The food is incredible, huge portions and delicious. The staff are so sweet. We hope you stick around for a long time.

I'll echo what the other reviewer said. This isn't fine dining, it's basically take-out grade food -however with those expectations- it's fine enough fare. I had a beef kabab as an appetizer ($3.99) and the chicken curry as a main course ($7.83)- very reasonable prices for a sit-down restaurant. The curry was nothing to rave about- microwaved and pretty basic. Maybe it would have some pizzaz if it was fresh. But as a healthy alternative to Quiznos, Mr. Sub or all the deep-fried fish in this town- it's decent food. I loved the kabab, though, spicy beef and veggies covered with a sauce and served on a hot pita-style naan. These would be a hit if served chicken-shawarma-style to university kids. When I go back I'll probably just buy a couple of these as my meal. Give the place a try. read more

Tasty, cheap, large portions. I've only been once but I'll go again! I got the non-vegetarian special which was chicken korma with chick peas, green beans, rice, and an assortment of other vegetables. It's only $10 so you really can't go wrong! read more

I went there for lunch, and honestly wasn't amazed. However, it's an Afghan restaurant in dang NL, of all places, and for that alone deserves a little love. The food is basically on-par with local Indian places (slightly different, but related), and actually a little more affordable, so no reason not to try here over other South Asian joints. It's nothing fancy, and the dining area is small, but it's a little taste of far-away in a city with not much foreign chow options, so worth a shot. read more

I usually get the non-vegetarian special. The plate has a lot of food and is all pretty flavorful. Afghan Restaurant is a good choice for a quick, reasonably priced plate. There is very limited seating available so call ahead if you plan on going with a group of more than 4. read more

Cheap and cheerful Afghani food. Sometimes the food seems reheated, other times it appears to be fresh. It's very basic inside, but a refreshing break from the pub food nearby. Simple delicious food. Had the vegetarian platter - served with lentils, cabbage, squash, carrots, zucchini - each cooked differently with spices and served on a bed of basmati rice. Very flavorful - kind of like mild Indian food. They seem to have limited hours and we twice went when they were closed. Glad we tried them the third time. read more

The service is always prompt and friendly. The food is consistently delicious (try the non-veg plate and the kebab, also the chai tea and the baklava are yummy). The dinner prices are the most reasonable in all of downtown St. John's. This place reminds me of one of those hole-in-the-wall authentic restaurants that Toronto is teeming with. I really enjoyed this restaurant. Service and food was good. We are vegan so sometimes we are a little anxious about trying new places but the waiter new exactly what we meant when we said we were vegan. The pakoras were very tasty and we had the veggie meal which was delicious. The restaurant is small (about 6 tables or so) but the waiter was way friendlier and attentive than I've experienced in high-end restaurants. Our bill was not too expensive either (about $13 or so for main course, appetizer and a mango juice). It's nice to be able to go somewhere casual that offer vegan options. read more
