I dont remember Cannon Hill park being so beautiful! Visited here recently as part of a food…read morefestival and was taken back by just how lovely the place is! Now my lack of realisation was probably due to the fact I was trying to avoid being bitten by the aggressive ducks that used to roll round the pond like a carte when I was a child.....but i was young.....and about half the size so they seemed a lot more intimidating at the time. I am happy to confirm I walked past them with ease this time around and had more time to enjoy the picturesque surroundings! The park is pretty huge and boasts a nice pond complete with fountain/water feature to impress even the Charlie Dimmock types....swan boats, a theatre, crazy golf and many walkways and paths to enjoy. Perfect for a day out with the kids....or to keep that inner child satisfied. You will find me here a fair bit over the summer I think....get me to the ice cream van...now!

Hall Leys is one of the biggest and best parks in the lovely spa town of Matlock some 30 miles…read moreoutside of Manchester. The quaint little town is absolutely lovely, and is well worth a visit from Manchester. If you do visit, make sure this park is on your list of places to visit. Its absolutely lovely, and has everything from nice green spaces for picnics and flower beds, a pitch and putt mini golf course, tennis courts, a skate park, a bowling green, a kids paddling pool and swimming area, a kids adventure playground, a Victorian band stand, a lake with boats, and a cafe, and an ice cream shop. Its even got a tiny little train that runs through the park, that kinds can sit on! So whether you want a quiet stroll, a picnic, a motor boat ride on the lake, a lovely cup of coffee or a whole day out with the family full of entertainment, then this is the place for you. This is categorically my favorite park. Five stars.

Indoor Olympic set up also which is available to locals and schools etc for training indoors. Great customer service and always help full. Showers and lockers available with drinks machine and food. There's also plenty of room for the circuits in the aerobics room. (I do Claire's circuits - you do the same if you want to get trained hard!) There's loads of outdoor space. There's the Wolverhampton indoor football training facility, outdoor grass football pitches, outdoor astro football pitches, tennis courts, cycle track, running track and a field in the middle of that for everything else! There's probably a lot more that I'm forgetting, too! No swimming pool though. Plenty of places to park.

This is a natural attraction for all kinds of wildlife. There's a visitor centre manned by friendly and knowledgeable staff who take pride in their work. There's a Ranger Service too which is always on hand to help with education. Get children involved early with the Plantsbrook Young Explorers club which meet every third Saturday of the month, it's for 7 - 11 year olds and membership is absolutely free. Of course this area is used by the usual dog-walkers, joggers, strollers and so on but my advice when you pay a visit is to get involved, ask the staff about stuff, you'll be surprised what you learn.
