When I arrived, I found I had been scheduled with Dr. Gerald Dietz rather than the referred doctor. Apparently, Dr. Shea only works there on Fridays, having a larger practice in Rochester. This turned out to be the second worst dental appointment of my life, surpassing only my first experience with a dentist at age 5 when the "child friendly" dentist tied me to the chair and stuck his finger down my throat to stop me from crying (apparently it scared the other children). Dr. Dietz did neither of these things, but adminstered the most painful anesthetizing shots I have ever had, and did not schedule enough time for the entire root canal, necessitating a second appointment a week later. The root canal was properly done, and after insisting on speaking with him about his injection methods, the second appointment was not particularly traumatic. I know I was terrified at the idea of a root canal, which turned out to be no big deal once the pain killers were working, so I take some responsibility for being tense. I did, however, explain this in advance multiiple times to EVERYONE in the practice, as well as the doctor. He was uncommunicative and seemed rushed. I will not return.

The dentist decided to use a " light dose" of lidocaine to start (no valid reason). I had extreme pain in the middle of the procedure for no valid reason. Numbing gel was applied to my daughters' gums and he tried to get her to open wide to numb her mouth with the needle. After a few tries of us trying to get her to do so, she was crying and scared, and the dentist reply was "I don't have all morning to sit here and fight with her I have more patience". My daughter apologized as if she did something wrong. I let her know that she was not wrong for being afraid and I let the dentist know it was EXTREMELY unprofessional for him to make a comment like that in front of a child and if he had something negative to say he could have took me in the hallways as the parent, as she's already an afraid child in a dentist chair that's going to be more afraid when she feels your energy is negative as if she has done something wrong. He let me know I can reschedule and I told him we would never. The nice assistant cleans my child up, we checked out and left. If the dentist is not kid friendly maybe a practice would be not to take children as a patient!

Dr. Aminlari/A2 endodontics was able to get me in within one week for a "questionable" tooth that was only intermittently hurting. They were able to provide me a price range over the phone when I scheduled, and on the day of the appointment the office staff and technician were very personable, open and friendly. I waited less than 5 minutes in the waiting room, and this was only because I had arrived a bit early. I have an unfortunate anatomy/physiology such that it is difficult to get adequately numbed- it takes a lot of shots and extra time to block pain signals. Dr. Aminlari was committed to making sure I was as comfortable, and was not at all judgmental or rushed like most other dentists that I have seen. He was not concerned about the time it took; while it required some trial an error to see if the local was adequate, he was very responsive to my indications of pain and immediately stopped to administer more when needed. The actual root canal procedure was very quick (especially compared to others I have had). He was also very patient with all of my nosey curious questions about tooth anatomy, and which intrument does what, haha. It was a chunk of money for me to be sure- but an imminently fair and reasonable price, in my opinion, given the years of education, training, costs associated with running a business, employing staff, etc. Also, I have paid a lot more at other dental specialists for inexcusably poor service/outcome, so I am more than happy to pay someone who does a great job and is also kind. Who wants a root canal? Literally no one. Did it hurt a little at times? Yes, but they did everything in their power to minimize this; they were super nice and responsive and I felt safe there. They got me out the door in just over an hour. They even called the next day to check on how I was doing, which is rare these days. If you find yourself in the unfortunate situation of needing a root canal, no worries this is the place.

On June 24th, 2004 I had my appointment for a root canal and Dr. Racek reminded me about possible outcomes and also reassured me that the procedure wouldn't hurt and ya know what?!? He was right. He applied the gel that numbed the area for the needle and told me I'd feel a little poke but I felt nothing at all. The last 2 injections I felt a teeny bit but that's not even worth mentioning here. (Although as you can see, I did mention it here.) They let the anesthesia set in and soon Dr. Racek began his work. His calm and confidence rested easily on my mind, and he'd reassure me telling me things were going well. The 2 gals that assisted him showed perfection at their own jobs and they worked together supremely well. All 3 of them, really. I was told the procedure could last an hour to an hour and a half, but with the expertise and the perfectly scripted requirements of each of their positions, they were done in just over half an hour. I was in awe, dumbfounded and amazed at the end of it. Done so soon? Wow! Not to mention I was very happy, too. Back at home the anesthesia wore off after a bit and I had no pain at all. Who can recommend Dr. Racek at the Root Canal Specialty Associates in Livonia? *Raising my hand* I hollered "ME!" One more thing ... I don't think I properly thanked Dr. Racek before I left but I am very thankful for him and his abilities and this is my thank you to him right here Thank you!.

The office itself is extremely sharp, modern, and clean. Each room has it's own flat screen which doubles as a computer monitor. The chairs are some of the most comfortable I have ever experienced in a Dentist's office, and also have a massage function. Dr. Dietz himself was highly professional, friendly, kind, and compassionate. His bedside manner was phenomenal, and he was very patient. Dr. Dietz uses a microscope that I have never seen used before during the surgery, that allows him to zoom in much further. The procedure itself was uncomfortable at times(as Root Canals are), but all in all I feel he did a very good job, certainly better than my previous Root Canal(done by a different Dentist). He was kind enough to call and check on me after hours, which I really appreciated. He squeezed me in as well, on a day he was booked. He obviously cares very highly about his patients. All in all a wonderful experience. I recommend him highly, if you are ever in need of the much dreaded Root Canal!
