Anti-Monopolising Islington

After Noah's existance makes me happy. This store has loads of trinkets new and old and a whole lower level of antiques. This store is one part vintage toy shop, one part antiques, and one part kitch gifts for the home. This place is great to place to pick out unique present. Check out Anti-Monoply and the retro wall clocks! Hot.

Quirky, Kitsch, and Quirky! Too much to look at I just want to touch and buy everything, it is a well sized shop with bit and pieces from yester-year. As you know you must pay a price for these little treasures but some are totally worth it. Bought an old tin Arsenal F.C sign for the hubby and he loved it, at £24 it was worth his joy when he got it, not to sound like a master card advert but, that was priceless. It is a blend of antique, vintage and contemporary furniture, furniment, jewellery, gifts and toys (lots of them!) they have know opened a toy shop next door. That's proving very popular you will no doubt hear more than a few people saying the same phrase 'God, do you remember these?'

Every time I walk past After Noah I see children run to the glass display and point to toys and sweets they have to have. I then watch as their parents do exactly the same. You can't help but love After Noah because of this, it brings out the big kid in everyone. The shop itself stocks a beautiful selection of old and new toys and games, though don't go in looking for a Nintendo or a Wii, it's not that kind of place. Although things can be quite pricey, I would describe After Noah as the perfect shop if you're struggling for present ideas for someone. You would have to be buying for scrooge for them not to like something in this shop. My personal favourites are the wooden cars in the window that are just big enough for a toddler to sit on and push around. I like them so much that I am encouraging family members to have children just so that I can buy one. This might take a while though so maybe I should just bite the bullet and ask them if they have any in adult sizes...Children get enough presents anyway!

A creaky TARDIS full of delights pretty much sums up After Noah. I'm a sucker for a toy shop so succumbed to the siren's call and went in. The shop is essentially split into 3 parts - the left is gifty-type things. Reminded me of a Joy. Right has toys and games. Downstairs is vintage and vintage-style furniture and furnishings. While I was there, I loved it. It felt quirky and cool. But I left empty-handed. I mean, it's overpriced, of course. That kind of stuff you don't need shop always is, and being in Islington compounds that. And it's full. Really, really full, which makes me not want to look at things. But if I hadn't already done Christmas pressies for my niece and nephew, I'm sure a few things would have ended up in my possession. For now though, it's a nice place to pop in and look around, and gawk at the vintage things I just can't afford!

Its commercialised no doubt, but the basement is what I liked. Why? The next time you step in take a look at the basement items, its not displayed, well like the upstairs; but there are pieces of furniture that I would love to get my hands on. Its totally a cool site to see; old genuine wooden furniture and valuable. I also like the collection of vintage phones that they have kept locked in a showcase. But the prices are crazy! and I'm not spending that kind in credit crunch season. I wonder if they are meant to be sold at all with that price tag. hhmmmm! The children's section I found very interactive, but its mostly decorative stuff like alphabetic letters, dolls, wooden toys, puzzles, more soft toys, and lots more of course. But you have to look around really well to spot something of interest. I think some of the items are very pricey, the store is not designed in a child friendly design. Its like being in a tennis court watching the ball travel. Neck-racking!

Here you need to be prepared before going in as it's a flashback in childhood. All the games you had when you were a child are there. When girls were playing cooking and boys small cars. Small food and small copy of what you are using everyday. They are not expensive and they let you touch everything. Be prepared to feel like a child. There are also sweets from yesterday that I had forgot. Plenty of souvenirs and new intelligent games. Downstairs, it's all abot furniture and wood, all classic but stylish. Go there if you want to buy something you won't regret it.

This shop sells really sweet tasteful gifts and toys, stocking filler bits that you'd probably never buy for yourself but love to give to other people. It's perfect around Christmas when it's Just William retro aesthetic seems comforting and appropriate but it's a handy place to pop in if you've got difficult men (fathers, brothers, boyfriends...) or children to buy for. The toys are really fun, I always leave with that childhood feeling of really wanting something, even though I know I'd go off it as soon as I got home but you can have a little play with most things when you're in the shop.

I think the thing with furniture stores is that there is never one which covers all your needs…read more There's always something that seems not quite right that you need to go somewhere else for. So it is with Habitat. I like a lot of their furniture, but their lighting doesn't do it for me, for example. I like their cutlery, but I'm less keen on their crockery. And so on. This is quite a nice Habitat store, laid out attractively over two floors, on the King's Road near Chelsea Town Hall. The staff are generally helpful, they have a nice range of accessories to complement the furniture, and they have regular, good sales. The one major item I did buy from Habitat was my dining table. Although it is "partially self-essembly", it is still a lovely solid piece of furniture and, unusually, opens out on the long side to form a square, which seats eight. It's great for working on, too. So spot on in design terms for me. I was a little nervous about home delivery - my flat is 78 stairs up, with no lift - but the delivery staff were cheerful and came exactly when they said they would, waited for me to check everything was as it should be, and that there was no damage, and then took away the packaging. That is what I regard as good service.

I never gave a bad review! But Habitat on-line well deserves it!…read more If I could I would NOT give one star! I bought my product (plate sets) on-line. I was told it would take 2-3 days to get my order delivered..after 6 days my order hadn't arrived. Called customer services as I was expecting visitors in some days time and absolutely needed these plates!! I was told the order went to the wrong place but would be with me on time for when I needed it. Plates arrived over a week later (No plates for visitors). The box was ripped (no "fragile" label) and plates were broken. I complained and was offered a £10 voucher to spend in their own store?! as a "goodwill" gesture from habitat?! I asked to return and get a refund after such a poor service. I was home on expected time of collection. No one knocked my door and I received an email saying collection failed because no one was home?! (NO note was left on my doorstep either!) I called habitat saying that they were not at my place! I asked if they could contact the driver and I was told they could not contact the driver?! Drivers have no phone number?! This is the worse service I have ever came across with.. it is very disappointing, especially when you pay the extra money for the quality!

When I moved to London several years back, I think it took me about a year to figure out one could buy household goods someplace other than argos. Of course, I lived in halls near covent garden, so I give myself a small excuse for that idiocy. Now that I'm in Camden, I generally head to A&K for all the little bits and peices of kitchen and other assorted household stuff I may need (for those who have done time in the states, I often go here for the random sorts of things that used to have me Target-bound). They are not infallible, nor would I go there for sparkling service (not bad mind, they just basically leave you alone), but I find that if I can't find something random in A&K, there's a decent chance I won't find it anywhere else nearby either.

The shop is pretty god damn big as well, reaching very far back from the entrance.. in a true warehouse fashion. The staff responded well to my approaches (not in that way) - 'Yes I would like to buy a bed' 'Right this way sir!' Good lads. And a good shop, with competitive prices and a distinct lack of competition in the area, I imagine they are making a pretty penny for themselves - and with friendly staff like Mike available, they probably deserve it!

This shop has so many things and it's overwhelming and hilarious and fun at the same time. For example, I bought a little popcorn set for my mom here for 8 pounds, and then I saw those crazy purses here, you know, the ones that look silly and are made up of shiny triangles and you think they look stupid but then when you touch them you start to think you want then? You know those crazy purses? the 500 pound ones? You know those kinds?!?! And then I guess they sell furniture here. But they also sell funny little games, and also these intricately designed santa cookies, and cards and just weird freaking stuff! That's the funny thing about the Conran Shop. It has a lot of fun stuff and maybe something is 8 pounds, or 800 pounds, you just need to check. But the best thing about the Conran Shop is their little cafe in the back. It's decorated beautifully and they serve food as well. I love going there. They've got wifi and it's a great place to escape... also because there aren't usually a ton of people there. So hopefully I've lost everyone with my crazy purse description to read the end of this review. ;)
