Outdoor activities in Kaneohe, Oahu, Hawaii…read more.. While there's snow on the East Coast of the mainland USA, it's a breezy 80 degrees (in the middle of December) on the Windward side of Oahu Island in the 50th State! Yes! I took for granted my tropical paradise home. Traveling makes me appreciate our island lifestyle... Here's a look at one of our many neighborhood parks... Heeia is a laid back, residential district in Kaneohe. It's north of Honolulu, the capital of Hawaii. A popular park is Heeia Neighborhood Park because of the free parking, basketball courts, baseball field, children's playground equipment, and convenient restroom. There's even a few picnic tables - with attached benches - and water fountains! I'm just celebrating life in the Aloha State and wanted to share some sunshine with you wherever you are! Wishing you peace, joy, and love this Holiday Season! Stay safe, healthy, and happy, my friends!

Facilities include a baseball field, basketball courts with eight and ten foot rims, restrooms, picnic tables, open fields to play in, and most importantly, shade! He'eia Neighborhood Park, off of Haiku Road is nearby the Windward Mall Shopping Center and other shopping complex'. There's a small parking lot in front and, if necessary, the He'eia Elementary School's parking lot is utilized as an additional parking lot next door. The baseball park is named after the legendary Aunty Alice Hewett of Kaneohe. She is one of the greatest women to take charge and organizing sporting events around Kaneohe for the keiki. She's the best! Ultimately, He'eia Neighborhood Park is a nice place to come and relax. Or to enjoy a sporting event as a player or fan! Enjoy!!

What you see is what you get!…read more At first, I was just going to write a review to get this place on the grid. Then, I thought this review could serve a better purpose, so here goes... Plain and simple... This is just a park - no bells and whistles. No jungle gym. No picnic tables. Just a big, open, grassy area. Today, there were a few City Workers doing some maintenance on the chain link fence, so it was "safer". Sometimes, there are some unsavory characters lurking around. Instead, the feral chickens were roaming freely. Recently, a new parking lot was added to this property which is shared by the Kaneohe Public Library. An accessible pathway runs from the parking lot to the park, equipped with handrails. There's a functional restroom for men and women. The women's side has 2 stalls with doors. One stall had a large roll of Bathroom Tissue. The driveway could improve as it is steep and could used new pavement. Today, I also noticed that there were fresh white lines on the field, in anticipation of soccer season. The goal posts are usually present and ready for action. Now that I think about it, I really appreciate this park more since there were no parks like this in the neighborhood where I was raised. This park is a great addition to our community as it ultimately promotes teamwork and good sportsmanship. Our keiki can learn valuable life lessons here! Hawaii no ka oi!

What a BEAUTIFUL PARK!!!!…read more The Kaneohe District Park is kinda out of my way, as I don't live on the windward side of Oahu, but I mainly came here today as I had to get tested for Covid-19, and this Kaneohe location had some open appointment slots which I was able to secure. Since I don't live in Kaneohe, I had to do a quick search on Yelp & used the Yelp app. to guide me to the Kaneohe District park which was about 15 miles away from my house (not too bad at all). Upon arriving at the park, I didn't realize that the park covers two sides. When I say "two sides" I mean the Kaneohe District park is actually separated between a main street thoroughfare. From what I could see, the park had a very nice gymnasium, tennis courts, (4) baseball diamonds, supah LARGE grass field that can be used for either soccer, or football, a skateboard park, basketball courts, & a jungle gym for the little ones. Parking here is plentiful, and there were comfort stations on both sides of the park for your convenience. If I lived close by to this park, I could see myself coming here with Makana everyday. But since it's a wee bit out of my way to get here, just to visit the Kaneohe District Park and see what's going on here is cool by me!

If you live on the Windward side and have kids, dogs, and love picnics, this is the perfect park…read more It's huge and has plenty of free parking. For kids, there's a skateboard area, which I see quite a few kids enjoying it. Baseball diamonds, tennis & pickleball courts, football, basketball and a free community pool. We go there to meet some dog owners, and it has plenty of grassy fields to run with your dogs,(on a leash) have a picnic, or enjoy an evening stroll with your loved one. Be careful of prior rainy days, some areas can get muddy. It's a very enjoyable neighborhood park.

Maybe my OCD kicked in because it bothered me that this Park in Kaneohe didn't have any photos or…read morereviews for it... Let's take care of that now!!! First of all, I couldn't find the entrance to this Park. The directions on my GPS led me to a dead end street. I had to move the pin on the Yelp app to the place where Kapunahala District Park is located on the map. Editing has been submitted! There is a building with a sign that reads "Kapunahala Playground". Maybe this place was a "Playground" before it became a "Park". I'm not sure since Kaneohe is not my Hometown... I just live here... haha! I guess you would normally enter this Park either from the Kapunahala Elementary School side or the from the set of stairs that lead up to the playground from Anoi Road. It was empty except for a guy walking his dog at 7:30am on a Saturday. There were some feral chickens roaming around the large grassy area. The paved volleyball court is waiting for a net and the two paved basketball courts also look inviting. The only thing is that it's not covered, so when it rains - and it rains unexpectedly - it'll get messy... That's why the restroom is convenient - along with the water fountains. The baseball area has two dugouts and two sets of bleachers for the audiences. There's also a jungle gym for the younger children - it's nice and colorful with a padded ground! This park looks relatively safe and has many options for families with tables and benches for picnics. I'll check it out again some weekend when people are around and report back! TTFN!

They don't allow you to stop or get out of your cars to take pictures where the entrance way is so be cautious. Currently, they close on Thursdays so make sure you look at their hours closely! Entrance is free and if you keep driving, there is a free parking lot for guests. Guest service also has bathrooms, a mini exhibit of plants, and pamphlets for you to view each of the gardens. We didn't have time to visit all of garden but got to see the pretty main garden so that was nice! They have a few bench tables too so you could probably bring food and eat outside. Date of visit: July 23, 2023…read more Parking: A small lot with free parking Offerings: View of the ocean Small playground Restrooms Picnic tables Wild chickens Experience: After getting food from Foodland, one of our friends decided to have us go here to sit down and eat. I did not know what to expect, so it was nice rolling up to a small park by the beach and being also perplexed by why there were so many chickens roaming around. Definitely had my Disney princess share of having chickens surround us while we sat down during such a beautiful, but windy day by the shoreline. Once we were done eating, some of us explored by the water and took pictures by a tree that was hanging over the edge of the water. It was a good teaser for us for the rest of the trip when it came to how the beaches would be and got me excited to see what other adventures were in store for us from this moment on since it was our first day there.

Minus stars because there are a lot of chickens and birds that will hover around you when you have food. Also, the grass was very rocky and uncomfortable to lay down on even with a beach towel. I would bring a yoga or workout mat to lay down on the next time! I love that it's only a short drive from places like Foodland, Gotz grinds and other local spots with great food!

As I was walking this trail, my brain is telling me this is a mini Aiea loop trail with great view of the Windward side of Oahu. Parking is a challenge. The location is inside, one way, Kokokahi Place neighborhood so there's only street parking. We were lucky to find spacious area to park. The view here is great considering we only hike up 20-30 minutes. Total trip length was 2 miles. That was little disappointing because I like to get most out of my hikes. I feel like I got ripped off on this hike with little sweat. As for intensity, you do have to climb up but lots of ropes to help you. Luckily it was a dry day so no mud. This trail is quite narrow so it may not be kid friendly. Also, if you're on the taller side, watch out for branches. This is not State trail so it seems like it's not kept up regularly.

This is a very short hike that loops around, so you shouldn't be running into anyone on the narrow pathway. Start right, like driving! There's nothing steep, treacherous, or difficult. The Friendship Garden is very well maintained. Maps and information are provided at the beginning. At the top, you'll find beautiful views Kaneohe Bay. There's also a pathway that leads to another hike that's clearly more difficult and not apart of the Friendship Garden. Warning signs posted! The only difficult thing might be finding this place because it's quite hidden, deep in a residential area. It's located on Kokokahi Pl, which you can reach from Kaneohe Bay Dr. Just drive all the way up, and it'll be to your left. You can only park along the side of the road. Make sure to leave enough space, and also be mindful of the signs! No parking from 6-11AM on Wednesdays and Saturdays, which is probably trash pick up days. Overall, a really nice, easy hike with well maintained pathways. It might be a journey to get there, but it's worth it. Bring friends and make new friends!
