What a great adventure!
Elizabeth S.

My nephew and I had such a wonderful Sunday afternoon outing. It started out pretty quiet without a lot of nearby wildlife activity. We were quietly prepared for just a lovely afternoon on the water, but Capt Rick didn't give up and followed the signs (birds) to the right area. We soon found 100s of playful dolphins and a majestic whale and spent a long time respectfully marveling at the activities of both. Could not have asked for a better adventure. The intimate size of the boat with just 6 passengers and the proximity to the ocean life made it so much better than a big boat. Would absolutely recommend this outing.

Our group had an amazing time seeing and learning about the long and short beaked common dolphins. Captain Kyle was very knowledgeable and made sure we all had a blast. We were lucky to see so many calves in a nursery pod of over 200 dolphins, and it was truly an amazing experience. I highly recommend Adventure's tours if you're in the area. Their boats are an ethical way to experience the local aquatic life.

Chris is absolutely incredible! From the moment we stepped aboard, his expertise, enthusiasm and deep knowledge made the trip so much more than just a boat ride. It was an adventure! He's extremely knowledgeable about marine life, but also thoughtful and considerate, especially with my son, making sure he was comfortable engaged and engaged throughout the journey. Thanks to Chris. We had a rare breathtaking opportunity witness hundreds of dolphins playfully swimming alongside us and even spotted a few majestic humpback whales! It was truly an experience we will never forget. If you're looking for a skilled, personable and passionate captain to guide you on an amazing Waeil watching trip, Chris is the one I highly recommend! Thank you, Chris for such an unforgettable day!

Our group... personal and amazing ! Thank you

What a perfect day with Captain Dave and his expertise and respect of the water and the whales ! Thank you!!!

Dolphins on both sides of our boat.

What a great adventure!! We did not see any whales on this trip but we got to become part of a pod of over a 100 common dolphins. Captain Rick was the best and so knowledgable. I would strongly recommend this to everyone. It was absolutely amazing looking left and right and being surrounded by dolphins.

Grey whale and calf in front of the old schooner

Fantastic morning trip with Captain Sam! Beautiful weather, saw a momma and calf grey whale and an amazing pod of common dolphins. Also, got to see the old Schooner! Captain Sam was very knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommended! Great fun!

The rare blue whale!

Our family of 5 went on the 3:30 tour on July 3, 2024. Our captain Kyle Hargrave was full of knowledge and made the whole family feel comfortable. The ride out to the whale area was fast and unexpectedly smooth. When we arrived we stared to search for whale spots. To our excitement we found two and were able to watch two rare blue whales swimming. After watch these beautiful creates for a while Kyle took us out further to a large pod of dolphins jumping and playing. Kyle got the dolphins to swim right along side the boat, so close we could have touched them. We then returned to the whale area where we were able to see one of the blue whales again before returning to the marina. This fulfilled our dream of seeing whales with our kids! I would highly recommend adventure whale watching to any family or group that wants to have a more personal experience that exceeded our expectations.

No whales. The boat rides was so fun though. I could see why people would say it was "rough" but that's the way it goes in this part of the Pacific and on a fast boat. TOTALLY fun but most importantly safe. It's cold you guys! They give you a suit which is warm but dress accordingly. Captain Sam was fantastic and put safety first. He didn't rush us, had great music playing, and had the best sense of humor. We saw several different dolphin pods, birds, and seals. So worth it. Hoping to see whales next time.

Captain Rick was an excellent guide. He was extremely knowledgeable about the sea life and was able to get us close to the whales. My picture doesn't come close to how amazing our adventure was. I was so busy enjoying the journey that I didn't get the best whale shots. I highly recommend this adventure!

Dolphin air time.
Dana S.

Fantastic time. Was somewhat leery of booking as my 6yr old is scared of the ocean. Captain Kyle was great with him and he got to see hundreds of dolphins. We missed the whale watching season but kids had a blast seeing the dolphins and didn't get seasick. Definitely booking again next time in town.

Good service from the landing, easy check in and since my annual Mexican fishing license had expired the H&M tackle shop was able to renew my annual Mexican fishing license on the spot. For example my rod tip eyelet came off after I boarded a multi day trip on the Relentless. This was going to be my main rod for the trip. I took it up to the tackle shop and pleaded for help. It was 15 minutes before closing. This young punk said he was the manager and told me they would not do it. The incredible Danny Wade fixed it for me anyway. Down on the boat some guy came running down, all in a panic, saying the manager was demanding $7.83 for the repair. I gave him $50 and told him to give the change to Danny Wade. I killed it that trip with that setup. When I got back in, I asked Danny if he got the change money. He did not. Grrr!

We also saw a baby grey baleen whale which was such a treat. But even sightings aside it was a lovely way to be out on the water. The crew to our boat were great. Knowledgeable and ensured everyone was having a good time. They recommend you get there 45 minutes early and definitely do so! You sign in and then line up. A lot of people can be fit on their boat (if you get the group one) and the line can get pretty large and it's first come first sit. For 10 bucks a pop you can go on early. For 200 dollars you get the exclusive front top deck. I recommend sitting at the top. Please note that means sometimes no shade so bring a hat. You can sit on the first level or inside in the shade. The boat has a bathroom and after 3 miles you can get drinks! If you park in the lot attached to their location it's 10 dollars. Or you can street park on Quivera road which I recommend as it was super easy and not a walk at all. Would highly recommend regardless of if you see any whales just for the joy of being out on the water.

Since I booked the nighttime dinner cruise, I only paid around $5 for parking, which was super reasonable. Getting into City Cruises San Diego was really easy the check-in process was smooth, they just took our names, and we were good to go. My boyfriend and I went on the two-hour dinner cruise, and it was such a fun experience. The ticket is around $150, but honestly, it felt worth it. Just being out on the water at night made it special. The service was great, and the staff was super friendly the entire time. The food was actually surprisingly good. You aren't just looking at history -- you're surrounded by ships that actually survived it. The Star of India, launched in 1863, survived mutiny, violent storms, collisions at sea, and decades carrying immigrants across dangerous oceans. Some sailors believed the ship was cursed after captains died during early voyages, yet somehow she survived long enough to become the oldest active sailing ship in the world. HMS Surprise shows the brutal reality of naval warfare during the Age of Sail. Ships like this once carried enough cannon firepower to destroy enemy vessels while sailors lived packed below deck surrounded by gunpowder, disease, and fear of battle. The Berkeley steam ferry even helped evacuate survivors during the 1906 San Francisco earthquake while much of the city burned. One of the most fascinating exhibits is the Soviet B-39 submarine from the Cold War. The inside is unbelievably cramped and gives you a real sense of what life was like beneath the ocean during one of the most dangerous periods in modern history. The USS Dolphin may have been my favorite. This experimental deep-diving U.S. Navy submarine helped test advanced underwater technology and launched the deepest-fired torpedo in naval history. The museum also includes the San Salvador, recreating the ship that explored California's coastline in 1542 -- long before America existed as a country. What makes this place incredible is the timeline it creates: 1500s exploration... 1800s global sailing... steam-powered industry... world wars... Cold War submarines... All sitting together in one harbor. This place doesn't just teach maritime history -- it shows how ships shaped exploration, immigration, trade, warfare, and entire empires.
