I came here after a failed surgery trying to get off of opiates they left me for 30 hours without any medical support or medication they claim to offer detoxification but they only offer it Monday through Friday because weekends there are no available doctors or nurse practitioners And may I say not even doctors there's only nurse practitioners that you can call and talk to they claimed to offer a detoxification, but they don't,NO DOCTOR ONLY NURSE PRACTITIONERS . They told me a doctor would be available Monday through Friday. Only a nurse practitioner WAS AVAILABLE TO CALLcould be called over the weekend. They promised a 24 hour nurse doctor. None of that was true. They promised 24 hour chef. None of that was true. The chef provides no breakfast. He only provides lunch and he leaves a dinner for us to warm up for later. I'm not complaining about the chef. He is a very nice man and Karen one of the therapist. There is a wonderful lady. She really does care about patients. The conditions were unacceptable at this treatment center there were blood stains on all the sheets there were stains throughout everywhere. The bathrooms were dirty. Everything was dirty. They only have someone come in deep clean every two months.. I was forced to Detox in a shared room with a roommate who kept the TV blasting until midnight watching crime murders horrific TV shows that only added to my PTSD and in no way would she turn it down on a high volume because of her hearing I have never been to a treatment center where they placed you in withdrawal with another person in your room without proper medical care supervision or even a therapist even the Uber driver who picked me up said I was the third person that was leaving early because of how bad this place is that says everything the center should not even be allowed to operate What they are doing feels both unsafe and unlawful vulnerable people deserve real help not false promises and neglect there are plenty of other places that provide proper treatment and care please for your own safety look elsewhere. I rarely write reviews. This may be my fourth review ever and I'm 45 years old, but I feel strongly care about people trying to overcome addiction.i truly believe in karma I truly hope this message reaches anyone who is struggling and searching for the right help. the last 30 hours that I was there was a complete horror that I will never forget and I wish upon no one that this happens please there are so many other treatment centers that don't offer false promises and lies. While the facility itself is beautiful and the accommodations are luxurious, luxury should not be confused with effective treatment. Reaching out for help was one of the hardest things I've ever done. Instead of leaving feeling empowered and equipped with the knowledge and practical tools I needed, I left frustrated and disappointed with the mental health care system. I don't feel I received the solid educational foundation or long-term coping strategies I was hoping for. They forced their views on to me. I felt trapped. I did not have a wonderful experience and if I ever have to do the rehab circuit again I will definitely be using places that are covered by my insurance. While there were staff members who genuinely cared and tried to help, my overall experience did not meet the expectations I had for such a highly regarded place. I sincerely hope Avalon continues to improve by listening to former clients and placing greater emphasis on respect, boundaries, practical life skills, individualized education, and preparing people for the realities they'll face after discharge. Beautiful surroundings alone cannot replace the knowledge, compassion, and lasting support that people in recovery truly need. I don't think most people understand how hard it is to ask for help. I only write this review so the next person can understand that Avalon is not for everyone. I brought most of my belongings with me only to have 98% of them taken from me upon arrival. Do your research before you spend tons of money on any program that doesn't improve your actual life and give you your own voice back. Care can be personalized. Many of the groups are foundational to success. I had a two month stay. I was challenged by surf lessons and I persisted in the instruction. There is plenty of Therapy and meetings. The outings and beach walks were perhaps my favorite activities. Very few people actually want to be in a treatment center but as far as they go, Avalon does pretty well for itself. Housekeeping and cuisine are well attended.
