He heard I got hit on the trail, so he wanted to make sure I wasn't afraid to ride again. He took me out on a tandem. He and a friend fixed my handlebars and took me out on the Capital Trail (the scene of the crime) for a quick lung check. Be extra careful even at the light signals. I'm recovering from getting hit on the Capital Trail at the crosswalk on New Market Road with the "push button light." Some drivers stop and some don't I managed to get away with just a concussion, some Fractured ribs, small puncture in left lung, and bruises/abrasions on my elbows. I'm in pain but I'm so grateful to be alive!!!! I remember proceeding through the light because a car stopped after pushing the button, but I don't recall getting hit as I proceeded to cross. I guess that's an additional blessing b/c I know I would be too afraid to ride again. Y'all be safe and keep cycling!!! Pain killers and people like Elvin keeping me going. read more

Yesterday (6/18) Barb and I rented two mountain bikes from Adventures in RVA. Noah was super helpful in matching up good bikes for our needs, threw in some extras, offered lots of advice and route suggestions, and was overall a really nice guy to chat with. We never felt rushed or attempt to oversell us on anything. In fact, their rental prices are very, very affordable. They have a HUGE selection of bikes, so they should be able to match you up with whatever they need. They include helmets in the rental, and have extras like padded seat covers and bike locks. All in all, it was a great experience meeting Noah and using their service. Highly recommended! read more

I had the best experience renting a bike from Adventures in RVA at 1921 E Main St. The staff went WAY beyond in providing customer service in selecting & fitting the bike to me and then in showing me a LOT of specifics on a map for routes I could take. I felt confident when I left both on the bike and in where I was going. I so appreciated the information and the customer service attitude. The price, while not inexpensive, was the lowest of all the places I checked and it was very close to the bike trails. I would definitely rent here again and cannot recommend it highly enough! I was in town for a limited amount of time and wanted to rent bikes with my brother to do the Capitol Trail. We called but this shop was closed (it was a Tuesday). Cam called us back because he happened to be in the shop and told us to come in and he could help us out! Cam couldn't have been more helpful! Even though my first experience with them was not god, the manager contacted me directly to apologize for the inconvenience and he made everything he could to make sure that we would come back and enjoy the experience that Adventures in RVA provides. As soon as we come in, it was a great pleasure. We got measured to ensure that the bike had the right height. We were offered to wear helmets if we wanted as well as some backpacks. As we started to ride along Capital Trail, we realized that the bikes were high quality. I would recommend these place to everyone, but make sure to get in touch with them in advance, so you will not have the problems I had in my first visit. After actually being able to ride and talking to the owner, I had one of the best experience ever! He is super helpful, he gives you all you need and more! He checks the bikes, the seat, he tells you where to go, and he provides helmets, snack bars, water bottles and more! After my two experiences I think it is unfair to give a 5 star! However, I am going to repeat my experience pretty soon and if it goes as well as this one, I will change to five! If you are looking to rent bikes, I encourage you to call the Monday before that weekend you want to go, set it up, and just enjoy your ride!!! This is one of the cheapest places I've ever rented a bike from (at least for hourly rental) and the service was fantastic. The staff is incredibly friendly and they know a lot about Richmond so they'll give you suggestions on fun places to take the bikes to and where to go for good food! Best of all, they give you a lot of leeway for keeping the bikes out longer than you planned to. I paid for two hours but wound up keeping the bike for three and they didn't charge me even though I offered to pay. Gestures like that take a lot of the stress out of renting a bike since it's very hard to actually predict how long you'll be riding for and constantly having to check your watch really takes the fun out of a ride! Their location is extremely convenient-you can easily get to Great Shiplinks Park and the gorgeous Virginia Capital Trail without having to spend much time riding on the street to get there (important for people like me who don't trust drivers and prefer the safety of the trail). If riding on the street is your thing though, you'll have plenty of options as well thanks its downtown location! read more

Me and my wife traveled an hour and a half to get there so we could bike Virginia Capital trail. They had 3 signs that said they were open. We not only knocked but we rang the door bell twice and nobody answered. Terrible service plus me and my wife had to leave. I wish I could give 0 stars. read more

This bike shop was great! The staff were very friendly and helpful. We rented one bike, but the staff also offered to put air in the tires for several other folks in our group, as well as helping trouble-shoot a brake problem. My friend and I rented bikes to ride the Capitol Trail all the way to Chickahominy State Park and back for an overnight tour. We emailed to reserve and ask questions a couple months in advance and easy to come in and pick up. Staff were super friendly to help us pick out the bikes we wanted and even lent us a saddle bag. Then we were running late to return but we called and they stayed ten minutes past their closing time to receive us! Highly recommend. No problems with our bikes + lots of fun to ride the trail. :) read more

Adventures in RVA really is as good as it gets! Two thumbs up for me! This family business has a vast selection of high quality bikes and even has kayaks! Alex is super knowledgeable and the location can't be beat. They are located in close proximity to the Capitol Trail for easy access and fast return. I saw another review that listed them as closed. This is completely inaccurate. I called before I stopped by their shop. Definitely call them before stopping by. I spoke with Alex on the phone and they are open every day except on Mondays and Tuesdays, they are available by appointment and reservation only. Their phone is also not disconnected. Alex assisted me with picking out the perfect bicycle for my needs, which included helmet, lock and bag. He also explained to me more about the Capitol Trail and the Richmond area, as well as best places for riding. I ended up staying out about 30 minutes over and he didn't even charge me for it. I was happy to see the trails were back open after being stuck at home for so long. Unfortunately, adventures in RVA false advertised being open. We saw multiple signs saying they were open, however upon arrival no one would help us. We rang the door bell and even knocked and no service was provided. PLEASE do not advertise being open if you are NOT open. A shame for a beautiful trail to be ruined by poor service. read more

My friend and I were down to the day and wanted to check out the Richmond Capital Trail. We saw a flyer in our hostel for RVA Bike Rentals and we are so glad we did! Elvin was so helpful and went out of his way to ensure we had everything we needed for our bike ride- proper fitting bike, helmets, a bag, and a lock. He pointed out suggested alternate routes on a map for us as well. Additionally the prices were great at $8/hr. The location is perfect, only a few blocks from the Richmond Capital Trail. Overall, wonderful experience and would highly recommend for anyone looking to bike Richmond! read more

As bad as it gets. Rented a hybrid bike for two days. Worked fine in the stand, but on the road with the slightest pressure on the pedals it went snap, crackle, pop with every turn of the crank. Not subtly; I could feel it through the pedals, seat, and handlebars. Found a bike shop to see if it could be fixed, thinking it might be the bottom bracket, rear axle, or freewheel. Their diagnosis was the chain was the wrong size and would not settle down on the gear cluster. They did not have a proper chain in stock. I sucked it up and continued on with my ride, only to discover on the first steep hill that the front derailleur did not work. Would not shift up or down. I finally got to the point that I could stop, dismount, turn the crank with my hand, and get the front gears to downshift. When I returned the bike the attendant in the shop did not say a word when I described the problems. Not even to say "Oh" or "I'm sorry". They also charged me an extra $10 per day for keeping the bike overnight; this is not mentioned anywhere on their website. There has been no offer of restitution. I will never, ever do business with these people again and recommend them to no one. I am a very, very experienced cyclist. I made the mistake of trusting that this was a legitimate business. This worthless bike ruined a long-anticipated adventure. read more

This place offered my and my family the best customer service I have ever experienced. My sister and I took our 8 kids bike riding, but soon found we we're in over our head. Elvin and his son, not only closed up shop to help our group navigate around town, but they also took pictures for us too. The also came and picked us up after we went swimming so that we did not have to ride all the way back to the shop. None of this was prearranged, they jumped in on the spot and totally saved us!!! read more
