Don't bother wasting your time with Johan. We received a letter from the IRS stating that we had misfiled some information, Johan had made some adjustments to our prior tax return and told us that we were all set and to pay specific dollar amount to the IRS. We did exactly what Johan said and a month or two later we received a letter from the IRS saying that we owed more money than what we originally owed prior to visiting Johan. My husband and I have reached out to Johan a number of times without any response. I reached out to the BBB and put in a claim. Finally Johan did get back after a number of attempts and claimed that my emails were going to spam, funny because I just responded to our original emails and those made it there just fine. Johan claimed we did not submit a specific piece of paper work, which in the end Johan admitted that we had indeed submitted the proper document. In the we just ended up paying the government the money because the advice we were given at LUO CPA was bogus and costed us way more in the end. If you are looking for for sound tax advice I strongly suggest looking elsewhere. Johan was a complete waste of money and time. read more

Can't recommend enough. I've always done my own taxes through websites like TurboTax and Credit Karma- meaning as soon as tax season rolled around, at even the whisper of the word "tax", I would get immense anxiety because (1) I knew deep down inside there was no way I was doing my taxes correctly and (2) I didn't want to pay an exorbitant amount for a CPA to do something that everyone else seemed capable of doing. I would ask my friends for any recommendations but in most cases, they were getting help through a family friend or filing their taxes themselves. I finally decided to take matters into my own hands (especially this year with God knows what's going on re tax law changes). I'm so happy I came across LUO CPA on yelp. I looked into other CPA's like RG Brenner / H&R Block but didn't see great reviews and didn't trust they'd give me the comfort I needed without the high price tag. When I saw LUO CPA I reached out to request an estimate via yelp. They were super prompt in their responses and did all of my tax filings this year without any issues for only $200. Not only that, they identified an issue with my 2017 tax return (told you I knew I was doing it wrong!) and amended and refiled my tax return (for $300). Though I paid more than I wanted for the amendment, the issue would never have come up if I had just found LUO CPA last year. And I got more money back in my return. I also needed some advice on how different investments would affect my tax return and Mao (my CPA) was really helpful in providing answers. I will be recommending LUO CPA to everyone who needs help with their taxes and will definitely be using them in the future for all of my returns. Really really happy to get the burden and anxiety of tax season off my shoulders!! read more

Mr. Luo was super knowledgeable and helped me file about 7 different paperwork since we moved back to NY, we're military, had student loans, investments etc. He always got back to me either through email or phone calls when I needed to ask questions or had concerns about what I needed to have filed. Due to stress, a bad experience with TurboTax, and difficulty finding a trustworthy tax professional, I filed my taxes late (without an extension) for the first time ever (after years of timely filing). I was able to send the necessary paperwork to Johan through the secure portal. Johan completed my tax returns within a day, and his colleague Mao filed them as soon as I signed them when Johan was out of the office the next day. Mao also let me know that since this was my first time filing late I could ask the IRS to forgive the penalties. Not only was Mao correct, but NYS also forgave the penalties. I normally do my taxes myself but this year had a question and decided to go look for help. I requested a quote from a few places and despite living in the city, I decided to travel all the way to Brooklyn to use these guys. I am SO glad I did! The conclusion is that I would recommend these guys to anyone! First, they were helpful, kind and responsive throughout the whole messaging part. Many of the other guys I quoted either kept trying to up-sell me additional services that I never asked for or were very shady in their responses. The prices they charge are very reasonable. Second, a person named Ivan helped me at the company. He was super knowledgeable and helped me gain comfort around all the questions I had. I left their office feeling very good, even though it was a somewhat random place I found on Yelp. Third, they went above and beyond on certain things. My parent received a letter from the IRS, stating her tax due, which both my mother and I had no idea how it generated. My mother thought she was paying the gov more than $300 per year out of her federal refund. We came to Johan Luo for consultation. He spent 1 hour, explaining the situation. Johan found out the the $300 per year was the tax preparation fee and processing fee, charged by the "famous tax franchise firm" (don't need to mention), who did her tax return every year. And that tax franchise firm did not ask appropriate questions and therefore ignoring a major tax issue with my mother's self-employed business. Johan Luo explained to us how to gather and organize my mother's business income and expenses and how he would communicate with the IRS on my mother's behalf, step by step. Also, he walked us through accounting concept in plain English, so that both my mother and I understood what we should do from now on to keep our accounting record. Highly recommended!
