The Aloft Munich is very centrally located, directly across from the main train station, with plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. For convenience, the location is hard to beat, especially if you're arriving or departing by train. The immediate area can feel a bit sketchy at times, but being aware of your surroundings easily solves that issue. Check-in was fast and smooth, and I appreciated receiving a room upgrade. Unfortunately, the hotel itself feels quite outdated and could really use a refresh. My room in particular showed its age: the carpets were stained and there was even trash on the floor when I arrived (see photos). That level of cleanliness is simply unacceptable. I only stayed one night, and given the condition of the room, I would not choose to stay here again. read more

A lack of German efficiency abounds at the Aloft. Rooms were wrong after multiple confirmations even the bar opened late. If there are other choices, pick them. The only magic here is that the place is located across from the main rail station allowing ring side seats for any gang violence, stumbling tourists, and assortment of hucksters and buskers. The location is fantastic - right across from the train station and a 10 minute walk to the Marienplatz and shopping. I cannot stress the importance of how close this is to the train station, especially after a long trip - all you have to do is cross the street to get to your room and relax! This property is clean and comfortable with all the room amenities needed. They offer a very nice breakfast and everyone has been very kind. They also have a bar, food and a pool table for some evening entertainment. A couple of items that weren't so good: the hotel laundry we turned in was forgotten. Luckily they have self service laundry so we were able to manage. The other is there is some street noise, not bad and I could sleep through this, however this could be bothersome if you are a light sleeper. All things considered, the prime location is a HUGE bonus. I would stay here again next time I visit Munich. read more

I don't love the modern decor of Aloft hotels but I'm not a hater either. For me, the bottom line is whether the hotel and in particular, my room, is safe & secure, clean, and comfortable. This Aloft met all of the above. The person who checked me in was friendly and welcoming. I was traveling with two other people, who each had their own room. There was only one person at the check-in desk. In the time that it took to check us a queue of 5 or 6 people had formed. I mention this because I've noticed a similar situation at the other Aloft hotels at which I've stayed. It wasn't due to anything the sole person at the check-in desk was doing wrong. He was going about as fast as usual. There should have been at least one more person available to help guests. So...since you're still with me...I've written more words about the check-in experience than the fact that I had a comfortable room and bed and got a great night's rest. I'd certainly stay here again. read more

mid-September 2021, visiting from Colorado. Hotel is across the street from the Munich main station/Hauptbahnhof, which was good for us as we ventured out every day. Yes, it's a tad sketchy in this area, but not scary. We walked the streets all around and never felt threatened in the least. Many nearby restaurants, and it's about a 15 min safe walk to the Marienplatz area. The hotel itself is quite clean and decent. Housekeeping was very reliable and attentive. We didn't spend any time in the bar/restaurant..only our room to sleep which we had no problems with as it was clean and quiet on the 6th floor. Yes, if we were looking to just camp out in Munich this probably wouldn't be the ideal hotel, but we were happy staying here as it was a good enough area and we were within 5 minutes of jumping on a train to elsewhere. read more

Comfort, service and location ----- did I mention location? Being right across the street from the Munich Central Station makes this property a hot commodity. With only a 15-20 minute S/U-Bahn ride in any direction, and you are more than likely at your destination. The entire staff does a wonderful job at making you feel at home. Of course, i spent a bit more time at the lounge/bar area and was very impressed with the bar. Surprisingly the drink prices were reasonable as compared to near by high-end places. As for the rooms, this property holds up to the SPG/Aloft brand with very comfortable rooms that make the most of the space. TIP: Don't forget about the washer/dryer on-site if you are staying for an extended time. As with most Aloft, you just need to pay for the detergent. Therefore, if you are thinking ahead be sure to bring a few of those detergent pods. read more

Germany is highly advanced. Light-years ahead of the U.S. in many thAngs... And I noticed a lot of this staying at this hotel. The elevators are awesome. You ride the elevator, and you don't feel a thing. It's like sitting in your house, you don't notice anything at all. Smooth and slick. The doors for the rooms are super thick. They have like an extra 2-inches of structural fire protection built into the door on the inboard side of the room. And the doors are super heavy too. The hotel evacuation plan on the back of the hotel room door was the most detailed I have ever seen - - and easy to read. All of the Staff speak perfect english. No accent, you can't even notice. Location is top notch, as referenced in other reviews. You are right across the street from the major train hub in Munich. And walking distance to multiple cool spots, including Octoberfest - which is why I picked this hotel because it was walking distance to Octoberfest. They have a cool bar (XYZ) in the lobby that has good cocktails and pizza also. And also the young lady that runs the breakfast buffet, she is super, super nice. I came down there (very hungover) one morning at like 9 or 10 (right as they were closing) and she let me hang for a bit and took care of me, and let me get extra coffee before she cleaned the machine. Great location! This hotel is 50 m from the train station. Just walk across the street and you have access to restaurants and travel. Inside there is a full bar which is a plus, music as well food is adequate. Location again is ideal on the main thorough fare The room itself is adequate size and although I had a room that looked down on the courtyard there were was plenty of light coming through my windows. New fixtures and plenty of towels and it also had plugs for all of your devices to charge from the clock. Price was also fair. The only negative was that the hallway lights are motion sensitive therefore it is pitch dark for a second or two when you get out of the elevator or room. read more

We have stayed in hotels all over the world, including this trip: Amsterdam, Paris, Colmar France and now Munich. We have never been so disappointed in a name brand hotel as we are with the Aloft here in Munich. When you've never been to a city before you rely on major brands to place their properties in desirable locations, but this hotel is surrounded by a train station, a strip club, homeless people and street beggars. The rooms are nice but the rest of the hotel's amenities are weak and not well thought out. There was one person checking everyone in causing long lines. The bar was a good size but it's hard to enjoy a relaxing drink with people playing pool and foosball all around you. It's one thing to have a brand that tries to appeal to a younger audience like Hilton's Canopy, but this place has gone so overboard on minimalism that it's ridiculous. read more

Although its very inviting, I feel like Im at home ( from Sparks, NV USA), The bathroom needs a bit of adding a rack to hang your wet towel ( not hooks ), The outlet is not definately not an American friendly outlets! We had to bother Front desk, I brought my own voltage converter but their outlets needs an adapter ( not like in Paris they have both 110 outlet and 240). The room has a Nice fridge but I guess they are scared of microwave . Our leftovers from dining out its super cold eating em next day. Im sure Im not The only Americans that noticed these inconveniences. The bathroom vanity needs some drawers esp for women to Store our make up and other Beauty products, had to put most of my stuff under The sink vanity . They should ask women before designing bathrooms . The staff are friendly and our room is Nice and quiet . The showers needs a full door , ( who uses a half Glass door? ) water splashes everywhere after showering, I had to use 3 towels to dry The floor so I wont slip... not a safe way ... read more

This review is for the bar area. Great place to chill and drink prices a lot less than at Isa Bar where I staying at the Sofitel. TVs have sports and cool music in background. Bartenders have great selection of specialty drinks ranging from 6-10 euros. I also enjoyed using the free pool table and foosball or kicker. I might even consider staying here next time I'm in town or definitely come back for a drink. read more

The only reason this hotel gets a 3 and not a 5 is because the cleaning staff during the day are so loud while cleaning rooms it's actually maddening. Hours go by with slamming doors that shake your whole room. So don't plan of sleeping or relaxing during the day! read more

I'm going to say this is the best Aloft I've ever been to, although this is also my first non US one. Slightly different clientele than in the US. Back home I'd always thought of it as a fancy hostel feel with Ikea furniture, here in Europe, turns out that is actually pretty much it! Waiting to check in, I was met by a group of American backpackers that didn't smell and all had new gear from REI. lol. Staff is typical Aloft. Young, polite, and very enthusiastic to help. When you book, make sure you get the rate with the 2 free drinks at the XYZ bar every day of your stay. Their lobby area is pretty cool with a DJ stand, well stocked bar, pool table, fussball table, assorted board games, and people hanging out with laptops. One again, this has the feel of an upscale hostel. None of the grime, but a similar chill vibe. I liked it. There is also a small private room. I imagine you could throw a small get together in there if you wanted, or watch a sporting event as there is a TV. There is also a self serve food area that has some simple breakfast items in the morning to purchase, and snacks 24 hours a day. Rooms are typical Aloft, although I got a suite. Never been in one of those before as I don't think they exist is American Alofts. A little bigger than normal, has a couch, foot stools, and a bean bag chair in the corner. Overall, great familiar hotel across the street from the Munich train station. read more

The rooms, room service and staff were great! A friend left his wallet in the lobby and it was picked up by staff and saved at the front desk for him! Great service, great people. The breakfast was great as well. The ONLY reason this review is getting a 3 instead of a 5 is because of the bar staff and bar prices. EXPENSIVE! DO NOT DRINK HERE!!!! We were charged €9,50 for a shot of the house vodka!! And it took them forever to give us the printed bill. I'm not sure if it was because were were Americans, but they every time, the same bartender charged us an insane amount for the very basic drink. Do yourself a favor and drink at another establishment down the street. read more

Aloft Munich is a fantastic place to stay if you are doing any travel by train. Very close to main train station. Hotel staff was very friendly with check-in, the room was modern and spacious with high quality seeming soaps, and both air conditioning and WiFi were great during our August visit. Also, breakfast buffet was well stocked and enjoyable. Our only minor trouble spot was that my Dad tried to use the washer and dryer for some clothes. There was a downpour of rain earlier in the same evening, so the dryer was very popular. He had to sit and wait, but even then it became a crazy long wait because the dryer did not seem to be functioning properly. He finally gave up and we had to hang wet clothes all around our room. This was a very nice amenity, and definitely not expected, so I would still highly recommend this hotel!! read more

I normally LOVE this hotel but it has seriously gone downhill this year. The room has a pass key cover that is broken and laying on the ground every time I come in. The desk staff is absolutely not up to the standards it has been in past years. The computers weren't working nor was the printer, so they told me to go to a copy store to print my boarding pass. Really? You gotta be kidding me! I went to the other hotel that I stay at (LeMeridien) and their staff were very accommodating! Maybe Aloft should send their staff next door to learn the value of a customer! read more

Just returned from a 4-day stay at the Aloft Munich. We had a very good experience here. The rooms were what you would expect from an Aloft. Air conditioning worked great, beds were comfortable, and good amenities (even little mini-toothpaste was provided). Our room faced the street from an upper floor. It was super quiet. Didn't hear a thing. The lobby area was open and did not feel confined. Their breakfast was pretty good (we received free breakfast because of my Marriott status). It was a full breakfast with a lot of variety. This included bacon, eggs, pretzels, and much more. We did a laundry (free), and even used the gym. The bartender gave us good restaurant recommendations. One evening we sat outside and had a few drinks. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Very pleasant, helpful, and we appreciated their excellent English. The location is really good. Right across the street from the train station (we used the train several times). We could easily walk to the main historic area, but the train was close and easy to use. The area was safe (we walked around at night). We greatly enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay again. Thanks for the excellent service. read more

The hotel looks nice. The lobby bar area is very cool and the location is great. The first problem is the setup. If you're in the interior portion of the hotel (50% of the rooms) you'll be circling a courtyard which in itself isn't a problem. The problem is sound carrys so far in that courtyard area. I was on the 4th floor and could hear people in the courtyard bar area having conversations at 2 am. Add to that the fact that there is no airflow in the courtyard and your room never gets comfortable. Normally you'd just close the windows and turn on the AC but the AC, i guess to save energy, doesn't allow you to make the room cool enough. Also, the beds have a blanket on them that, at first is comfortable. The problem is it doesn't breath at all. It traps 100% of your body heat and you end up sweating. It's just a terrible night's sleep. There's no way I'd stay here again. read more

Very nice hotel in a centrally located area. The area around it after dark gets very sketchy to put it nicely. Munich is one of my favorite cities in Europe. This hotel had a great front desk staff. They were very pleasant and informative during the check in process. The rooms are spacious with plenty of outlets close to the bed for charging phone sect... I have found that to be a rare thing with many of the hotels I stay at. The rooms have a nice feel and are very modern. Be careful if you venture out after dark as the area directly around the hotel takes on a not so great feeling. I was offered several things within the first few blocks after leaving the hotel. I understand that the train station across the streets is rumored to be one of the main drug routes into Munich by couriers. The owner of one of the places I stopped in for a beer told me that. The hotel ... GREAT THE STAFF... GREAT The area... Just be vigilant and aware. read more

Sadly, this Aloft is like most of the Starwood properties in Germany. Acting like a cheap hotel, with nearly useless air conditioning and no black out curtains. I recommend the Marriott nearby. Nearly impossible to sleep here-and I travel to Europe monthly, lifetime gold/platinum spg, platinum Marriott and Diamond at Hilton. read more

Oktoberfest in Munich has become an annual trip for us, and this is the first time we stayed at the Aloft Hotel, but it will definitely not be the last! The hotel is in a great location...right across from the Hauptbahnhof (the central train station) and easy walking distance to the Wiesn. Staff is friendly, the hotel is modern and clean, and the bar is great (see separate review). The rooms were decently large by European standards, soundproof to street noise, bottled water and WiFi was free, and the beds were absolutely heavenly. My only complaint is my usual complaint about Aloft rooms...the bathroom doors and walls do not allow for much privacy if you are sharing a room. I was alone on this trip, but if you are planning to share a room, make sure you're comfortable with the person you're staying with. Besides that, I bet you'll love your stay as much as I did. We came here for Oktoberfest (booked many months in advance) with a large group and it was the perfect spot! Directly across the street from the train station, and an easy walk to the festival and other city attractions. We arrived very late at the hotel and Dennis at the front desk made everything posible to make our stay relaxed and easy. He knew that our train was leaving at six in the morning and he made sure we were able to grab some food from the breakfast buffet before we left the hotel. He even asked the security to help us to bring the luggage carts back that way, we didn't waste any time returning them.
