We had REALLY delicious food from Agave. The three dip trio was seriously so good, we had to force ourselves to stop so we could eat our entrees. My friend got the taco platter. I had the chicken fajitas platter. We are both gluten free and they were very accommodating. We sat outside on their patio, because it was such a nice day. Hostess was very sweet, the server was really nice--weird to say this, but maybe too nice? I didn't have a margarita, but my friend didn't finish hers because it wasn't great. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of pictures to provide because I only ordered drinks but every-time I have gone to this establishment the service has been 10/10. I'm always sat quickly and the customer service is wonderful. I'm not sure if the bartenders name but he is great at his job. He always provides me with new recommendations and is super kind! The overall atmosphere of this establishment is super cute! The music is great, not too loud, and the decor is captivating! My favorite drink to get is the pineapple margarita, it's super refreshing and not too sweet. They always provide chips and salsa which always comes out fast as well! I visited on a rainy Friday, the 13th while a concert series was being set up outdoors. It didn't take long to receive my drink or food. There were a few other patrons inside. Food was delicious, I had the carne asada and the table split the street corn and cocktail shrimp. My wife had some kind of tacos and our friend had some kind of enchiladas, I didn't try their food but looked equally tasty to me. Service on the other hand was absolutely atrocious. Our friend ordered a Paloma, and after waiting for around 10-15 minutes the waiter came by to say the bartender was backed up (there was no bartender at the bar so I'm not really sure what he was talking about) so she asked if she could change her drink order since her original order had not began the process of being made, he said no. The street corn and shrimp cocktail we ordered for the table as appetizers came after our entrées arrived, which I suppose isn't on the waiter but that was still not ideal. My wife had ordered beans to come with her tacos along with the rice that it comes with, when her food arrived there was no beans so she told him she had added beans when she ordered and politely asked if he could bring he some, he said "it comes with rice, you can eat that." He did bring her the beans, but his apathy and ineptitude was almost comically bad. I never received a drink refill, or really saw him again until he came to clear plates and give us the check, and at that point I'd rather just leave than wait for him to go through a Fellowship of the Ring type endeavor to bring me some more iced tea. At any rate, the food was very good, absolutely delicious and I have no complaints. Will I ever go back? No, not if I'm paying or have any say in where the group goes, service matters and there are plenty of other places that have good food, and even average service would have been a huge upgrade to what we experience. read more

Branching out was a blessing however. The menu has meals that I've never seen at any Mexican restaurant. I ended up getting Birrias Quesatacos which is something like a Mexican combination of Monte Christo and French dip sandwiches. It included three tacos with a consome for dipping and a side of rice. It was very good and unique. My wife had the Agave taco salad, which she also reported was excellent. Chips and salsa are also included, which is not always a given at trendy-looking Mexican restaurants. The salsa was on point. Prices vary with entrees ranging from $15 to $30+. Not a lot of places open Sunday night and hard to get a table at the more popular American restaurants we looked at, so my group ended up here for dinner. They have a big menu of "American Mexican", which doesn't have anything really exciting but will have something to please anyone as long as you like Mexican flavours. There are plenty of meat and seafood options, and limited vegetarian options. They brought out complimentary chips and salsa to start. I really liked this salsa, it was simple and fresh. I had "tilapia tampico", grilled tilapia with salsa verde, with side rice, salad, and tortillas. This wasn't anything really special; the salsa verde tasted like basic jarred salsa from the grocery store to me, and the amount of salsa meant that the whole dish was pretty salty, but the fish was cooked and seasoned well and it was a tasty enough meal. Other meals looked similar. I was very hungry and wasn't quite able to finish. If you're not too hungry you could split this into two meals. If you're solely looking to get as much food as possible for your dollar, the fajitas might be the best option, but everything is fair value for a table service restaurant. Our waitress was wonderful. She was very personable and made sure we had everything we needed, even filling up our personal water bottles for us before we left. This would be a good place if you have picky eaters or just want something safe. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it for a "great" meal, but if you have limited options like we did, it's perfectly fine. read more

Agave is a versatile location nestled in Downtown Columbus. Depending on what you are looking for, you might want to stop by. The food at Agave I would rate a 3/5. It is not anything to write home about, and it is not as authentic as it gets. As for service, there have been times where the service is extremely fast, and other times it is the opposite. It might just depend on the day. One thing I do love about Agave is Latin nights. This is usually Fridays and Saturdays after they have closed, around 11 PM. If you are looking for Latin music( reggeaton, salsa, bachata, etc) this is the place to go! Entrance is $10 and if you are a lady it is free before midnight. Overall, Agave is for sure in my rotation of spots to visit in Columbus. read more

The waiters conversed across the table and over the customers while they stood on opposite sides of the table. Additionally, the ladies sitting next to us were there before us and we got our food first (same size party). I could tell they were upset with the service and food. I was avoiding being creepily observant so I didn't notice much else. In conclusion, I won't be going back. I can double the amount of food for less than half the price from La Mexicana and the food tastes better. Food - The food was good. This was the thing that saved it for us. I'll get more into our experience below. The chips were fresh and the salsas/queso were tasty. There's a smokey salsa that's a little spicy - it was fantastic. Everyone in our party enjoyed their entree. The portion size on the combination was small given the price. Also, you could tell the food was plated and left to wait for too long. This is a timing issue that I hope will sort itself out. Service - They had one guy covering too many tables. It took a while to put in our orders and to get drinks. I don't think it was the waiter's fault. He can't help the fact that he didn't have enough support. Drinks - The mango and strawberry margaritas were weak. The basic margarita was fantastic. Regarding draft beer, they have the pulls behind the bar, but they're not serving yet. They need to get that fixed. I know this place is pretty new, so I hope it's just a matter of time, and letting the kitchen and front of house come together. We will go back. We live close by, so we want a great Mexican restaurant in our rotation. The quality is there, but they need to sort a few things out. First off we had a group of 9 and we had someone in the group try to call in advance and even left a voicemail which there was no call back or acknowledgment of any reservation. So lack of communication was a bit concerning. Fortunately despite our group size we were all accommodated so that was a plus. Keep in mind groups larger than 6 is an automatic 20% gratuity. Some reviews complained about lack of service but we were fortunate that our server was fairly attentive and checked in when he could so no issues from us there. Now there was another server who seemed to have a snooty attitude (but I'll let that slide as he wasn't our direct server). I personally didn't drink but the other ladies in our group did and from their experience they said the drinks were good (apparently the margaritas are really good so I can see myself coming back to go to the bar if anything). Now for the food. I do appreciate that our server did warn me that my burrito would be fairly large and sure enough, it didn't disappoint in size. Overall it was ok. My husband ordered the carnitas to which he said it was good but the price almost made it not worth it (his plate was about half the size of mine and he only got 3 tortillas). For the convenience of being nearby it's a decent Mexican restaurant it's just overpriced. We really can't see ourselves coming back and it's really only because of the price if anything. read more

We showed up at around 11:07 since they opened at 11 and we were the first guests in. They were all still seated at one table which ironically is the one they sat us at. Chips and red salsa were brought out to us pretty quickly but that didn't offset the fact that it tasted like marinara sauce. We ordered guac and it came as a very decent size with was great for sharing and tasted great!! Our server was very kind and offered us great recommendations. Our food came out pretty quickly and everything tasted amazing! I had the shrimp tacos on corn tortillas (they usually come on flour) and the rice was so yummy! My fiancé enjoyed the agave margarita and for the normal size it was huge! Definitely a bang for your buck and he absolutely loved it.
