They have a tiny farm there, we saw 2 pigs. More animals available to interact w on Saturdays. Suggested donation $2pp. They take cash there. I thought u needed advanced tickets so bought online but it's really just whoever wants to ride can line up. https://www.svlsrm.org/ Duck pond: tons of duck and geese Water area: part of american river?? Not sure. Can fish there! Playground: With climate change, unpredictable weather, and summers with many days over 100F, would be nice if all parks in the sac area provided shade. This one has shade only over a small set of swings by a picnic area/ by the trains & barn. The main playground had shade near it but no shade over the play structures. Kids going down the slides could get burned- recommend putting up shade to avoid future liability issues. Overall a beautiful park w a good amt of shade, multiple parking lots and multiple picnic areas. Too far for us to come regularly but likely coming back for the train ride during holidays when I think they usually have a Santa there. (You need advance tix for this)

September 24, 2025 - Rancho Cordova, CA…read more The fenced dog park is great! There's plenty of room for pups to run, with separate areas for big dogs and for small ones (under 15" in height). A few chairs are available for owners, plus a little swimming pool filled with water for the dogs. The grass and shade trees make it extra inviting. It's clear this park is very well cared for.

Good luck if your door daughter gets arm or knee injuries due to the intensive training schedule…read morecausing adverse effects on a teen's growth plates. A good coach teaches his player how to do an exercise to avoid injury. Instead of teaching my son how to lift weights to avoid injury, Coach Mike Hacker would ridicule my son in front of his peers and yell "that's why you have injuries, because you're doing it wrong." Mike did not show him the "correct" way to lift the weight. There was another instance where my son and one of his peers were spotting each other on some weights. Coach Mike yelled at the other boy to get out of his weight room for talking to my son and told him he won't bother sending my son out of the room because my son is not worth it. There are numerous instances of mental and verbal abuse from Coach Mike on the field as well. None of these instances were constructive but personal. I will not mention them in order to protect my son's identity. We have read about coaches who ridicule and verbally abuse certain players on their team causing the player to quit the sport for good. We never imagined this would be the case with our 13 year old. Our son had played successfully since he was 5 years old and played Majors prior to coming to BPA. We cannot express the sadness we have our son has left the sport because of his experience at BPA. We believe Coach Mike had a personal disliking for our son since he had expected to get a starting pitcher but got a kid with injuries due to growth plates not being fully fused yet. Before coming to BPA we were warned by a previous player about how he also had been verbally abused and ridiculed by Coach Mike, but we didn't believe him. We wish we had. We remember Coach Mike naming other ball clubs in the area and telling us how bad they were, that BPA was the best, even better than playing for the high school he previously taught at. We now believe this was to isolate players from considering playing for any other competing baseball club in the area. Regrettably, we convinced our son to stay longer than he should have because of this. Great leaders motivate young players to succeed by being fair, positive, patient, sincere, concerned and honest. Although Coach Mike knows baseball, these characteristics were nowhere to be found. Parents beware! There are no protections under the law for verbal and mental abuse of your adoloscent in extracarricular sports. Don't take a chance with your child's self esteem and baseball future. There are other baseball clubs in the area that develop young, successful college recruitments.

I'm actually writing this review for Joe Duarte Field, but since it doesn't appear on Yelp, I'm…read moreposting it under Doc Oliver Field because it sits right next to it within William Land Park. We recently used the Duarte field area for track and field practice with my daughter's school, and it ended up being exactly what we needed. The grass is fairly even, which makes a big difference when kids are running drills, and there's a nice amount of shade around the field. Parking was also easy, which is always a bonus when you're arriving with a group after school. We went on a Monday right after school, and it was pretty quiet when we first arrived. By the time we were leaving around 5:00 PM, the baseball fields around the park were definitely filling up with teams starting their practices, so it's clearly a popular spot for youth sports. One of the things I really like about this area of the park is that there's a running path that loops around the whole park, so it's a great place to run or walk while practices are going on. And because you're right next to the Sacramento Zoo, every once in a while you can actually hear the animals. It's a pretty fun and unexpected little background soundtrack while you're out there. Helpful tip: If you want a quieter experience, earlier in the afternoon is best. By late afternoon the baseball fields start filling up with team practices. Between the open field space, shade, easy parking, and the path around the park, it's a really great place for practices or just getting outside for a run. And the occasional zoo sounds definitely make it memorable.

That's exactly a large part of what it is used for today and the reason why I go down. Watching my son play on this well-maintained field in a massive, one-of-a-kind park is just one of the many reasons why I love Sacramento. There are a number of fields in this complex, so I suppose this review goes for most of them. They all have dugouts and backstops and clearly marked fields with a combination of dirt and grass. I won't say they are the best maintained, but they do the job when it comes to youth sports. Another plus is that most of the area is well-shaded by massive old trees during the summer months. So as a fan, you can enjoy your little person as they enjoy the game and do so from the comfort of bleachers in a nice shaded area.
