2 Star Honest Review of "Five Star Cleaners" and Owner Jade…read more(Lengthy but worth the read if you're considering this company)
This is my honest experience with Five Star Cleaners, run by Jade, and why I unfortunately cannot recommend this company.
I was in search of a move-out cleaning for my ohana rental and needed a reliable, reputable company to take on the job. I found Five Star Cleaners, and Jade sent an amazing cleaner named Chelsea, who did a fantastic job on a small test area. That experience gave me confidence in their quality of work.
As a homeowner, I'm careful when hiring service providers -- especially when I'm not going to be physically present -- so I planned this cleaning a full month in advance. We scheduled a team of 4 cleaners, at $120/hr, for roughly 3-5 hours. Everything was confirmed: my proxy (a trusted friend) would be there in my place as I would be off-island, and multiple cleanings were lined up.
A week before the job, I checked in with Jade to confirm everything and asked for a detailed list of what the cleaning would include (e.g. baseboards, windows inside and out, cabinets, full deep clean, etc.). I also mentioned I'd like the invoice to clearly reflect the services for documentation purposes -- in case anything came up with my tenant's security deposit and I needed it for small claims.
That's when Jade suddenly became uncomfortable and said this was "concerning." I clarified that I wasn't threatening legal action or involving her in a dispute -- I simply needed a clear invoice, as any homeowner would, to show a judge the unit had been professionally deep-cleaned (as required by my lease). I explained this is standard procedure, and no liability or risk would fall on her or her team. Just a paper trail.
However, Jade insisted she didn't want to be "caught in any legal crossfire" and pulled out of the job entirely, just one week before the scheduled date, leaving me scrambling just days before I was scheduled to leave the island. She refused to speak on the phone to clarify things or resolve the misunderstanding. All communication abruptly stopped.
To make matters worse, Jade then blocked me on Facebook and all other communication channels, presumably to avoid accountability and prevent a negative review -- rather than taking ownership or having a respectful conversation as an informed and professional business owner should. That behavior alone speaks volumes.
This last-minute cancellation was a major inconvenience and unnecessary stress, especially after a month of coordination. I had trusted this company to follow through -- and instead, they dropped out without any real attempt to problem-solve. That is not professional in my opinion.
To be clear, I don't wish Jade or her business any harm -- but I do not consider this company reputable based on this experience. In Hawaiʻi, where it's already difficult to find trustworthy cleaning services, this situation only made things harder.
If you're a homeowner or property manager needing reliable, professional, and communicative service -- I would encourage you to look elsewhere. This wasn't it.
