can watch as the fisherman cast lines or watch the sunset. The parking lot has only 10 spots, but it wasn't an issue for us. Seems like cars wouldn't stay to long. I would recommend stopping by for a short bit, but due to the water restrictions and therefore ocean **cough cough** restroom restrictions I wouldn't stay long.

On the Sullivan's Island side there is a parking lot with a few historical markers telling visitors the story that Breach Inlet played in the American Revolution; in 1776 that the British could not ford the inlet and take Sullivan's Island on foot, many drowning trying to cross the inlet from what is now IOP to Sullivan's Island. On the IOP side there is a footpath through the brush to get to the inlet and from there you can head left to get the beach at Isle of Palm. Both sides have small parking lots and small beaches that you can fish off of. Swimming the Inlet is illegal, because it is so dangerous and I've witness currents take skiers flying off; only to be saved by life jackets they were wearing. Many people have drowned in this water. But it is a great place to come fish, wade (not swim) in the water, or just hang out on a nice day.

I went to the store to pick up and decided I wanted to rent an umbrella on top of my 3 chair reservation! Easy! Sign the waiver start walking out the door the kid behind the counter says yeah return this all by 5. I told him my online reservation said 10:55 8hr duration. He said "okay we close at 5" we decided to quickly get to the beach and enjoy the literal 1:30 mins we had with our rentals. I decided to give the store a call to get an understanding why the online said 8 hrs if they closed at 5 and needed everything back by 5. He said oh idk but we close at 5. Seemed to the only sentence he knew. Rushed back to return bc he did state if they were not brought back by 5 then we would be charged. Im upset bc I would have never made a reservation for chairs at 230 and pick up the chairs at 3 if I knew I was on a time crunch( 70 dollars!!!!!! ) i definitely wouldn't have added a umbrella for 30 dollars. When I returned our items I told the worker he should have let us know prior us walking out the door that we had till 5. And that they should fix their website bc it wasn't correct and he said yeah well we close at 5. (Annoying) I told him I was t happy about it and I would leave a review and contact the manager and be said okay that's fine and he said "what do you expect me to do about it" Also the umbrella/tent was awful. It was broken and wouldn't click to hold in place . We didn't even use it. It was a waste of 100 dollars. Don't reserve on the website I guess and go in person ask question. I honestly wouldn't have been so upset about it if the worker gave acknowledgment of the website being wrong or even apologized for it. And should have told us about the time of Return before we decided to add on an umbrella and I prolly wouldn't have been pleased had we gotten our moneys worth with the chairs

I really like the big dock and waterfront as it goes pretty far out on the water and is very peaceful and beautiful. The James Island Yacht Club is very well maintained and is a nice place to visit and be a part of.

The gate was open most of the time back then, but now they are very stengy about it. If you're not a member, people will know it and approach you about it, but you can't blame them. They pay a decent amount to be in it. It's got THE BEST views of the city of Charleston around. If you're not a member, you could always just go to Sunrise Park next door. Jumping off the dock, shark tooth hunting, fishing, crabbing, sailing, swimming, that's what I spent most of my childhood doing there. It holds a special place in my heart, especially with Charleston being over run by transplants now.

I'm sure it depends on the weather, but for us, this is such an easy going activity. You can stand up or just sit the whole time and paddle along and bask in the sun. We were lucky enough to see some dolphins too. A word to the wise: Beware of the traffic going into Folly Beach, and be sure to read the reservation information and put your Uber to the meeting spot they list! I ended up putting in the directions from Google Maps, which was a few blocks away from our meeting location, so we had a bit of walking to do in the hot Charleston sun. This also caused us to be late for our reservation, but they were extremely understanding.

Not only do they know what they're talking about, but they make it super fun. Surfing is definitely hard but Kyle is very encouraging and gives great feedback of how to improve your form / what you should be looking for in the waves, etc. Location is also key if you're looking to spend a beach day on Folly - they are centrally located to just chill on the beach after.
