The only reason I gave one star is because there's not zero Stars. First of all I waited over 2 months for this appointment. My appointment was at 3:15 p.m. August 26th. I arrived at the location at 3:05 and unfortunately I could not locate a directory so I called the office and there was no answer. I also have that call on my call log. I wandered around looking for the office and finally found it and got into the office at 3: 18. The coldest most inconsiderate receptionist I have ever seen in the medical field proceeded to tell me my appointment was at 3:00 and I was only allowed 15 minutes and I would have to reschedule. When I explained to her about the directory and walking all around she said I should have called. I told her I did and nobody answered she shrugged her shoulders. She was trying to reschedule me and I was in shock and told them I would call and reschedule. OMG! I was referred to Advantage from my primary care doctor. After many years of working in a shop environment my hearing is getting a little bad. I was interested in having a hearing test and getting hearing aids. I had very mild tinnitus that I hardly noticed. The doctor recommended hearing aids and fitted me for a trial pair. The doctor proceeded to set the volume levels on the hearing aids. I left very happy. Within 3 days my tinnitus was excruciatingly loud. It was distracting me from work, waking me up at night, and overall effecting my whole existence. I removed the hearing aids, but the damage was done. I called up Advantage and explained the problem. Their response was "Oh, well that happens sometimes." What the heck! When you go to a doctor, they are supposed to help with a problem, not make it worse. They refuse to acknowledge that they may have made my hearing worse. These people should not be allowed to practice medicine. Worst doctor experience in my life. THANKS ADVANTAGE! Everytime I've been her (for my 2 year old with an ear infection no less) they have mad us wait at least an hour and then they always blame it on "just waiting for rooms to open up." don't blame the rooms. Terrible staff and process! I didn't check the Yelp reviews before making an appointment as their website only post reviews that are good. Have been dealing with sinus issues for weeks, the doctor basically said it was a migraine but ordered images. went in for images 4 days ago, no word from the doctor- when I called to see what the status was the assistant said I needed to make an appointment and there was nothing available for another week. God forbid I have something really serious going on, this doctor would allow another two weeks before getting back to me. further the assistant recognizing my frustration said "well it's its fine if you want to go somewhere else", unbelievable! if I were to say that directly to my customer, I would be fired. A doctor should not be negligent with his patients, he should have the same level of attention for a sinus infection than a cancer patient, and he should not be so overwhelmed with patients that he forgets to checkin with the status of one as that one could have a very serious problem. I saw Dr. Kooten at Advantage ENT. I had a very bad experience with the offices at Advantage ENT. My negative experience is with their billing and business/office practices and not a reflection of Dr Van Kooten's ability as a doctor. I was seen to evaluate a deviated septum. I paid the office visit copay, was seen by the nurse, and then seen by the doctor. During my visit the doctor asked me to opt into a scope viewing of my nasal passage. He explained to me that it might be uncomfortable, what we would see etc, but made no mention of billing or additional charges. We did the exam and Doctor Kooteen was very helpful explaining to me what we learned. I went through the process of evaluating a surgery to fix my deviated septum and worked with the office over the phone to evaluate the cost. Eventually I learned that it would cost $5,000 to have the procedure done, which was not something I could afford (wish we could have gone over this before I spent so much time with them). I thought I was done with everything, and then a few weeks later I received a bill in the mail for $611. It turns out that I was billed not only for the $150 office visit but much more, $461 more in what felt like a clear attempt to rake my health insurance for every possible dime. My bill was for 3 separate things. The first was the $150 dollar office visit. Then there was a $271 dollar charge for the camera inspection of my nose, and then an additional $190 dollar charge, double billing for the office visit "based on time and level" as was described to me over the phone. The $271 dollar camera procedure was never mentioned as incurring any additional cost and no mention of this was made when asking for my consent. The second office charge adds on a $190 charge in addition to the $150 office visit that was billed (in my opinion it's very unethical to have both a fixed and variable cost for this, and charge for both). I spoke with them over the phone and I was informed that they do not discuss pricing with patients until after they "find out what insurance will cover" unless they're paying out of pocket. This is a great example of how our health care system is manipulated by individual practitioners who charge the maximum possible to insurance companies for services that aren't worth half of what's billed. My insurance covered a majority of this, but I ended up paying $220 out of pocket just to speak to this doctor. read more

I will NEVER return to this office...EVER! There were obvious signs my ear is in distress, the audiologists confirmed some hearing loss and no seal in my right ear drum whatsoever which is where I have excruciating pain. The doc actually said he thinks my ear hurts for lack of wax!? And ordered a CT with dye, couldn't get the dye in so I asked to be sent to the hospital to get the CT done where they could get the IV in he refused and down graded to a reg CT rather than care enough about the pain I'm in to get to the bottom of the issue and do the CT with dye. Everything leads to a perforated eardrum but because he didn't think so he didn't care how much pain I was in. No thank you.. I want a doctor who cares about my situation enough to fight for me. I've been dealing with this pain for 4 years and it's time I find a doc who's gonna not stop til We find the answer. The only nice person there was the audiologists... the front desk wasn't even that friendly. read more

Great staff, friendly, professional, and helpful. Dr. VanKooten is one of the best, if not the best in the field. He probably deals with adults most in the hearing area, however he even treated my daughter who was only 5 at the time for overly sensitive hearing issues. He was really good with her and you could tell he is good with children and adults, including the elderly clients. I trust him with any of my family and friends and would recommend him to anyone. His expertise is impressive. read more

Very frustrated with my experience. All I wanted was a pair of musician's earplugs. I had impressions taken in November and didn't receive the earplugs for 5 WEEKS (supposed to get them back within 2 weeks). I get them back and they are the wrong style. I ask for them to be sent back quickly for a remake and end up waiting another 2-3 weeks before getting the remade pair, which also don't fit correctly. I returned the pair of remade earplugs and it took 3 WEEKS to get (most of ) my money back. Everything here takes forever and the phone system is terrible -you can't talk to a real person until after listening to a dozen menu options every. single. time. you. call. I made at least 6-8 visits to the office throughout this whole process. It was very frustrating and I didn't really feel like anyone cared or was really working with the manufacturer to try to get these earplugs to me in a reasonable timeframe. By the time all was said and done I spent 4 months trying to get a simple pair of earplugs. I will definitely not be returning. read more

I called and made an appt. While I was on the phone, they directed me to their website to fill out all the paperwork ahead of time...about 6 pages worth. They then called me a couple of days before the appt. as a reminder. On the day of my scheduled appt., I show up and start signing in, and they stop me. I tell them my name, and they look at me like I'm from Mars. They have no appt. for me. Nothing. They can see my name in their system, but they don't have an appt. Their guess is that somehow I was "deleted". Now, they tell me they would have to "work me in" because there are patients ahead of me with "real appts." and the wait could be a number of hours. I went in for severe vertigo, that was causing vomiting and I had passed out a couple times. Primary doctor thought it was an inner ear problem, recommended a couple ENT docs and unfortunately I chose wrong. When I went in and after the nurse took my information a woman came in and said I needed a hearing test, I told her I just had one she asked when I said less than a year, she advised I had to have one. I told her my insurance would not cover another one, still insisted. I was so miserable, I think I would have agreed to anything. OF course my hearing was fine since, I had just had a hearing test. DR. Hartemink comes in barely does anything, says I need an MRI and a balance test, saying it could be crystals in the ear, I am not a doctor no clue what this means. I left, next morning almost passed out from vertigo, called Advantage asked to speak with Dr. Hartemink's nurse, left a voicemail no return call, called back 5 times no return. I ended up going to the ER. The ER gave me an over the counter medication called meclizine worked great. No one at advantage recommended this, why they could not charge me for this. I told a friend what was going on, she is also not a doctor and she said she had the same thing and gave me the number of her physical therapist, I was desperate made the appointment. After 3 therapy sessions I was cured, cost me 60.00. I would like to think an EAR DOCTOR would know this! Advantage ended up costing me thousands of dollars for an MRI that showed nothing a trip to the ER and nothing and Advantage still wants their money for the hearing test, I told them I did not need. This ENT could have sent me to a PT that specialized in BPPV, correcting the crystals and saved me so much pain, discomfort and money. Awful experience. 1 run of antibiotics, sinus surgery, 2 more runs of antibiotics and I'm still dealing with the primary issues I went in for and have had a present infection from day one till now (120+ days)... Their staff are absolutely unhelpful, requesting to see another doctor in the office due to my doctor being out for 2+ weeks results in "sorry we can't do that, stick it out pal". Never mind the fact my primary doctor had a last minute emergency the day prior to my surgery (6/5/20), and I had to have the surgery performed by another doctor in the office. Then there's the Doctors assistant that wore a mask falling from her face while literally sniffling every 15 seconds to avoid nasal drips for my entire pre-visit check in, no I am not concerned she had covid, but whatever she did have DOES concern me.... Oh and their website mentioned tinnitus treatments? Hm, weird, they had an audiologist check my hearing, confirm loss in the 8000 hz range I initially stated my tinnitus range was in...and not a peep more proceeding that... No second CT scan to confirm surgery was effective, that's not science or medicine, its hogwash. read more

Today I tried to make an appointment with this office. I have been a patient for over 10 years and have a history with them and was hoping not to reinvent the wheel with a new doctor. Recently, I have been suffering from ear infections and am heading out of town within 2 weeks. My PCP recommended I see a ENT before I fly. I explained this to the receptionist and, once again, received the "we are 3 weeks out" for an appointment. This does me no good. If I fly with an ear infection I risk rupturing my eardrum. After the rudeness in trying to make an appointment for my husband a few month ago and now this, I am done. I will be looking for a new ENT. read more

I was referred to this business by my primary care doctor. I am having problems with my throat - my throat feels like it is constricted and I can't clear the phlegm so I feel like I am going to choke. The Dr ordered a CT scan of my throat. I gave the P. A. the location where I wanted the procedure done which seemed easy enough. I started getting calls from a center other than the one I requested so I called and reminded them of my request. I was told that they would call and make the request. The next day I called the center that I requested, they had no record. I called back to the Drs office and reminded them again of my preference. Finally after 5 days and two phone calls the center I requested got the request and scheduled my appointment. The day of my procedure I was informed that the Drs office never got authorization from the insurance company. I made another call to the Drs office and requested a call from my Dr. No return call. I waited two days and requested the Dr return my call for a second time. No return call. I have made FIVE phone calls to this doctors office over three weeks (remember that I am having a hard time and am very uncomfortable). Any calls requesting a return call from the Dr are rerouted to a P.A. or to the office manager, but always refusing to connect me to my doctor. If one of the people I have spoken to had done what they said they would I would be satisfied, but they haven't done any follow up and they prevent me from speaking to the doctor to inform him that the office staff is not doing their jobs. As a patient I should not have to make so many calls to get a procedure scheduled, I should not be left to suffer and I should not be denied access to my doctor by the office staff. If this turns out to be something very serious I think that this business needs to be held accountable. At the least they need to be reported to the state medical board. I advise that anyone using this business or being referred to this business use EXTREME CAUTION. Better still would be to avoid using this business if at all possible. Sorry for the long post, but I felt that all of this information was important to the reason I have advised against using this business. read more
