I reached out to Agro Accounting for a quote. I received an email that read: " Hello again, we thank you some more for creating a work order on our secure website. We look forward to receiving ALL of your information - per our Document Checklist inside your work order - giving you a price quote (upon receipt) and getting things started! -Team @ Agro CPA" Upon uploading all my information and organizing it following the guidelines on the website, i received an email from Basil saying that for me to get the price quote, i had to pay a $65 consultation: " Thanks for getting back to us. I would respectfully request you book me for a $65, 30-minute consultation to help you streamline and understand your business income and tax deductions, and file presentation. To do that, please go to my calendar page, where you will be able to select a 30-Min Pro Consultation and make payment with your desired time of booking." I replied inquiring as to whether the documents I had shared following their guidelines were not enough since i had organized them clearly, and i didn't want to spend $65 on a quota. The response was the following: " I understand you want a price quote -- and we want to be as preparation-ready as possible, in the event that you hire us. I otherwise could spend all day giving price quotes this time of year: it's not efficient for our business model to not have all the info required. If booking a consultation does not work for you, kindly consider taking your business to another tax professional." Never in my life had I been asked to pay for a price quote. Very rude and uncollaborative. Not impressed. EDIT: Hahahaha, I can't believe the response from the business owner. First of all, it is not your prospective client's responsibility that you cannot manage your time properly and find yourself working at 2 a.m. NY time. Secondly, the screenshots attached to the review clearly show that I was asking whether you were requesting a consultation because you had reviewed the files and found them unclear -- or if you were doing so just because -- even though I organized the files according to your guidelines and created a Google Drive (again, exactly as your guidelines suggest) despite the obvious security issues. I also added brief notes on the portal to address any potential confusion, given that I am currently out of the country for work. Yes, I did find it unnecessary to pay $65 for a consultation when all the information needed for an initial price quote had already been shared. I am extremely confused as to why it was so outrageous to contact the Portland office from abroad to work on my individual 2024 tax return when I am an Oregon business owner and resident. Lastly, I'm attaching the "automated message" I received offering $200 to remove this review. Please make it make sense. Am I seriously supposed to delete this review for $200 after reading the appalling response from the owner? LOL -- absolutely not. This experience gets worse and worse. The owner is unhinged, and probably dangerous as he not only berates them, he also exposes his clients names online (see older responses to other reviews). I asked Basil to make a minor correction on my tax return. He lashed out at me via long emails, in which he accused me of making "unilateral, unreasonable demands", threatened to sue me ("My lawyer drives a drop top BMW and is eagerly awaiting my next call so he can feed his material needs."), falsely accused me of defamation and "poking holes in his system", twisted my words, and boasted about his lawyer giving him the opportunity to file criminal harassment charges against his client/verbal assailant. His emails were both infuriating and frightening. I'm still concerned for my safety and I wish I'd never contacted Basil. It's called Agro for a reason! These folks are awful, expensive and VERY rude. They threatened to sue me and tell the feds about my "illegal" activity because I had a follow up question. They tried to fire me in the middle of the process. They have the most poorly designed website- it looks like a template and it's impossible to read. Seriously, don't go to these folks. read more

I have filed taxes through this guy for 3 years in a row only because my friend referred me, and he always did the least he could. My taxes were filed and i got my returns - thats what accountants are supposed to do anyway. Neither myself nor my friends will be returning again, because his service is just not worth anything and he does not seem to have the feasibility to handle his workload. He is an extremely defensive and hostile person, and will lose his temper if any question is asked. He had raised his service fees on me twice with no prior notice, and responded in an extremely unprofessional and childish manner when I reached out to him for an explanation. Agro Accounting is....not for everyone. Basil is VERY proud of the operation he has built, which I appreciate. But as his company has grown, both in terms of staff and technology, the personal touch has diminished. He now requires you to book a meeting with him for an hourly rate (in addition to his filing fee) if you have questions about your return. Oddly, he'll spend the time writing long emails explaining that his time isn't free. As another review mentioned, he can be pretty abrasive and hostile when asked about fee increases, or just when met with curiosity about the tax filing process and his methods. He sent me a scathing (and very lengthy) email when I had questions about possible deductions, and that's when we parted ways. I held back from writing a review, deciding that the relationship might just not have been a good fit personality-wise, but his service clearly works for some people. However, when my current accountant pointed out that two of my previous returns were filed incorrectly, and I was owed a significant refund because of Basil's missteps, I felt it was worth letting the internet know. read more

What drew me to Agro was their extremely pedestrian, no-nonsense handbill ad campaign in Brooklyn. A communications hack, I admired their endearing, minimalist approach in the face of so much marketing schlock. Anyway, I'm extremely pleased with the accounting services and support I have received from Agro, especially being coached through business deductions that I'm entitled to as LLC without being led into the tax avoidance dark arts.
