Mom n Pop shop, we noted on google reviews a 4.9 !!
That's REALLY high, so tried to book for a celebratory dinner, sadly no wine allowed?
Nice young man over the phone explained the government wanted 1000 bucks for the 'license' to allow guests to bring their OWN bottle - NOT for him to sell - he had no interest in THAT - but with lockouts lockdowns slowdowns etc - he's been waiting 5 months - no wine allowed - period - at this time.
We went elsewhere on THAT occasion but dined IN tonight sans wine.
Our Afghan roast, a Main served with salad and flatbread - a delightfully slow roast front shank of lamb - tiny serving of meat 75% bone - deliciously herbed and oh so flavoursome - it was a treat - pleased we came in - would have been better on this chilly evening....with a hearty red vino - nonetheless we two agreed - they did a nice job.
Black / green Afghan tea was also tasty and appreciated the HOT slightly rose water notes coming through = good LIGHT meal.
Service is polite.
No refill on tea offered so a 'no linger' policy ?
46 bucks for two = so so value, a small portion of protein to be sure.
Clean tidy not ornate but functional setting on restaurant row; George Street
(across from BARISTA, whom in our experience is # 1 in Palmerston North in all categories)
we LOVE mom n pop shops and seek them out.
Afghan Darbar is "A OK".
On the yelpmeter a 3.4 star experience.
