Came here for a hip injection (not cool, modern, and groovy but rather anatomically located left…read morepelvis proximal end of my femur) and I was rather anxious having researched the procedure. Of course I also researched the surgeon, one very capable fellow named Dr. Edwards who has an impressive training and experience record. Yes, I have trust issues. He was just the right combination of confidence, respectful bedside manner, and efficacy that made me feel silly when it was over and done with in the blink of an eye. For procedures like this, do not look at the needles, but do be aware of how far away (in surgeon's distances) important nerves are from said needles. The current imaging technology that allows for well guided needle insertion also makes these extremely low risk routine procedures. I'm still talking to myself here. The clinic is clean, the staff is very good, I especially appreciate being treated as if I'm not old and confused when I do provide some evidence that this might be the case. I do not see the need for the physician's assistant, seemed a superfluous extra cost layer but that's American Healthcare. The only complaint I have is a pretty serious one, it's very hard to get in for an appointment in the first place. I was referred 6 weeks before the procedure by my Ascension nurse practitioner (excellent btw, NPs are a better choice for primary care) but I had to call myself. The first four calls didn't get me through a completely non-medical screening agent who was only interested in my financial situation. But also they were all quite incompetent, they could not ascertain, verify that I have Medicare plus supplemental. I do, but since they couldn't substantiate this, they wouldn't make an appointment. I was in considerable discomfort which is why I was persistent, but they clearly do not care about patient pain or health at the entry level. I had to make an appointment with another orthopedic surgeon (another 3 phone calls) who works with Dr. Edwards at another clinic and get referred back to Edwards. All of these phone calls of course have to be while I'm supposed to be working. Then, once scheduled, the surgical clinic has to call and talk to me in person, again while I'm at work and not allowed to take phone calls. It's like the clinic, indeed much of the American healthcare delivery system is stuck in the 20th century for communications technology. Heck, I'm an old man and I learned how to use Google Calendar, Internet messaging, e-mail, and SMS. I know it's possible, my nurse practitioner and her office, and dentist as well can use all of these so communication is quite easy. The getting in part was so unpleasant and inconvenient this might have been a two star review in spite of how adept Dr. Edwards is if it weren't for a single act of respect from the front desk person (I won't name her in case she wasn't supposed to do this) who agreed that the office needs to catch up and move on from late 1900s phone tag. Or maybe I should find my telephone answering machine and hook it back up.

Doctor Jackson, anesthesiologist spent ample time explaining what he was going to do and readily answered all questions, Dr. Parisi, the surgeon, replaced my knee with robotic assist and I was comfortably sitting at home a little after noon. His team is exceptional on returning calls prior to surgery and he and his team continues with excellent communication. Couldn't recommend more highly.

In a world of rushed, unpersonal, and uncaring Dr.s, she stands out as an example of what a doctor should be: caring, compassionate, knowledgeable, and personable. She makes you feel as vauled as a family member. She truly takes time to get to know each patient and ensure she not only listens but truly understands patients' symptoms and concerns. Rather than just writing a prescription to mask the symptoms, she is dedicated to finding the root cause and the plan of care that will best solve that problem. She perfectly balances her doctorates in traditional and natural medicine to meet the needs of the patients and find the path to healing and and optimal health. She is incredibly thorough and detailed in her approach to caring for her patients. Several members of my family are Dr. Brown's patients and they all leave their appointments beyond impressed with Dr. Brown's knowledge, compassion, and dedication to each patient. She is well worth the price and any potential wait. The fact that she doesn't accept insurance, while unfortunate for personal finances, is actually a good thing. Because Dr. Brown doesn't work with insurance, she's not ruled by them. This is why she can care for patients as they need, not as the insurance companies deem "the cheapest approach". If you look at your last co-pay bill from a doctor's visit, you'll see those appointments are billed at THOUSANDS of dollars. Dr. Brown isn't paid by insurance, so her prices of $895 for a new patient and an average of $350 for follow-up appointments (based on complexity), are incredibly reasonable. This is also why she can spend more time with her patients-- without insurance setting their typical limits (see X amount of patients daily and each appointment can only be 15 minutes max), Dr. Brown can dedicate the amount of time the patient needs for each appointment. This is why Dr. Brown's shortest appointment is an hour long, with some scheduled for as long as 90 minutes. Dr. Brown is so dedicated to her patients and ensuring the highest possible care that if a patient's needs exceed the scheduled appointment time, Dr. Brown stays until their needs are met. Dr. Brown prioritizes the patient in front of her. She looks at the whole person: life experiences, each system of the body, and their daily quality of life. There's no other Dr. as thorough, caring, or knowledge. You cannot get a better experience or meet a more dedicated and caring doctor.

Everything was fine until I asked for an increase in a medication she prescribed to me for years. She increased it per my request. Having stressful things going on in my life, I ran out. When I had a problem and ran out, she put my life at risk by stopping the prescription. Her office staff kept on saying that Walgreens had a refill, and they did not. In other words if you have a problem that she contributed to, you are done. My last visit was over $500. Told her that Walgreens did not have a refill. She acted like it would be taken care of, and so did her office staff. It was not taken care of. When I called to tell her office that Walgreens never got the request for a refill, they required another appointment and more money to discuss it. If Dr Brown no longer wanted to precribe the medication, the professional thing to do would be to discuss a taper plan at my last appointment, and not risk the health of a patient. Abrupt discontinuation of this medication is known to cause seizures. I had to find a doctor who cares, after wasting over $500 on my last appointment. It all seems to be about making money, and not about the best interest for the patient anymore. I am very disappointed. I am thinking that I may report this incident to the State of Wisconsin, as this incident could have been life threatening. They never offered my $500 back after not refilling my restriction, even though they said they filled it. I am elderly, and really feel that I was mistreated and disrespected. All over Dr Carol Brown forgetting the oath she took, and her love for money that interred with her truly caring about my well being.

I have had to have Walgreens fill emergency prescription due to this. The customer service here is non-existent. Scheduled appointments are never on time, my last appointment I ended up leaving after waiting 48 minutes past my scheduled time. Patients with appointment times after mine were seen before me. Really! I guess when we see the Dr. don't discuss your COMPLETE medical care or you will be charged for an additional visit. He was only there one time that day not twice. We didn't get a bill for the additional co-pay until 8 months after the visit. It's sad when a patient can't talk to their Doctor about all of their health care needs. Keep it to ONE topic.

My Chief…read moreof Staff came to the Emergency Room on her own after stubbornly ignoring stroke symptoms until the symptoms went away. Thus, what she experienced was a Transient Ischemic Attack, which shaved off a few years of my life from worry. This is pertinent because the young (they are all young) physician and physicians assistant seeing her explained to her why I was concerned and why she should have immediately gone to an Emergency Room when experiencing dizziness and left sided weakness and numbness. I am reporting symptoms so everyone knows the signs of a stroke, slurred speech, weakness or paralysis on one side of the body, dizziness, strange smells (burnt toast), disorientation, especially very early in the morning when blood pressure is usually highest. When you see symptoms like this, get to a real Emergency Room (not an urgent care) right away. If the symptoms go away on their own, it's only a TIA, which is a warning that you or the patient is at higher risk of a true stroke, and it's so much better for diagnosis if you can get the patient to an EKG and CT scan or MRI while they still have the symptoms. If it's a true stroke (a cerebrovascular accident), there's lots of treatment now available that can dramatically increase not just chances of recovery but also the possibility of recovery with good prognosis. Don't spend time in denial. While the physician, PA, nurse, and radiology tech were all great, Froedtert has outrageous rates, and very aggressive billing. Other than the medical staff, the organization is just bloodthirsty bureaucratic capitalist greed incarnate.
