Compassionate and thorough vet who really cares about our beloved pets Maggie and Lucas. Recommend 100%.

Dr Gerard is a great vet. Office staff is lacking in qty and people skills. Hours change often and are not consistent.

Gerard is seriously the best veterinarian I have ever taken one of my animals to.

This is not a good place for your family. I posted the following review on Google and Guinard…read moreAnimal promptly responded. I appreciate their timely response and bare no malice towards these individuals. As such, you will see that I am also posting their response. They have a very difficult job to perform. However, I assure you that I have no reason to be dishonest and was indeed a client. I have vivid memories of the wooden sliding doors (with gaps between the door and floor). I also recall sitting near the glass door (facing Guinard) so that I could easily step outside if a larger ( my baby is very small) dog entered the narrow waiting room. There was never much grass but it was enough to allow my baby a quick bathroom break. I stand by the following statement with the hope that Guinard Animal Clinic will make changes as they care for Sumter and its surrounding communities. "Please don't fall for anything this veterinarian or the employees say. Many errors will occur and instead of immediately addressing them with you they will dismiss or deny what you say. Even when I chose to leave (bill fully paid). They were reluctant to give me my dogs records. My motivation for writing this review is that I spoke to a friend last week (a dog trainer) who had the same experiences as I did. Let me add that other than repeatedly speaking to the people at Guinard Clinic I moved on and have never since shared my story. For those who choose to stay. I truly wish you the best." Response from the owner 18 hours ago "While e are sorry to hear you are unhappy with us I was unable to locate a record for you at this time at our facility. If a client requests records we will provide a printed copy or email copy which ever is easier for the client when requested; so we are unsure why you would imply that we would not provide yours pet's records. We work very hard and have dedicated professionals who have committed their careers to the veterinary industry not to the dog training industry which are two different career avenues. We wish you the best moving forward and hope you are able to find a veterinary facility to fill your veterinary needs." As a former client I only ask that your practice be more sensitive to the needs of your families.

Poor business practices and customer service…read more Care/treatment is nominal/satisfactory. They charge you to write scripts for medication you don't buy through them so that any money you save ordering those medications will be null. A scummy business practice for sure. Had I known this policy I would have not bothered having my wife ask for scripts but she ended up paying for it. A few weeks later when it came time to order the meds I selected to have Chewy call them, but they refuse to authorize the script over the phone and Chewy called me at 7pm Monday to tell me I had to mail in the script. I went to the clinic Tuesday afternoon to buy a single dose since I needed to give them to dogs today. I also asked to just be refunded for the scripts since we weren't really saving ourselves anything and now we have the headache of snail mailing scripts. I got a call back today from the 'head receptionist' who informs me that her manager (who should have had the professionalism to make a 2 minute phone call to speak with me directly) said they will not refund the scripts and furthermore they couldn't dispense more medication to us without us returning the printed paper scripts. So the fees were like $30 for the two scripts. We have already spent close to $1000 at this clinic and with our 6 pets likely would have ended up spending much more, which is fine we care about our pets and want them to have the car they need. However this 'policy' is treating us like criminals and scam artists. Maybe some people scalp scripts for flea and tick meds... who knows but, these aren't horse tranquillizers or anything they are parasite prevention meds for 5lb dogs. When I raised this point that they would likely lose my business over this I was told that is my option and they don't really care. So good, cya later bye.

Unfortunately I can't leave zero stars, so here we are. Let…read moreme start with my appointment for my two dogs was at 1600 and we weren't seen until 1710. I understand that things get busy but this is a situation where professional communication makes such a difference in how your customers view your business. That seems to be the root issue here as there was zero professional communication during the visit. The vet came into the room with a very defensive attitude and I just assumed she was having an off day as other times my dogs and I have been there over the PAST FIVE YEARS we haven't had awful experiences. My first dog was seen and vaccinated no issue other than me feeling the entire time like the vet and her tech were inconvenienced for having to do their job. Again working with the public I get it and sometimes it is just like that. The issue is that the vet tech was holding my very large German Shepherd with her face right next to his. I know my shepherd and wasn't concorned about him being snippy or anything so I didn't say anything for him. My Golden however is very anxious and will sometimes give warning snips to tell you she's uncomfortable and needs you to back off. Knowing this I asked the vet tech not to put her face near my dogs face TO KEEP MY DOG SAFE. As a dog owner the absolute last thing I want to do is allow my dog to be put in a situation where she can be at risk. Dogs are like children and don't think before they act so as her owner I felt asking the vet tech to keep her face away from my dogs was reasonable and honestly common sense for anyone who works with animals. I expected more critical thinking in this situation and unfortunately it was lacking. Honest mistake on their part I'm sure but my job is to advocate and protect my dog. After I said please don't put your face near hers as she's my nervous girl they refused to administer any vaccines without a muzzle. Which I declined as there was no indication for a muzzle. Only proper safety precautions being taken. After this was said they started belittling me and being condescending asking if I understood liability and how it's policy for them to muzzle a dog who had previously bitten a human. Which again has NEVER happened. I was very overwhelmed at the unprofessional tones and lack of knowledge of basic animal safety that I stated that I would be more comfortable having my dog seen elsewhere and I would like to pay for what had been done and leave. I was then met with more condescension about how great other local vets in the area were and good luck. Also the vet kept claiming that she didn't know my dogs so she could only go off of what she could see. Mind you she preformed my dogs spay three years ago and we've been patients there, with vet records to prove it, for the past FIVE YEARS. The only saving grace for this wasted appointment was that the front desk concierge was lovely and very helpful while checking out. (Also of course Mr. Muffin and Tiggy) I would strongly urge that if you're looking for someone who genuinely cares about your animals that you look elsewhere as we will be. If you're worried about low cost their prices are very fair! Do with that what you will.
