This hotel, in a lovely quiet neighborhood called Schwabing, in north Munich, is a great find. If…read moreyou want to be in the middle of downtown Munich, where you can walk out the door and into public transportation, this place is not for you. If, on the other hand, you want a quiet retreat after a day of touring, then try this place. Remember, the taxi from the airport will cost you €90+, so use the train to the city center and take a taxi from there to the hotel, or call an Uber.
From Jerry, a retired and knowledgeable GI who mans the door, to Ivan, a tireless and gregarious server in the bar-restaurant, to Chiara and the very helpful front desk staff, this is a customer-forward team. The hotel has the amenities you expect: pool, fitness center, and good restaurants. It's also convenient to a small supermarket a block away, a first class Italian bakery next to the market, and a very good Indian restaurant, only a block farther away, run by a lovely lady. The street is lined with trees, and taxis queue in the hotel driveway.
Buffet breakfast is a treat at €19, and features the freshest ingredients and a wide variety of choices. Serve yourself a cappuccino or latte, and have fresh rolls, bread, breakfast pastries, and croissant. Eggs and omelets, pancakes, sausages, plus assorted cheeses, lox, and other condiments, fruits, and salads are all available. If you're like me, you'll eat enough breakfast to make it your main meal, having a small snack in the afternoon and a light dinner.
If you fancy that light dinner in the Marriott, Ivan will provide recommendations for both food and drinks. Going to hear music? Ask Jerry, at the door, about jazz, blues, and other music venues in town. In case you haven't taken my point, I loved this hotel. Marriotts are always a quality brand, but the personnel and amenities at this one are excellent. I'm coming back.
