I would give less than a 1 if possible. I am a nurse and have worked in Hospice. I admitted my…read moreMom into their care upon discharge from the hospital (admitted pain control). They had her pain under control but had been providing too much medication so she was loosing time. She did not want to be so medicated that she couldn't spend time with family. I am several states away so was doing this by phone. The first day I was able to visit with Mom via video chat. She seemed like she was doing ok. Had pain but nothing she couldn't deal with and said she slept well the night before in her own bed. That was the last time I was able to talk to her. She was then so OVER MEDICATED that she was comatose!! She wasn't eating or drinking and when I determined that medication was the issue I had the medication control turned over to the facility she was in. A nurse from this hospice called my sister to complain that I was withholding medication and they didn't see any reason another family member couldn't administer medication. Even though my Mom was unable to communicate with any of her children. My sister agreed with my decision and stated under no circumstance was anyone to provide our Mom with medication but the pharmacy in the facility!! I then fired Compassus and acquired another hospice (which the facility recommended) Heartlite Hospice. It was already too late due to Mom's condition due to lack of food and liquids. I did not get to tell my Mother goodbye which I will always regret. My Mom was released into Compassus Hospice care on 11-2 alert and oriented able to eat and drink and died on 11-8. She didn't stand a chance with all the medications she was given at 115lbs and only taken pain medications a few times in her life due to being uncomfortable with the way they made her feel. If you love your family member do not utilize this hospice.
