Did a walk-in, but they definitely prefer appointments here, so make one in advance! I haven't paid for a haircut since 2016, and this was the first time I had longer hair and didn't just buzz it down with a #1 guard myself. So I didn't know what to ask for. I just asked to have it cut short while leaving the curls, and I got exactly that. Everyone there was super friendly which was cool too. Price for the haircut was $35 + $5 for the facial hair shapeup; I don't know how this compares to other shops, but I wasn't too mad about it since I felt I was there a lot longer than my kids are in the chair at Greatclips, and I was really happy with the results. Really cool barbershop I'm glad I found. It's a big place with lots of chairs but only one guy working when i stopped in after work. He immediately accepted my request for a quick haircut as soon as he finished with the cut he was working on. Wish I could remember his name because he was really cool we had some great conversations while he cleaned up my fade. I think this place is quite suitable for children since the clients before and after me were both fathers bringing in their kids for a cut. While visiting my Sister I was badly in need of a fade, I'm always worried about going to new shops while out of town especially since I like my skin fade a certain way not too high up, not doing the high and tight on my head (weird head shape) anyway after going through all the local shops photos available online I really liked the way Cavil's fades looked on all hair types, he was very thorough and very nice and professional. If you're from out of town and you're used to having a cut from a "battle" barber I suggest you book an appointment with Cavil or any one of the boys in the spot, they all look passionate about what they do. read more

I arrived at 3:45 with that understanding that there would be a bit of a wait due to a shortage of barbers. Now I'm a very patient person and will wait for great service. However against my gut, here we are at 6:42 with no haircuts completed. I sat there until exactly 6:38pm. What made me perturbed was the lack of acknowledgment and organization to keep up with those who had been waiting and those who just walked in. This was my first experience walking in, it was good seems like they had respect and I'm from West coast and looking into new places where I em able to appreciate the haircut. While at the process I was telling my barber how I would like it to be and then he was cool about me being specific. Later in the process he seem mad about it, and he went DEEP on my skin while he was outlining my hair edges. After that he put alcohol where he went DEEP, concluding with my top side he kept on burning me with the hair dryer putting it close to me...cut more on my front outline and now I HAVE HAIR OUTLINE SCARS FROM THIS EXPERIENCE. My son walked in for the first time today. It was a recommendation from a family friend. He attends college in Charleston and usually just waits until he comes home to get a cut but he decided he wanted to try somewhere down there. He was extremely reluctant because he has had bad experiences other places before and finally found a barber at home that got him just right. He walked out of there completely upset and unsatisfied. He said that he told the barber EXACTLY what he wanted. Just a little off the top to even it up and a taper along the sides and back. The barber took WAY too much off the top. You can even see parts of his scalp. I am livid because #1 my son is upset - he's extremely particular about his hair and how he presents himself. Super friendly staff, book online first. Always on time and always the perfect cut. I personally go to Tina who I love and trust with my hair and how particular I am with it. However, I can still speak to the caliber of all barbers in this shop. They all pay close attention to detail to make sure you leave with the perfect cut and you really can't go wrong with any of them. I've lived in charleston area for over 2 years now and have had plenty of haircuts that have been either crap or just ok. I really don't do reviews I just compliment on the spot but today I got my haircut from a woman named Tina who not only had good conversation but gave me the best haircut since I've lived here. She knew exactly how to cut my hair based off the shape of my head and the way my hair lays on my head and all I normally get is a skin fade an trim the top and she nailed it. On top of my hair cut experience, against da grain barbershop is very welcoming. They do a good job acknowledging military folks too. Had a 11:10 appointment set up and showed up sat outside for 40 minutes and could not get my money back. They express that "if you are late no refunds" but what do you do when you show up 20 minutes early and your barber isn't even here still waiting on a refund. Waiting 40 minutes past my appointment time and still no show. 10/10 would not recommend. read more

I have to say that this is one of the best barbershops I have been to in Charleston. Every time I walk in I feel like I'm meeting my second family. I grow closer and closer to these people, like it's straight out of a movie! My only gripe against this establishment is the waiting process. It varies from time to time, sometimes it can be a quick five minute wait and sometime other days...I am in a chair for up to an hour. It is not the customer service that makes the waiting process tedious, certainly not. The wait is just a result from how packed they are from their excellent detail on a haircut and the customers know that (Plus they play a movie and keep a smile on peoples faces.) I suggest to bypass the heavy flow of business just come in early, there is always a free chair and each barber has their own style that is sure to slay! My personal favorites go to Tina and Spencer. I always feel sharp and fresh when I step out, the conversations are always full of wisdom and great life stories. It is my regular go-to and I always recommend. read more
